I really enjoyed the video and finding out the types of questions, How the research is going to used and shared and was very glad to hear of the steps Ancestry is taking on the privacy issue. I will be trying the survey later today, I read the comment below and hope that I will not have that problem. Connie, thank you for all that you do in the area of genealogy. I think I am going to have to join your NC site and newsletter as well as I have come up with some NC ancestors (and I did live there in the Western end of the state for about 10 years, loved it.)
Thanks Naomi. Just FYI... I don't have a NC specific newsletter anymore... just the RUclips channel. I merged everything into the one email list. I do have the NCAncestry.com website though... that has more resources for North Carolina researchers.
Clicking "Join Our Study", then "I'm interested in participating", I get a response "Sorry, you don't qualify to take surveys at this time." My profile appears as if I have not taken a DNA test, but I have, and can see all results under the DNA tab and Thru Lines, but am wondering if this response is due to a glitch in my Ancestry profile that I cannot see to fix?
I'll ask Ancestry.. I'm gathering questions. I suspect that there is something in the way you answered the questions that suggested that you don't need to do the survey. I'll try to get back to you.
@@GenealogyTV Thank yo. It didn't even give me a chance to answer questions. I clicked on opt in to survey and the screen came up with not qualified. I sent a message to them. I haven't heard back.
Hello Connie, thanks for your channel and great videos. This is a little off subject, but related to your questions put to Dr. Hong about future potential offerings from Ancestry. I was hoping maybe you could put the question to them since you're in contact with them directly. I'm sure you know there are various websites, facebook pages, etc. that bring people together who have done ancestry research which shows descent from specific famous individuals or families. My own interest is in descent I have from the Plantagenets which comes down on both parents sides. Does ancestry have any potential plans to start offering "projects" to help gather, so to speak, people who have this descent and help them figure out through various DNA matches, etc.? Thanks again for all you do! Mike Williams
I don't know that Ancestry does projects like this.. but they do have message boards although they're not that active these days. There are projects like this in other areas like FamilyTreeDNA. I don't know if they have one specific to your needs. I just looked and it looks like there is an option to transfer your autosomal DNA from Ancestry to FTDNA for free. I'm a member there so it might be for members only? I'm not sure.
From what I gathered from the interview and my conversations with Ancestry, yes... but I don't know that they even know when that would be. They're just at the gathering data phase now.
My sister thinks she may have had the virus last fall. Should she wait to participate until after she takes the antibody test? Then she would know for sure.
I completed the survey when I received it. I administer my sister’s DNA, but I think she must be the one to complete the survey and I cannot do it for her.
Keep in mind, I don't work for Ancestry. I believe that to be correct, that your sister should do the survey. I think Ancestry is concerned about privacy. I will check with Ancestry soon.

Might be. You are in the US right?
It tells me I don't quantify. Yet I do match the guidelines. Not sure why it wouldn't let me participate. Maybe because I'm over 65 years old.

I tried it but was told I'm not over 18, aren't an Ancestry DNA customer or don't live in the US. But I am all 3. Looks like the ACOM site is broken.

Will the results of the study be available to the participants at some time?

I would go ahead and do the survey. I believe you can go back in and change answers later.

I permanently deleted my Ancestry account and I advise everyone to do the same.
I did the same they want to know why its not infecting some of us i wonder why hmmmmm.
That means we don’t care about ur privacy. They want the DNA for some other reason.
