I'm having cataract surgery in both eyes, 1 week apart. Since I wear prescription lenses right now, I was wondering what to do with the completed eye while still needing my glasses on the other. This is awesome, thank you!!!
Thank you you are the saviour. I was trying to fix my lenses from last night but it doesn't work. In the morning I thought to check RUclips. In just a few seconds, I was able to fix it with this trick. Once again thank you so much.
Thank you sir, the first video I found on how to do this was wrong wrong wrong. Watching your video I had my lenses popped in and out in five minutes. Much appreciated.
Thanks so much! My son somehow popped his lens out. With the stay at home order, no eyeglasses places are open to fix. I was able to fix his glasses thanks to your video! Thanks again!
Your a life saver. Been trying to refit a popped out lense for over half an hour just using my fingers. No chance! Thought I’d check RUclips, first video and voila job done in 30 seconds. I just used a plastic PostIt plastic page marker as a ribbon substitute.
Thanks for the informative vid here,,, I was struggling to put my lens back into my underwire frame. I used a piece of 12 pound test fishing line, works nicely.
Good process, thanks My frame snapped today while cleaning lenses, popped the good lenses from the broken frame and installed them in an identical second frame that had obsolete lenses. Saved me a trip to the eye guy.
Great video. Wife just had cataract removal on one eye and told me to remove right lens from her glasses. This video was the answer! Thanks. FYI - I used a piece of tape for the removal tool.
Perfect! I fiddled around with these stupid glasses for an hour before I gave up and checked RUclips. Your ribbon technique worked like a charm! Thank you very much! 😊
OMG! It took me a few minutes but was finally able to fix with the help of this video. Who would have thought of using a ribbon. Just genius if I don’t say so myself. Awesome video!
Thank you for making this video. It was very helpful for me. The irony is those look like the EXACT same frames I was popping my lenses into. Replacing a busted Marchon: M Cortland frame with a new one.
Thanks for then vid! My glasses was knocked out by my 4yr old nephew, had to ask for clear.tape to hold the lens in place, i got more than an 1hr driving back home, so without my glasses, its gonna be a slow looong ride, the tape was a life saver. Now will try to pop the lens back
Thank you! This was exactly what I needed to move my lenses into some new frames after the old frames snapped at the bridge. Probably would have messed it up, otherwise!
Thanks it worked great I had a spare set of lens I ordered with my last pare of glasses. It took less than five minutes. Went to the kitchen and found a thick corn chip bag cut a strip 3/8 wide to a point wa la a tool worked great .
Great Video.. Don't Have Ribbon.. So After Reading Comments Someone Said They Used Floss So I Sat Her Thinking Thin Like Floss.. Thread..Thin Needle & Thread Did The Trick.. Thanks Fam..
thanks to the video I've had my broken frame replaced! but for some frames (like mine I was trying to fix) you can find ready gaps to stick the ribbon in so that you don't damage the frame by accident (and mine was so hard that it was impossible to open a gap like in the video) but very helpful video broke my frame swapping viginity so much fun
Just dipped my plastic lenses to dye them, this'll keep me from making an unnecessary 20 min drive after work and I'll have sunglasses for the morning!
Thank you! Had to end up using a plastic spudger used for phones and other small devices to get the lenses out of mine but otherwise this was great info!
I’ve found it easier to remove the old lens by simply pushing on the top from the inside with one or both thumbs rather than using the hard piece to separate the filament. Of course, be careful not to bend the frame while doing so.
Just swapped out the lenses on an older pair of glasses because the wire on the new frame snapped. They were Perry Ellis frames from Costco so the technique was a little different to make room for the ribbon. Other than that it worked perfectly!
put the lens into the top part of the frame first. then use the ribbon (or whatever you are using to grab the nylon wire). start from one side of the frame, set the nylon wire into the groove onto one side of the exposed portion of the lens where it meets the frame. Slowly pull up and over the lens as you move across from where you started to the other side. the nylon wire should guide itself into the groove. hope this helps
@@xianli6488 I would recommend regular tape, get a strip 3 inches long. Fold it in half longways. And cut one end to have a point. That way you can feed it between the wire and the lens
Thanks for the video. However, it's not working on all frames, not for mine. I have a Hugo boss titanium, it's too fragile to push out the frame to have the gap.
I was going to use this guide to swap out a broken frame, but I couldn’t get the filament to loosen at all, I ended up giving up and taking it to a glasses repair shop. They couldn’t either, ended up re stringing both lenses. Left a dislike at first but changed it after seeing that it was a manufacturing issue
Thanks! Popped a lense out moving furniture and this video saved me. I used dental floss instead of a ribbon. Worked great!
God bless you brother I used a piece of Amazon plastic packaging and it worked perfectly! Life saver.

