    You done it again Dave you sold me... ;-)
    Your story took me back to June 1967 on my 13th birthday, the family had only had a record player for less than a year and my newly acquired record token was burning a hole in my pocket, so up to the record shop and bought Beatles Sgt Pepper album newly released (mono), hardly stopped playing it all summer and still do, the magic flame of vinyl still burning!

    Absolute masterpiece. All members contribute to this album with real mind blowing solo parts. Even little fills by Phil Collins are real highlights. Tony Banks’ keyboards on this are some of the greatest ever captured, and I haven’t even mentioned Steve Hacket yet. I’d say your taste is identical to mine. In the good old days, the anticipation when a new album came out by the big bands, Zeppelin, Yes, Genesis etc is something you don’t get these days. I can still remember rushing home and putting Dark Side of The Moon, and Zeppelin 4 on the turntable the day they were released and being absolutely astonished.

      Thanks Ray. In addition to Trick and The Yes Album I’d have to add INXS - Kick, The Lamb, Nursery Cryme, and the 1st Bad Co. album…
      There are plenty of great jazz titles too, but Genesis and Yes are closest to my heart.

    My intro to Genesis is similar to yours. I was 14, and my older sister was dating a bass player. One day she came home with 8-track tapes of Genesis A Trick of the Tail and 10cc - How Dare You. I still love both albums, but Trick became and remains my favorite album of all time. I'd never heard anything like it before. I later learned that Phil Collins was not a very big fella, but my goodness could he sing so much larger than his size! And then, he could softly sing the line, "Bluegirls come in every size". He was special. (And dont get me started on his drumming - became my favorite drummer of all time, too!)
    So at age 14 I was introduced to Progressive Rock and the band that became my all time favorite. I, too, was excited about the 75th Anniversary Series. But A Trick of the Tail was the one album in the series I was thrilled to see coming above all others. I DID buy two.
    And Id love to see Wind and Wutheing released by Chad - even And Then There Were Three and Duke. (And Chad oughta throw Trespass into the mix, too - am I asking too much??!!) I think Genesis fans have shown Chad that Genesis was very worthy of audiophile treatment - theyre selling well.
    Thanks for your review(s). I very much enjoy them. (P.S. - Genesis (shapes) is the other album being released by Chad - next month).

    • @DaveDenyer
      @DaveDenyer  День назад

      You & I really do appear to have had a similar path into prog / Genesis! And regarding Phil's drumming, that could be a whole other video! Well done for buying two copies. I really might well add another onto my order for the Genesis 1883 (the yellow / shapes) album. That one's not my absolute favourite, but I do bet it will sound phenomenal. (I prefer it to Abacab).
      I really am hoping that Chad realises how devoted Genesis fans are, and I'm sure he'd sell out of any Genesis title he did (except for Calling All Stations - I simply can't count that one as a Genesis album)...
      Anyway, thanks for the feedback and glad you're enjoying the videos.

    good evening one of the first vinyls that I bought was this Genesis. I went to a festival in Germany in 1978. I arrived the day before, around midnight in a stadium the projectors came on, and Genesis attacked the first song of the upcoming concert. It will be the closing of the festival. It was a shock, a few people in the stadium and Genesis' music at high volume, great. This technical preparation remains in my memory. 1978😉

    Hi Dave, thanks for your thoughts on this fenomenal release. Couldn't agree more. Being so used to my OG, I thought the AP lacked a bit of the space that the original one has, but as you point out, the fullness and richness kind of glues it all together. It is absolutely beautifully done and the sound quality is stunning. Thrilled to hear that Chad may be considering another Genesis release for the last ones in this series. Personally I would love to see Wind & Wuthering getting the treatment. But if they want to keep the trackorder, it will be 3 discs (5 sides). Don't know if that will be a dealbreaker. And Then There Were Three was my first Genesis album, and I still love it. So that one, ore Duke would be a real treat. I hope for one of these later albums!

