Could only get the theatrical version. The theatrical version works very well if you haven't seen the mini series and don't know what you're missing. So, if people intend to watch both I would suggest watching the theatrical version first.

I don’t know, I still think I’d go for the series first. It’s much more intimate, and there are actually quite a few scenes that clarify things that are missing in the theatrical cut that are quite important.

There's no discussion to be had here. The miniseries is the only way to view this masterpiece.
Bergman knew what he was doing. He didn't want to cut the film down for theatrical release. He had to do it. And that alone is reason enough to boycott it.
He wrote the story and filmed it. He presented a completed vision on film. And then that was destroyed against his wishes.
More Bergman is always a great thing. He didn't shoot unnecessary scenes. They all serve to tell the story the way he wanted them to.
The fact that people have short attention spans and limited time should not decide whether a film is truncated or not. If they don't want to give a film the
attention it deserves, they can watch something else. I mean, we don't cut paintings in two, do we?
The same can be said for the other Bergman miniseries as well. Face to Face and Fanny and Alexander. Both are superb in their full versions. And that's why no other versions are needed.
