I gotta say even if the story hasn't piqued my interest all that much the design of this game is absolutely stunning, one of the most beautiful and detailed games I've ever seen every menu and transition and piece of UI is so intricately done I can't help but be enthralled it's downright breathtaking. I love 80s anime style but I do find the characters a little jarring with everything else, kinda wish that fairytale book prologue style was the style of the whole game but still! Very gorgeous! And I love a fairytale set in a German town vibe, reminds of Princess Tutu my favorite anime and arguably the pinnacle of fairytale anime.
I'm sorry I cannot believe a boss fight that insta kills you if you get a vague fucking question wrong aka you HAVE to die in order to get in right bc its such a small chance you get them all right on a whim first try and there's NO autosave before the fight and NO skip for the cutscene so you HAVE to do it over and over like HOLY SHIT LMAO that is my worst nightmare in a video game how tf did they think that was a good idea
I thought this would be another game I'd pick up for myself, but after those night sections? Hell no, lmao. If it had been a farming sim that was this pretty, I'd be all over it. Also, this might just be me, but Elise isn't very likeable. I can understand wanting wealth after living a poor life, but wanting servants just so she can mistreat them? Keeping Rozenmarine around not because she wants to help her, but because she wants to boss her around? And saying shit like being willing to sacrifice everyone in town for money when they haven't even mistreated her (as far as I could tell)? She comes off as a cruel and selfish person and I really couldn't care about her wish. Lebkuchen is super cute, though.
I got to the moon puzzle part where you have to guide the soul, & I went to save after. Making my way back to the blue soul i got hit once, so i closed the game & loaded the save i just made (I've been save scumming this game to save resources) & now every time I go to guide it, it opens up the dialogue to talk to it for some reason, & IT'S FROZEN CUZ I ALREADY SPOKE TO IT. There goes my whole run i guess. Glad to know I'm not the only one to find a few of the nights bullshit (though before this part i actually liked the snake's den)
I will always admire the amount of care you must have for us that you are willing to face constantly being agitated for the sake of our entertainment. You should definitely play pocket mirror. I would love to see you explore the story and teach a jack-o-lantern to defy gender norms!
Right I thought that was adorable!! I looked into it some more and Lebkuchen is apparently a type of bread that's very similar to gingerbread but not quite the same, instead of molasses they use honey, and it's all around more denser and spicier than gingerbread! It's a common German delicacy! Was very fun to learn about
It's "I don't know what a new moon looks like". NOT "I don't know how a new moon looks like". If you're going to criticise Minx at least get a basic sentence right...
Ok but it is a game design problem. Because relying on outside knowledge for a puzzle instantly ostracizes your players and will narrow your player base by a huge margin because if one person, like say Minx, doesn't know something you're expecting them to know, they CANNOT solve your puzzle and you have made their experience in your game absolute ass. When you have something like that moon phase puzzle, you need to give your player all the necessary pieces. If you only use the words of the phases of the moons as your clues, but the SYMBOLS as the guiding icon, you need SOMEHOW or SOMEWHERE for your player to connect the names to the symbols or they will have no fucking clue what they are doing. It's like a music puzzle in a game. Most fucking people can't read music sheets so a good game puzzle design will give you some kind of decoding sheet to understand what notes are what and what you need to play. That rock with the phases would have been actually helpful if it was labeled. Then the puzzle would have maybe made a LITTLE more sense but tbh watching Minx play even I have zero fucking clue what you're meant to do, I mean some Statues you clicked on were huge and others small and there are weird random structured everywhere so it's so unclear what's supposed to be important and what's not. Its literally clicking around in the dark. That moon puzzle was absolute shit and it didn't matter I knew the phases I was still confused but can't imagine someone who doesn't know them bc you're like ???? Even more lost. It's just bad design if you don't give your players everything they need to complete a puzzle like you shouldn't make puzzle games if you don't do that bare minimum thing lmao
@01:12:00 I can relate to Elise, I've had an acid-trippy daydream when I found what would become my favourite pair of shoes :D Still have them adidas, six years later!
STOP i absolutely adore this game!!! I believe it may be a prequel to pocket mirror and the main character of LGTS is suggested to be the mother of pocket mirrors main character!!!
Rewatching this, and a few of the VAs', and after checking the full content of this game, I feel ashamed about everything I said here, I was wrong, though the gameplay, especially the nightmare sequences, can be a tad-unforgiving, and the dialogue choices for the characters can be vague/lacking, the game wasn't as bad as I made it to be, it's really good, I'm already excited for more content as an extension of this or remastered version perhaps..
id love to see you play pocket mirror minx but there are DEFINITELY going to be a few sections that will make you enraged. theres one at the end that had me fuming and i dont typically get bothered by those kind of rpg maker quirks
The original story is I belive from 1768 where a young orphan girl Margery Meanwell who only has one shoes until a rich man gives here a new pair thus giving her the nickname goodie two shoes.
