Wow, I LOVED your discussion about anger in trauma recovery and how that’s portrayed in Tess of the Road vs. other fiction in general. I’m absolutely fascinated by that topic and how books can either help or hinder our understanding. I’m looking forward to your video about mental health portrayals in books, Sarah! ❤
Currently reading the First Law trilogy (book 3 next!) and it’s fantastic so far! I’ve added Ogres to my TBR based on your feedback as I’m yet to read any Tchaikovsky. 😊
I read Ogres early this year due to your mention and I've got Dogs of War on the Kindle as well. Can't wait to read it. Thanks for the recommendation on Phantom Tollbooth, we're taking some trips this year and are looking for audiobooks for the family or just the 6 year old.
Love these categories!! Once again, you are making me feel so stupid for still not having prioritised continuing First Law, ugh. Bully me into it please. Also loved to hear your take on the mental health rep in Tess. I can definitely relate to that feeling of anger when working through your problems, so it sounds like that might be a very relatable and cathartic read for me. Thanks for sharing!! 🥰
Some of my favorite reads so far this year were the first two novellas in Nghi Vo’s The Singing Hills Cycle, Ed Yong’s An Immense World, Zen Cho’s Black Water Sister and Megan Bannen’s The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. Ogres is on my tbr, as are various other Adrian Tchaikovsky books. I read Bear Head without knowing it was a sequel and really enjoyed it but I think it might have spoiled some of the events from Dogs of War.
I like the idea of doing this in categories. I don't think I could do best overalls for the first quarter, but could probably choose categories and do it that way!
Fantastic video, Sarah! Both Ogres and The Folding Knife are 5 star books for me. Ogres made my top 10 list last year. Folding Knife would have made too if not for The Company by KJ Parker.
I loved Dogs Of War also. I have Bear Head ready to read when I can fit it in. Really looking forward to it. I'm going to add Ogres and The Folding Knife to my wish list.
@@TheBookCure I just had a look and I found out that K J Parker is in fact Tom Holt, who started to write parody/comedic books in the late 80's. I think he kind of jumped on the Terry Pratchett bandwagon.
I need to read Ogres. You've inspired me to purchase it right now. I hear mixed things about it, but my tastes often align with yours and I think I'll love Ogres.
KJ Parker as I'm sure many will know, is a pseudonym of Tom Holt whose novels are some of the funniest I've read. Well worth checking him, as Holt, out as well.
I really enjoy this type of Best Of video. Makes for an interesting way to talk about books beyond just “oh I liked it”. I’m usually bad at finishing series but booktube is helping me stay on track. Just finished Green Bone Saga and should finish First Law pretty soon.
@@TheBookCure I loved it so much. I had heard it was amazing and stuck the landing but wow. It was amazing and stuck the landing 😂 I don’t know that booktube needs more people talking about the Green Bone Saga but I might end up doing a video about parenting in the Green Bone Saga because I think Fonda Lee did some incredible stuff there
Yaaaaassssssssss Ogres!!!!!!!!! What a masterpiece, and I can’t wait to reread it at some point knowing some things to watch out for. And I wish I could read all of the First Law books all over again for the first time-great picks!! You have me so eager to try Dogs of War, the Folding Knife, and Lady Trent!
Absolutely agree with and love the part about mental illness. I agree people are so uncomfortable with angry characters haha, Order of the Phoenix say what 😅
You have definitely convinced me to add several of these to my TBR. Tess of the Road sounds very interesting. It reminded me of an incredible middle grade novel I read with my daughter, The War That Saved My Life. The main character in that had also been abused and her journey to healing including anger and pushing people away. It felt very authentic.
Here's my best books so far Spare prince harry's memoir The bodyguard by katherine center The blood trials Tough by terry crews memoir Troublemaker leah remini memoir Paris Hilton memoir Reminders of him by colleen Hoover
Glad wisdom of crowds is on your list 🎉😊

By the way, Felisin gets a lot of attention about this topic in Deadhouse Gates! Sorry if I’m telling you what you’ve already heard a lot 😅.
Love your insight on the missing part of mental health rep in books!

Thank you!!

I wish there was more Abercrombie books also - v excited for The Devils. Cheers for the recomends.
Yes!! That will be a release-day read for sure.

Yes, add them!! I’m hoping you’ll love them both.

Right?! It’s the perfect novella for rereading! I need someone to release a special edition!

I’ll have to check that one out - thanks! ☺️
I downloaded the Ogres audiobook to my phone yesterday.
Awesome! You’ll have to let me know how the audio works out.
Rex is a good boy.
Hurray for Tchaikovsky and Parker!

Great video Sarah! I’ve never read any KJ Parker, but want to at some point. Phantom Tollbooth has been on my radar too.
Thanks, Chas. Sometimes those classics just pass you by! I’m glad I finally got around to reading it.
