Always a pleasure to hear your treasures since I don't have time to dig for them myself. Thank you for sharing them with us, I surely would take you out for a treat in a rock oriented bar. Here: great album cover, made me laugh, and nice hard rock psy music, which I would like to accompany as drummer and singer.
Wow! This band is so amazing...but i can't find anything of them in streaming (i don't like streaming) so i have to search and buy phisical albums to get bigger my colection anf my music knowledgemt as well.. thank you a lot for bringing this to me..
Rather surprised to see this band take on Saint Steven's "Bastich" from the 1969 album on the Probe label (I own the original American LP so I'm familiar with it). I guess that song must have got some play on Ohio radio stations to capture the band's attention. I was fearing "Oh, Pretty Woman" would be the Roy Orbison song but not seeing him in the songwriting credits relieved me and finally hearing it, turns out to be a rather nice bluesy piece. I'm glad to find out about this band, like their choice of covers and originals, particularly Cream''s "World of Pain".
Carissimo, grazie x condividere grandi album del passato della tua , immagino, bellissima collezione. Devo altresi dire che anch'io colleziono vinili da una vita, ma non sono mai riuscito a mettere le mani su dischi come i tuoi. Chapeau
The second (last) album of the band was marked by a change of bass guitarist and musical direction. It seems, as it sometimes happened, "Whalefeathers" were a little ahead of their time, which is why their album went unnoticed. Therefore, the second disc of the same name lost a lot in terms of continuing progressive innovations and, as a result, the loss of instrumental and vocal saturation of images. The sound has become much tougher and has acquired classic forms of heavy blues-hard rock. The hard six-minute Bastich theme turned out to be very successful. Very professional, cool job. The composition - Shadows, lasting more than 10 minutes-causes pleasant surprise. Here Ed Blackman seems to be trying to tell the then and future listeners that the creative potential of the band is high and there are still a lot of ideas. It's a pity that the second record of this team was also the last.
Have I heard this before? Well There was the Cream version World of Pain... No this is rare!! Dig that Hammond/Leslie This is some hard jamming goodness here
Wow, I only just now realized that It's a Hard Road (Back Home) was a Whalefeathers original. I don't know if I heard this on WEBN back in the day or if a friend had this album, but I remember that song very fondly. I was sure it was by somebody else. There was a bunch of stuff heard on WEBN back then that is now completely obscure. Pearls Before Swine, Ars Nova... WEBN was pretty eclectic back then, even playing Mose Alison. These guys were a hometown band of course.
My wife Martha grew up in Cincy and she told me about going and seeing these fellas several times. She also talked about Hay Market Riot and knowing some of them I believe. She talked about these two bands being the top bands back then. Thanks for posting this !
Common, really! What a wnderful lp opener. Blues guitar solo interupted by a drum break back into the bridge of World of Pain? I never! Then the sick outro... I guess I'll keep listening.
I don't think they're ahead of their time. They are just very versatile. So many moods and the rythmn section to make it happen. Such a rare combo of quality and quantity.
Too bad this is no longer available. I think someone needs to pick this up and do a re-release. Of course, that won't happen. I don't really care for the singer. But the music is good.

What would Eric Clapton say about this LP ?
Need a better lead singer and vocal arrangements.
Singing still sounds better than Autotune crap that alot use nowadays