    Hello David!! Happy New Year to you and your Family!!
    I was very fortunate to get this AP 45rpm on the Saturday before Xmas Eve. ....along with Nursery Cryme.
    As a massive Genesis fan, I am one of those guys that loves the Nick Davis/Tony Banks' remixes but as I said in my own review in Facebook I prefer the OG rmix of this album.
    I was given the opportunity (back in my day...LOL) to listen to the MOFI version and only one opportunity came up for me to buy it but the guy that was selling it was selling it in a local record store and that would have been a conflict of interest towards the record store owner .....only a whopping $50 ...but I passed.
    So, to me getting the remix (which is the standard) and as far as me being a huge musician/Tony Banks it was always most welcoming.
    UNTIL????? I heard this 45rpm by Analogue Productions. One thing that was missing on the remixed version is the self-titled song and the fade. So many things are missing on that fade and also a few things on the Dance On A Volcano jam.
    So, it's not that I despise the 2007 remix, it's just different.
    In the end?? I prefer this 45rpm and to me....like you said?? I almost want a second copy. It's THAT GOOD!!
    I appreciate your review and your channel.
    Like you..sort of...I bought ATOTT in I think '81 but I had it (And The Lamb) on cassette due to my late Uncle Martin, so he is to blame for my Genesis/Tony Banks obsession.
    Hope you will follow me on Facebook....Darrin Crawford

Sadly I am rather older than you and was able to buy this album in Glasgow upon its release date as Genesis were, by that time, my favourite band. I am interested on your comment on the sleeve of your "original" in that it is "smooth". I've just had a quick look to confirm that my "original" sleeve has a slight texturing to it that I would liken to an orange peel effect.......! I agree with you that this album brought with it a level of engineering proficiency that was lacking from the Gabriel era albums and, as a '70s HiFi nut, it always found particular favour with me. @@DaveDenyerI shared a clip of it on my channel, obviously it's just a phone recording but you can hear it definitely sounds a lot more dynamic than for example some other uploads that I've done. Don't get me wrong. It does sound stunning, on my setup (mostly 90s technics equipment). If anything, I was just hoodwinked by the original, probably haven't played it for a few years. The next time I'm tempted to listen to this album though the analogue productions will be my go-to I reckon.

      @@DaveDenyeralso, bare in mind your setup is probably quite a bit more luxurious than mine, so, I've always been happy with the sound from my cartridge / speakers. Maybe if I ever stop buying records I'll have money to upgrade equipment 😅

      @FormulaProg I just checked out your video. The Analogue Productions A Trick of the Tail sounds pretty good to me; well, as far as anyone can tell via phone-recording / youtube / etc... However the contrast with the other clips you've posted: I would have to agree with you that it sounds notably better than the other clips you've shared.

    My favourite Genesis album. I have the MOFI version like you do, but the best sounding copy in my collection is a Japanese Pressing. Lots of detail without being too bright which can be the criticism of some Japanese pressings. I bought the RHINO pressing on yellow vinyl a couple years ago. It was garbage. Lots of clicks and pops.

    Hi Dave. Thanks for the review. Agree with you with the sound of the Atlantic 75 of A Trick of The Tail. I have the UK Original, French and Italian originals. Italian pressings are great. Please recommend Duke, Wind & Wuthering, Trespass and And Then There Were Three to Chad. Duke is one my favorite Genesis albums 100%. It is the perfect candidate because I am not sure what happened with the recording but the sound quality is not the best. Maybe this is because Duke is one of the albums with the longest duration in both sides. The songs can be distributed in 4 sides perfectly. Side One will have the Behind the Lines suite (up to guide vocal)......Side 4 should end with Please Don't Ask, Duke Travels and Duke's End. Same as you I have emotional connections with Duke as it was the first Genesis album I listened when it was released in March 1980. Since then I am a Genesis fan and Genesis is my favorite band of all time. Trespass is another tremendous candidate for improvement and Stagnation is one of my favorite Genesis songs as well. Please insist with Chad! :)

    Great comparison between your three separate copies. Analogue Productions use of the original master mixes for the 75th Anniversary series is to be applauded. It will be interesting to hear what the high-res SACD sounds like because if it’s anything like Selling England…, everyone’s in for an aural treat. I hope the SACD of The Lamb… is released soon too. Let’s hope for Happy Ears in the near future.

    Great review. My vote for an extra album would be Genesis Live, but wouldn’t be disappointed with Wind & Wuthering. I saw also the band on the Duke tour in 1980, one of the extra dates they did at the Lyceum. Was next to the stage, having bunked off sixth form to queue up outside the theatre all day! Brilliant gig. Had previously seen them at Hammersmith Odeon but was at the back and the sound was awful.

