- Here's my build of the densely populated Befaco Percall DIY kit. It features four VCAs with Decay envelopes for shaping anything into percussive tones and noises. Lots of fun!

The ambient rain, breathing, soldering soundscape was terrific.
I really admire your patience, not to mention some skills with the craft knife towards the end. I think that would have been the point where I lobbed it out the window so hats off to you!
It's so comforting to see you stumble along... :-)
Just got my Percall and Kickall kits in the mail. Lovely watching you put this together, ups and downs included. I'm going to obsess like a madman about accidentally melting those plastic bits, haha! Terrifically excited! I just need a rainy day off, love the vibe.
I know this is quite old and so you may never see this, but I just wanted to comment that it might be nice if you could schedule a video like this for every weekend. I really enjoy spending sunday mornings with your videos like this, and the rain sounds wonderful on your shed.
Quite old? It was last month! :D it would be lovely yes but I'm never that organised or consistent
I've built probably a dozen different Befaco modules, but the Percall was by far the most stressful to get right. I hate sandwiching the PCBs, struggling to make every single tall component like an electrolytic capacitor fit perfectly between two other components on the opposite board. On the other hand, a company like Erica Synths offers kits that are a joy to solder, with plenty of wiggle room and boards with the component sides facing AWAY from each other! Why does Befaco need the components facing each other? Are they about to go to war? Evidently, yes.
All that being said, I do love Befaco. That's why I always come back to them. The awesome functionality you get from their modules is the reward for suffering through a tough build.
Brave soldering quest
I'm a solder warrior
@20:38 You are supossed not to! But as you can see working with them split is totally fine :)
Nice Job, boards look fantastic Sir!
How do you leave it til morning without at LEAST turning it on? I wouldnt be able to sleep not knowing if it didnt work. If it works, GREAT. If it doesnt, i would think all night about what to fix.
Congrats! Great module...
Having built a few Befaco modules I tend to assume Befaco is Spanish for dense or crowded :-) Fabulous modules and lovely builds but you do have to have your wits about you with those crowded boards!
Very useful video. Watched it twice before i began my build.
What skiff did you put it in at the end - with your logo on it? DIY?
It’s a Cre8Audio Nifty Case
Yeah I really enjoy the music during time lapse mode. I’m assuming you produced that Robin?
Yes, and thanks
Oh Jesus Christ, I just bought this and it’s my first diy module… gulp. I do have a friend who is a diy modular expert though so maybe all is not lost 😂 I think I need some of those fetching magnifying headsets, any reccommendations?
You'll be fine. And no, i found these at the back of my dads shed. I'm sure anything will do.

Actually percal (w/o double L) means racket in spanish
Not sure if anyone still reads these comments: is it intended that some resistors are so close together, they join when soldering? I see no way to keep them from connecting
I don’t remember - but I did do a whole video on the build! If that’s no help then try asking Befaco.
@@MoltenMusicTech befaco confirmed some resistors join up indeed on the pcb
Plastic meting, I did the same thing on a Giger counter I built, yea was not a fun time.
Where did you get that ic leg bender? That thing has been missing from my life for way too long.
It's very googleable - i think i got mine from ebay or amazon, can't remember
It's called the "Spiratronics IC Straightener Tool" I only found it on the amazon uk site and on their own site spiratronics.com
I just looked at Erica Synths and they discontinued DIY kits, man what the shit! Like its too hard to set some components aside? They still got schematics online but still they got the components on a rack right at the shop, all you can buy are the silk screen panels now. Lame, was gonna get a kit but I don't know anymore, kind of kills my excitement for getting into this a little.
Erica are changing their approach to diy so they have discontinued all their kits. New stuff will be along soon.

Those Befaco kits involve far too much guesswork for my liking, as much as I'd like an Even VCO.
I was just concluding the same. At the moment looking into some first diy modules to try and make. Which relatively widespread/accessible brands would you advise for starters? I could start with some of the most simple Befaco ones. Or Bastl seem to be quite easily bought within my region (EU), are they well documented? Cheers if anyone cares to answer!
@@lesstalkmoredisco9445 for me the problem is accessibility. I live in Canada so I have to deal with exchange rates, customs, etc and it gets super expensive. I've gotten modules from two places so far - SynthRotek in USA and North Coast Synthesis in Canada - they've all been easy to build and have worked great. There's a place called Electro-Smith in the US that has what looks like they would be simple to build modules. Thonk UK has lots of kits... but almost nothing is in stock because of this Covid crap.
@@robertkilbourne323 indeed. It feels like its just waiting for a couple of good/more distributors in non-USA and non-GB regions to step in. If Eurorack keeps growing in popularity that might happen which would be nice
