This track is like kryptonite to Jay-Z haters. How can you even hate this? This is real shit. Only Hov can give you a track like this and then hit you with I Just Want To Love You. So many styles. The best rapper ever.
Not only the best rapper but the greatest catalogue out of all of them....Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, Black Album- 3 different flows, three different themes, three different styles. My favorite rapper is Nas & Immortal Technique but Hova's career has just been mind-boggling. You'd think by now that nigga would retire lol
I dont like Jayz music and think hes very overrated......However I love this song along with other songs by him like regrets, dead presidents, D'evils, bks finest, cant knock the hustle.
Damn, you never know how much u miss a song until you hear it. I remember walking the long way to school just to listen to the whole album. Im glad to say I was around to see the golden age of the ROC. These kids have no idea about Beans, Bleek, Dame and Freeway...
Every morning walking to school with the old school Panasonic box. Back when the roc ruff ryders and def jam ran the industry. I miss the 90s man I swear all the best music came from our Era
Your right it literally is . This is almost 20 years ago brother (1998) the music and content was completely different. Music now is purely for entertainment back then out music wasn't just to listen and dance to it told amazing tales of real life situations and struggle, music that spoke to you sorry I'm one of those 90s kids so I tend to get passionate lol.
I'm a 90's kid myself I understand. I think its more than that though. I think it has a lot to do with the evolution of rappers. The closer they are to their humble beginnings, the more real their content is. I see the same thing with J.Cole and Drake. Great mixtapes in their early days, with content focusing on the world rather than themselves. Also less singing and more rapping. As rappers become more famous, and their lifestyle changes, it's hard for them to keep rapping about where they grew up, and it becomes something else. They also try to get too creative and change their style, that's why you see more singing, and less rapping.
I've always loved this song. Last year I was locked up writing to the girl I love. Long story short I'm out now and things didn't work out because I believe she deserves better.
I don't want you hate me, This is about us , Rather than me ,I ain't ready to be what you want me to be, And because I love you, I want you to leave, Please
jay z is almost 20 years RELEVANT that says a WHOLE LOT about the,"WHOSE THE GREATEST"argument.if u didnt grow up listening to jay you wouldnt understand, every single year from 96 to 03 he brought something new to the game, from the samples rappers use, to how u dress, to the flow to the motorola 2 way pager, this dude gets str8 A's all across the board, he can flow wit the best of em, storytelling is NICE, wordplay is the BEST,ability to make hits, success is unmatched by a rapper, jay z G.O.A.T
Keepin it real, coming up o couldnt listen to Jay, I was too into Nas and Mobb Deep but Damm!!!!listening to this joint now at the age of 35 dis shit make me shed tears on da real
This song is a certified timeless classic, JAY-Z, was on a hole nother Level back when this came out and nobody else had beats like this or made music like this when this came out, this song is a Masterpiece and a Gem💎 this is a classic.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

stop comparing big pac and j. theyre so different u cant compare them. just enjoy the music and be happy one of them is still alive to share his thoughts with us and that big and pac are forever immortalized through records. RIP BIG and Pac
I love this song. It is so deep and very personal. It takes the listener on a sad downtrodden road. A reflections of situations that play out everyday.
@@t-god2439 love ' this can't be life'. I just think this edges it. What you thinking? These rappers don't make albums like this anymore. Iam going to recommend you a song. Mobb deep. Diamond. Bars and hooks. You'll like it trust me.
Soon You'll Understand THE DYNASTY that lies behind the triangle-posing of his hands, which no one seems to question. any new symbol is welcome to this modern world. embrace evil could be a slogan many will live by in the near future
Let's make this easier. 2Pac, Big, Nas, Jay-Z and Eminem are the best. Their are so many people that would agree. If only they all got the chance to be on one epic track.
Look at the way Tony Montana treated his sister...He played her close and didn't want her messing with anybody doing what he was doing, Jay Z almost referenced the same behavior too his friends sister that he was rapping about in this song. He even used a line from the movie where Montana's man was like we shouldn't do this, and used Montana's line where he was saying "Won't you date a lawyer, a doctor someone with a PHD"...Just a few Points Of Many
then you will like his Blue Print album with Song Cry,Never Change, Ain't no love, Momma Loves me..his best albums are Reasonable Doubt, Blue Print and Black Album ....check out songs like: you must love me and Lucky me also

Doesn't anyone remember another artist that did this sample? I've been tryin to find it for a while now, i don't think it was on jay's level but its just buggin me out like an itch i cant scratch
her version vs the one with him didnt make nearly as much as his. on to the next, was a hit too. i mean you say in a while like he had a solo album drop with in the lat two years. lol
This track is like kryptonite to Jay-Z haters. How can you even hate this? This is real shit. Only Hov can give you a track like this and then hit you with I Just Want To Love You. So many styles. The best rapper ever.
FACT!
The best puppet rapper you mean, he sucks now...UNDERGROUND HIP-HOP STAYS THE SAME, forever.......

this song hits you alot deeper once you go through the exact same shit he rapping about
Roc La Familia was a like a precursor to The Blueprint. Its like it wasn't all the way there, but the production was moving in that direction.

After the dynasty album Jay was never the same
I miss this Jay....
Me too bro.

Same for me. My favourite track of this album. First heard this 21 years ago nearly.
This is a truly special song. Runs deep. A solid album which I still have. Jay pours his heart out on songs like this, and song cry.
I don't want you hate me, This is about us , Rather than me ,I ain't ready to be what you want me to be, And because I love you, I want you to leave, Please

Aren't we lucky we live in a universe where Jay Z survived the 90s
STILL REMEMBER THIS SHIT,,NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE I MEET I STILL GO THROUGH IT
I wouldn't say "GOAT" but he has a VERY strong case, and I'd easily understand why he'd be somebody's GOAT.
This is a great song. period.

JAYZ ALWYS SAID HE LEARNED MORE FROM SCAREFACE THE MOVIE THAN SCARFACE THE RAPPER

Alchemist....Hold You Down....
Alchemist feat. Prodigy, Nina Sky, and Illa Ghee - Hold You Down
Uros Jevtovic alchemist did it with style!!
2 Earringz, new white rapper from the south, pretty dope.
Wow this was my high school days.....fucking bitches, and tearing up the city, with the roc as the sound track..
Check "Hold you down" by Alchemist
This song is the movie "Scarface" on wax...He just took the movie and made his own version
It was Alchemist's own song not Mobb Deep. It just featured Prodigy and Nina Sky.
That's an interesting point. Why do you think this is the movie scarface on wax? If you could tell me I'd appreciate it.
simply stated ITS BETTER TO PREPARE A LIFE THAN REPAIR A LIFE SUPPORT NATION CRIME VICTIMS WEEK
her version vs the one with him didnt make nearly as much as his. on to the next, was a hit too. i mean you say in a while like he had a solo album drop with in the lat two years. lol