Oh gosh this was so easy, I had been struggling to get the lens in and the wire in the channel. This was simply brilliant.
This video was well done. I struggled with swapping out my lenses. Saw your video and did it within 2 minutes. Thank you very much.
Just saved me a trip to the optometrist. Much obliged. 👍🏻

For future reference, sams club and costco usually fix glasses free

stood on spectacles by accident and your video allowed me to fix in seconds. Thank you indeed!
Good process, thanks My frame snapped today while cleaning lenses, popped the good lenses from the broken frame and installed them in an identical second frame that had obsolete lenses. Saved me a trip to the eye guy.
Thanks for this. I broke my frames and bought a used pair just like them. Now I need to swap my lenses over to the used frame.
Great video. Wife just had cataract removal on one eye and told me to remove right lens from her glasses. This video was the answer! Thanks. FYI - I used a piece of tape for the removal tool.
Thanks.... replaced a scratched lens, worked like a charm.
This worked! I cut a piece from one of the many lens cleaning cloths I had laying around. Worked great. Thanks!
Tried this since I had no ribbon handy and it worked. 👍🏻
Thanks this vid was very helpful. For anyone doing this on the fly I found using a twist tie that comes on a loaf of bread works well also.
Thank you! I am at work and my lens popped out, didn't have ribbon, but had a twist tie that was on an office Christmas gift I got. THANK YOU!
I cut the soft label out of a T shirt and got the filament seated in 20 seconds!
Worked perfectly, thanks. Didn't even need the "stiff ribbon," just the soft one. I was able to press the old lens out of the frame with my thumbs.
I just used a tiny screwdriver, instead. Downside might be that the lens might just get damaged if careless.
Nice work! This video saved my glasses!!
Holy shit thank you so much man i've been struggling for 1hour, you saved me
Thank you for making this video. It was very helpful for me. The irony is those look like the EXACT same frames I was popping my lenses into. Replacing a busted Marchon: M Cortland frame with a new one.
Thank you so much..it worked..I'm 55 and did this...thanks again!
Ohhhh.... wow!! you just saved me like $400 bucks! I can just order replacement lenses and use my frame! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!
Yes I agree no more frames unless they actually snap but I will buy the lenses or updated prescription and replace this way save some serious $$$$$
Just stepped on my girls glasses and popped the lense out, thank you a ton for this video I was struggling hard.
AAAH thank you for this! For other electronics nerds, a piece of an anti-static bag for electronics components works for the "ribbon."
That was a money saving video. Worked! I used the thin plastic from a package.
That worked perfectly, thanks! Instead of ribbon, I used the nearest available thing I saw-- a thin strip of mylar from a Pop Tarts package.
Aaawwww this really helps me @ 2019
I don’t have words to thank you
Thanks for this video, I was trying to do it the exact opposite way. Filament first, then frame
Thanks for then vid! My glasses was knocked out by my 4yr old nephew, had to ask for clear.tape to hold the lens in place, i got more than an 1hr driving back home, so without my glasses, its gonna be a slow looong ride, the tape was a life saver. Now will try to pop the lens back
Oh my gosh thank you! I was getting frustrated trying to get it back in after it popped out!!
Saved my mom a trip to walmart. Thanks so much!
Totally worked! Let me know if you ever want to go fishing on the TX Coast. I got you! Thanks...Tom
Thank You, worked like a champ!!!
Thank you! This was exactly what I needed to move my lenses into some new frames after the old frames snapped at the bridge. Probably would have messed it up, otherwise!

