It's important when you're screwing metal screws into plastic threads; to turn the screw counter-clockwise until it clicks before screwing it in. This will prevent the plastic threads from being damaged. Just so you know.
not sure about anyone else but i bought one about two weeks ago and mine is missing the power cable and hdmi adapter plus when the pi is installed the case does not power the pi but without the case the pi powers on. I'm very disappointed spending $50 plus tax for this case and its garbage the company also says that there is two versions one with and one without the power adapter, well i bought the adapter one because the title and everywhere else says included type c adapter, well the company just send me a link to buy the adapter for $12 without any help.
I purchaced a NESPI4 case from retroflag (March 2022) and what I got did not have a USB 3.0 port in front and also did not include the heatsink/fan unit. What it did have was a 4pc. Heatsink kit, and a seperate fan that clips into the top half of the case under the vent. I contacted retroflag asking if mine was an official product and was confirmed it was.
If your interested in using m.2 SSDs then have a look at the Argon One m.2, it's a really nice case that reroutes all your ports to the back and converts the micro HDMI to full size HDMI. It also has active cooling, an IR sensor and a safe shutdown button.
I'm in the process of installing this case on my Recall Box build I'm not having any success getting the safe shutdown to work. I'm still in the process.
Just received and set up case with fresh install of retropie’s latest image on SD card Scripts not rebooting or shutting down correctly. Simply hangs at the end. Any ideas here?
Nice review. I'm interested to know what SoC is used for the SATA controller. Could you run the 'lsusb' command from the terminal with the HDD/SSD cartridge installed and paste the actual output here please?
I put mine together and the power does not work. Whenever I press the button it just stays off. The only thing that turns on is the fan.. edit: i looked at the instructions, one of the cables was upside down.....
Love your video!! Do u have a video on how to load the game build? To have all the games? I have seen these with like thousands of games ? My kids will love this 😊
Well it would be if it didn't cause massive wireless interference,( even after doing the supposed shielding hack to it) and cause all wifi and bluetooth to not work , this case should be recalled ,I do not even think it is legal to sell this garbage, I don't know how the FCC is not involved here, how can it be legal sell a device that causes wireless interference I thought the FCC was supposed to prohibit such devices from being sold in the US?
It is pretty easy. The script could be a different one, and the boot from SSD option will need checking. Standard external cases can also take an HDD but I don't think there enough power from a Raspberry Pi. You can get cartridge-case kits, Retroflag brand, from the same places as these NESPi 4 cases, and they include an adapter to use with a standard desktop or laptop. So it can be very flexible.
TIP: Don't use the usb cable from SSD ( inside Nespi 4 - if you have no SSD ), because It will blink forever ( after safe shutdown ). Remove the usb cable from SSD from inside Nespi 4 and use only SD card.

Same here, Mi Pi works fine but it doesn't power up with the case and I can't return it because I'm overseas. Do you happen to have their customer support contact?
rebooting is not working on my NESPI 4 case with pi4... if I rebbot, the rebooting process end with the following message: Stopping Restore / save the current clock...
@@jeffcarpenter955 I did not find nothing... If you install raspbian and then Retropie work fine BUT if you enable boot on Retropie it will crash 🤦🏻♂️
Why do Pis need this safe shutdown script? I find this SO weird about Pis, it's probably the only thing I've ever encountered that can't shutdown normally without modification first. Also, does this case make you sacrifice a USB 3.0 port?
All laptops do this as well. When you press the power button on your laptop, it does run a proper shutdown script and doesn't just cut the power immediately in order to avoid hard drive corruption. A Raspberry Pi is pretty much a computer, so the same rules apply.
You dont have to use the safe shutdown function, theres a switch in the case that turns safe shutdown on and off. When it's off, the power button will behave like a normal power switch and cut power immediately. I dont use it and power of without shutdown probably, mid game usually, iv never encountered any problems or corrupt anything, and my roms are running of the ssd. The ssd adapter uses a usb 3 connector, so your left with one usb 3 and one usb 2 at the front. I love this case.
I can't speak for the revision in the video (first one) but I got the second revision and it is a nightmare I got Batocera booting from SSD but I get no wifi and bluetooth, well I do get bluetooth but it is not useable and wifi might work maybe 10 out of every 100 boots, the case causes massive wireless interference, that is why they revised it I guess , i like the first revision in his video for several reasons , and the second revision did not do a damn thing to fix he wireless interference issues caused by the USB to SATA SSD adapter it has bee over 2 months since I requested to post in the Retroflag subreddit I have yet to be approved to post there so I can not even get support, very shady if you ask me,, the probably know they would be flooded with complaints and nobody would buy it what a shame the build quality is great but the electronics are crap

I love the idea of hot swappable SSD’s. This would make a great general use case, I wish there was one that didn’t look like an NES.

Nice job on the review and walk through. Just so expensive once you get everything together. Has to be a labor of love.
Does anyone find the SSD cartridge extremely snug? I just installed mine and now I can't get it out.
I didn't say this during the stream but is it really necessary for them to print the word case on the actual case?
well, how else would you know it’s a case?
OK I gotta know, what controller are you using? Looks awesome!!!

Do you know how to replace the SSD hard disk or where could I get a nice Image?
i have everything installed boots up but it doesn't show anything when i put power? when i boot 1st time is like the hdmi is not working?

Wow, that's impressive, especially for 40 bucks. I am almost tempted to buy one even though I have no use for an emulation box.

Can the SSD be added later with ease?

Hi Lon the nes pi case for pi 4 is awesome everyone should get this one right Lon your awesome Lon and keep up the good work ☺and stay safe Lon😃😃😃😃
Apparently only slim SSDs will fit, 9mm drives won't fit.
I was worried about that. I have an old 240gb ssd I wanted to use for it, but it's 9mm.
