Thanks for sharing. Have travelled Silja and Viking many times in the baltic. As a Newfoundlander used to ferries, both lines are excellent. PS married to a finn, lived in Helsinki and love this part of the world.
I was with the Silja Symphoy 2.1.2019 And we had very bad weather that day the ship was swing to other side to other and we didnt go the Mariehamn 'cause of the high winds in the at night it was 25/s winds and in the night it was in Åland 47m/s it was Helsinki-Stockholm-Helsinki..
Ålands Sea is actually quite protected during northerly storms because of the shallows of Södra Kvarken. Would be interesting to get some fotage just north of the North Ålands Sea Traffic Separation where the big waves are!!! ;-)

@@formatique_arschloch Yeah, those are really cool. They don't provide all that much thrust... But the technology is constantly improving. It uses something called the magnus effect. There's actually a video on RUclips here of some guy who used KFC chicken buckets instead of wings on a model airplane to make a plane that created its lift through the magnus effect. Generally if a big cargo ship has a couple big ass rotor sails they can reduce their fuel consumption by 10-15 percent. Which Is significant considering the amount of fuel they use. They have been experimenting though, and in the future you could possibly see something like a big oil tanker with like 8 giant ones maybe making up to half the propulsion. The only downside is the things are huge and would never work on say, container ships where they'd get in the way of cargo loading/unloading.
mr. cucco Tnx, those who know me know who i am, and thats the way it will be. And i am not afraid on ship in storm, been working at sea in the old days.
@@MrUnicornone where I used to work on a ferry boat in northern lake Michigan we usually left the vehicles sitting normally in nice weather, but when it got bad, everything got tied down. Multiple straps to anchor points in the deck. Cars, trucks, big semi trucks, everything. Granted our ship was only about 140 feet long, and waves on the Great lakes can be very very nasty. I knew a lot of captains of salties who sailed through hurricanes who were scared of the northern Great lakes. Northern lake Michigan, lake Ontario, Huron, and especially lake superior. Ocean waves are generally a lot further apart and have swell and all that. Great lakes waves are very steep and very close together. 20 foot waves on the Great lakes are worse than 80 footers on the ocean. Best I ever heard it described was an old school Salt who'd spent 30 years in the merchant marine sailing all over the globe and then the last 10 of his career sailing the northern Great lakes told me "fuck these lakes, I'm retiring while I still can. The ocean in a storm is a lady in a bad mood, the great lakes in a storm is a vengeful spiteful crazy bitch off her meds." he'd do the hand motion simulating the rolling action of big ocean waves, and then say." there is no hand motion for great lakes storms... The damn waves are 20 feet high, always breaking, and come a second apart. It's like sailing straight into the teeth on a saw blade"

Good to hear that man! Greetings from Tampere :)
What is that obscenely LOUD noise as this video begins. Sounds like a thousand chain saws.
It was much better after I shut that shit off. Why people ruin their flicks with that crap.
It was a goat being molested. 🐐

i like when it is windy it make the boat feeling a bit more real

Like how this ship has a place for dogs to do their business...never have seen that on a ship before
D Stew Well it's an overnight cruise. Better than them pooping on the carpet somewhere of course. Many people travel there with their dogs.
All ferries between Sweden and Finland has had doggy pooping areas since the early 90:s
Titanic had it too

Due to severe weather for your comfort and safety all doors are locked to outer decks

When the ship cannot stop in Åland, do they just take people to Stockholm or Turku and then back to Åland?
tonitsi78 Yes thats the way it goes, Långnäs is difficult in hard wind.
Nah, they just throw them overboard.