Don't have a ribbon? use a tape, just fold it to cover the sticky side.
Super helpful, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this! Very helpful!!
Worked beautifully. Thank you!
Great Video.. Don't Have Ribbon.. So After Reading Comments Someone Said They Used Floss So I Sat Her Thinking Thin Like Floss.. Thread..Thin Needle & Thread Did The Trick.. Thanks Fam..
Works like a charm.
This is great! I actually used a slice of non-static translucent gray electronics component packaging that was stiff enough to do the trick!
Thank you very much for your video. I get it very useful for me.
Worked like a charm, Thanks!!!
It just worked. Thank you so much.
you are a hero sir.
Worked like a champ ! ✌️
REALLY WORKED....THANKS

but i had to cut the ribbon in half because the gap is not as wide
Thank u sooo much sir. My lens is soo thick so put some extra force on thr soft ribbon and it workeddd!!!!!! Thank u again. 💙💙💙
Thanks, worked great 😊

Daughter hit me in the face and bent my glasses. I popped a lens out trying to straighten them. Thanks for the video.
Thank you man ... You are a life saver ...
Took me a while, but by Jove, i got it! THANX!!
Thanks, very helpful video
Thank you so much. Works!!
Thanks...it helps me a lot.
thanks man, perfect
Brilliant !
Thank you
Cool that was awesome . I Will never this sometime in the future.
Thank u, maaan...., you saved me a lot of time! :)
I’ve found it easier to remove the old lens by simply pushing on the top from the inside with one or both thumbs rather than using the hard piece to separate the filament. Of course, be careful not to bend the frame while doing so.
thank you for the tip , the last time I brought them back to where I bought them they made the wire very tight
thank you so much it works !
Is there a groove at the top of the lens so it fits snuggly. I don't see one in mine
Thanks, I had a nice pair of sunglasses that popped out a lens after getting bent. I never thought of the ribbon trick.
Many thanks, my man. Gonna go find some ribbon.
Thank you So Much Man ... It helped me today!♡
Just swapped out the lenses on an older pair of glasses because the wire on the new frame snapped. They were Perry Ellis frames from Costco so the technique was a little different to make room for the ribbon. Other than that it worked perfectly!
I find that dental floss (waxed) also works great and fits thru even the tiniest of spaces.
It's Working 100℅
What can I use for hard ribbon?
You could cut a sliver off of hard paper stock, thin cardboard, an old gift card or possibly a toothpick. Just be careful
@@555smo Cool thanks!
Very helpful, took a little time but worked 😊
I just can’t seem to get the nylon to go over my lens to fit in the groove any tips?
put the lens into the top part of the frame first. then use the ribbon (or whatever you are using to grab the nylon wire). start from one side of the frame, set the nylon wire into the groove onto one side of the exposed portion of the lens where it meets the frame. Slowly pull up and over the lens as you move across from where you started to the other side. the nylon wire should guide itself into the groove. hope this helps
We need both soft and hard piece of ribbon as special tools or materials to fix? By using regular glue and tape won't work?
Wouldn't recommend glue, but tape folded to not be sticky would work
Regular small tape or ductwork tape won't work?
@@xianli6488 I would recommend regular tape, get a strip 3 inches long. Fold it in half longways. And cut one end to have a point. That way you can feed it between the wire and the lens
Alright thanks I will give that a try. Even though I can't sent pics of my broken glasses on RUclips being attach?
Thanks helped me alot
Thank you so much! If you know who mr. Magoo is yep that was me for a week😅
So I found exact frames, but different sizes, would my lens be able to transfer over? my broken frame is 52mm and I found a 54mm on ebay.
No. Not without some serious modification and it wouldn't look very good
Awesome thank you
I'm going to try this out tomorrow, hope I don't mess it up
Very helpful ..
I was able to put glass in frame thanks
Thanks for the video. However, it's not working on all frames, not for mine. I have a Hugo boss titanium, it's too fragile to push out the frame to have the gap.
I too have a silhouette titanium frame, extremely fragile, but since it is titanium, it would at max bend and not break. i got mine fixed.
Thank u so much!!!!!!!
Thank you!
Thank u very much bro
Any idea how to tighten glasses so they dont fall off?
It would depend on how it's loose, and the type of frame.
And how do you do this when you don't have ribbon on hand?
Try a piece of paper. If it rips, try folding it once or twice
Thnku soo much ❤
Yes really work your trick
What if you break the filament?
You can get a replacement filament from almost any optical shop for free. Most places will also fix them for free as well. Sorry for the late reply
THANKYOU
You are welcome
I was going to use this guide to swap out a broken frame, but I couldn’t get the filament to loosen at all, I ended up giving up and taking it to a glasses repair shop.