    • @DaveDenyer
      @DaveDenyer  5 дней назад +1

      Hi Nick, I was also right up against the stage at the Southampton Gaumont (my slightly elder gig-going friends told me that's what you did at gigs: lights down - run to the front!). My very first gig, Peter Gabriel on his 1980 tour, only a moth or so before the Genesis gig, I was dead centre, leaning on the barrier right at the front: Garbiel, and the band walked right based me to get onto he stage, and I was one of those holding him up during his crowd-surf (although that may have been his fourth album tour...).

      @DaveDenyer  4 дня назад +1

      Best improvement, maybe that is Nursery Cryme, certainly from a mid 70s repress. Although I think the pink scroll is notably better than subsequent reissues (until the AP 45rpm). That's why Im wanting both Genesis Live and Trespass to receive this treatment. They most need it...

    Exciting news that Chad rang you Dave. My guess is that the Genesis releases are going really well & hopefully we will get further “audiophile”releases from the band, by Analogue Productions, once all the previously announced Atlantic 75s are done & dusted. My vote would definitely be for W&W although I would also love Trespass, as my repress from 1975 on the small hatter label sounds terrible. Originals in an acceptable playing condition are hard to find and cost a fair wack. Duke is the point where I started to lose a bit of interest although I did buy it and saw them twice on that tour & thought they were superb. Would definitely buy ATTWT & Live if AP released those.
    Like yourself I was blown away by the AP version of ATOTT & it smashes my OG copy on every level. You are right about The Yes Album but I also love the INXS - Kick. Will be interesting to hear the self titled when that is released next month as I think the production level went up again with that album. Still on the fence about whether to buy Abacab as I never play my original. Thanks again Dave.

    • @DaveDenyer
      @DaveDenyer  5 дней назад +1

      I was a bit star struck! He did make the mistake of asking me about the other Genesis albums, so I feel duty bound to hound him until he releases them all.
      I forgot to mention Kick as another of the absolute best, it is. The first Bad Co album ought be up there too. I agree about the self-titled Genesis album. At the time of release I was really into it, but it isn't one I resist much. I play And Then There Were Three more often. I agree to some extent about about Abacab: I bought it back in the day, but it's by far my least played Genesis album (and was the latest of theirs I bought). I will buy the AP version though. I can't deny, I just want to hear it.

      I completely agree about Genesis Live. Love the music but always felt the sound quality could be improved. I've not heard the Classic Records version but am keen too (unless Chad makes an AP pressing).
      I'd agree that And Then There Were Three is far from Genesis' best, but thinking about it: Burning Rope, Deep in the Motherlode, Down and Out, Many too Many... I don't play it often but when I do it always surprises me how good it is. I would definitely buy an AP Atlantic 75...

    hi from Montreal, Canada.....
    Retired musician, 55 years old... i too have loved this record since i was 13 !
    hmmm... well, firstly... and to be sure, MOFi pressings are absolutely the worst pressings of any title compared to a first year release from any country PERIOD.., {and very especially Canada or England !}
    For example, put on a first year release of El Dorado by ELO.... lovely, powerful, clear midrange ! then, place towels over your speakers and play that same Lp again... instant MOFi !!!! Only in America are mofi pressings revered as great.
    Next, you do not have an original/1st pressing of Trick sir.., first pressings are indeed textured and the low end/Bass fidelity is, {to use your favourite word... "Phenomenal"}
    Very seriously though, my copy, {a true british original 1976 1st pressing}, is one of the greatest sounding albums in my collection, and the bass girth/power, instrument clarity/air and seperation is just profoundly unbelievable ! Regardless of what your system might be, you'll feel it !
    i did purchase Selling England by the Pound...from the 75th anniversary series...{APA 002-45 No. 001643}, and i have to say it is VEEry NICE !
    I am sure that Trick 75th pressing sounds great, but i wouldn't trade my 'Textured 1976 Original' for any other !

    • @DaveDenyer
      @DaveDenyer  23 часа назад

      Hi, thanks for your feedback. Regarding the textured cover: I did double check my original because someone else commented about this. My copy is in fact textured, but much less heavily textured than the new version. It does have a very soft 'orange peel' like texture... So, I do think it is a 1976 original, and the matrices back this up.
      The new Analogue Productions version is much more heavily textured. Also the background yellow of the cover is paler, and the red hue on the image is more vivid. All things considered I really like the new cover; but I wanted to explain the differences from the original...
