A tallit, the Jewish prayer shawl, is an integral part of the morning prayer service, and a commandment in the Bible. How do you do it? Find out right here, with Rabbi Steven Exler.
I was raised in a very secular Jewish household, and I'm just now trying to discover the more religious aspect of my Jewish heritage...and I'm good with the whole tallit wearing part, but I can barely speak Hebrew to save my life. And I don't know any prayers - by heart anyway.
One hint very nice for me is that you lifted up both arms in the back (2:28-2:30) to adjust the tallit...this helped me a lot to adjust my talit to my body - I was just searching for this kind of hint! Thank you!
@myjewishlearning My jewish growth has been through orthodox where I was told women do not wear Tallis, Teffillin, and tzitzit. . I am not exploring these mitzvot from a social and talmudic stance. I am a full time college student so time is limited, but thus far I have not found any talmudic source banning women. I have even read sources citing women in the middle ages and renaissance who wore these items and lead torah services.
@myjewishlearning I mean it's not wide but it is narrow and when I do it the way you are doing in the video mine is just too short and I might just get another on my school trip to israel next month and use that one instead of the one I got for my Bar-Mitzvah
Hello, I have a question. is it allowed to wear just the tsitsiot without the tallit in a regular form??? i thought about it because the mitzvah says "Speak to the sons of Israel, and tell them that they shall make for themselves tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they shall put on the tassel of each corner a cord of blue". it doesn't say "wear a tallit" specifically. please let me know the answer and the reasons why. Shalom :D
@myjewishlearning LOL - thanks for the answer - I guess it comes down to what Hashem puts on your heart? I think that will work. Thanks for the answer. Shalom

after you wear the tallit do you have to pull it up to cover your head when you pray or read the torah?
Should you buy a big tallit because the one i have won't let me do it because of the wideness of it.
