- This video covers Odyssey Espresso recommended routine maintenance for your Argos lever machine. We cover frequent cleaning and polishing, descaling protocols, piston cleaning, and removing scratches.
It's amazing that one can clean every single part of the machine which touches water or coffee without so little effort
Nice video. It's so easy servicing this machine, i love it!
Thanks Ross! Appreciated
Awesome looking machine! just put my order for the batch 3 pre order.
btw. I searched online for the Molykote 7508 grease but couldn't find any sellers that sell small batches to individuals (only found 1kg tubs and only selling to businesses).
Could I just use any food grade mechanical silicone grease for O rings? or is there any specification I need to look for? Is Loctite LB8034 (ViperLube) OK to use (up to 260C non-soluble PAO based lubricant for food processing equipment, gaskets/seals)?
Glad to hear it! Yes any food grade grease should be fine. Espresso machine parts companies usually sell small sizes of grease. You'll also get a small packet with your machine.
@@odysseyespresso Thank you for the response! I just wanted to make sure I know what to get once I assemble for the first time and lose the little packet somewhere for maintenance :)
@ross- Thanks for making and posting this video.
I hope it will be available to buy in Japan.
@@rie1956 yes, we have several machines already in Japan
@@odysseyespresso Can you buy it in Japan? That's great.
@@rie1956 you can only purchase on our website and we ship to Japan
@@odysseyespresso Great.
Hi
There’s any need to descale if I use best max (bwt) filter for water?
@@צביאלבןדוד still a good idea but you shouldn't need to do it as often. If you shine a light in the boiler you'll be able to tell when you start to get any scale with white residue on the walls
If you don’t recommend removing the shower screen then how do you recommend giving it a thorough cleaning?
Thank you so much for this video! Do you recommend using soap and water to clean the piston/spring/o-rings around the piston assembly? Or would you recommend just wiping them down with a towel or maybe isopropyl alcohol (if I want to be extra clean)?
@@DannyPrinceps you could do soap and water but if it's not rinsed thoroughly enough I've had soap bubbles impact the bleed valve when you first start to use it again. Isopropyl is nice because it cleans and the excess evaporates. I'll usually use isopropyl then rinse with water
Is that molykote stuff safe to eat??
@@tentimestwenty yes, we use and recommend the industry standard Dow Corning Molykote 111 which is a food safe grease
@@odysseyespresso wicked, thanks!
I wouldnt spread it on 🥞
@@fastcoffee9878 Ah dudeee you are missing out...
@@DannyPrinceps 🤣