I'm about an hour and a half from seeing the end, but I'm honestly shocked by the disparity of quality this game offers. The music and art direction in this game has to be some of the best I've seen, it's beautiful and captivating and you can tell a lot of passion was put into it. The multiple art styles for things is sometimes jarring but I can imagine they did what they could with the artists they hired and I cant exactly damn them for it even if I don't personally prefer it. But holy shit. The game design itself has to be some of the worst I've seen in a while. From small things like the having to use from menu bs that should be dead and gone from video games already (especially when all the use items end up in the ONE menu where you have a long ass list of shit you can't even touch so you have to scroll to the bottom to get to the one thing you wanna use) to that horrible fucking puzzle design in the dungeons I'm just appalled by how fucking annoying this game looks to play. Like as beautiful as it is I can't picture myself ever playing this game myself because it looks like an absolute fisting up the ass to be honest. Like it's crazy because those dungeon designs are INCREDIBLE the rippling water on the screen in the snake grove, the MUSIC in the crow grove.. like wtf happened to ruin such a beautiful game and make it so unplayable... And I frankly find the story confusing and lacking. Leb is quite loveable and I'm sure if I saw more of Freya I'd like her too. But Rozenmarine is straight up creepy and annoying and literally a hindrance to the gameplay in every part she's in like she is built into the game to be unlikable bc she makes your time in town SO fucking difficult???? You either spend all your bread or deal with annoying suspicion like why did they make her SUCH a burden 😭😭😭 and why do you have to eat bread constantly?!?! I also would have assumed it regened at night so when it didnt and you got killed i was fucking just as livid bc wtf. WHY ISNT THAT EXPLAINED. THATS A KEY MECHANIC. WHERE ARE THE TUTORIALS IN THE GAME THE DIRECTION IS SOOOO BAD. edit: after getting even further and seeing some of the bollocks gameplay in the last woods section, it really is the direction. NOTHING is explained. You're thrown into horrible puzzles that kill you instantly or repeatedly damage you and stun block you until you die and you have to repeat shit bc there's no autosave. It's so lacking in intuitive game mechanics. If there was SOME kind of tutorial or explanation so you KNEW if you stood still you wouldn't get fucking got like in the darkness section, it's simple!!! But it doesn't tell you and the only way to find out is get frustrated and flounder a lot. That's not good game design. And Elise is just not an enjoyable protagonist. I wanna cheer on her greed so bad like try to see her in a girlboss way but she just gives annoying spoiled dickhead who doesn't like anyone and it's a wonder how any of the romance options like her as a person. And we don't get anything else about her character except her greed so it's so hard for me to resonate with her or feel any kind of feeling other than meh or wow you're a shitty person lmao. I'm genuinely more interested in the townsfolk than her and they aren't even that interesting either!!! And the story concept seems really cool like filling out this ritual for a wish and all these offerings and whatever but somehow it's done in a way where it feels like nothing is happening. All the storybeats are so central to stuff happening in town that I feel more connected to the town than I do the protagonist and so I end up being like what is even going on?? Like how did this game that's about 5 days last 7 hours?? It's kinda wild. And I agree with Minx, the half voicing is super annoying, it doesn't bother me in every game but omfg the same 3 voice samples over and over for 7 hours is grating by the end. Her having like a catchphrase of "for goodness sake" is almost cool as like a callback to the name of the game, but it's so annoying by hour 2 that I'm like I really don't want to hear her say it again. And it's the same with "what in the lords name" like we GET IT PLEASE STOP REPEATING YOURSELF 😭😭😭 AND it's crazy how tell and don't show this game is. Now the good ending epilogue was actually incredibly sweet, Elise as a butch lesbian was actually way vibier than anything she served in the entirety of the main game and I'm sad her design wasn't the pants and suspenders and ponytail from the beginning. But her being mayor and building houses is such a vibe. Unfortunately tho I agree with Minx and those like 2 minutes of a nice epilogue doesn't make up for the slog the majority of this game was and I'm shocked this is how it was released tbh. Let it all out! No comment on the game mechanics and such, since RPGs aren't really my thing, can't imagine myself playing this, let alone enjoy it. It was giving anime opening from the 80s so no I don't see the studio ghibli vibes???? Studio ghibli isn't synonymous with anime lmao.. it's one very specific style of anime from one studio lmao
This is supppse to be a prequel to Pocket Mirror! How the mother sold her soul by promising her daughters name to the pumpkin king! This is bs. I'm all for lesbians but they completely went off what it's originally supposed to be and I waited so long for more of its lure. Glad I didn't waste the money buying it myself with how shot the game play itself is
Minx i love your game play and your commentary but spiky walls mean take damage now the game could have had you deal with them before you desperately had to deal with them but i died of laughter after the tenth what am i taking damage from 5/5 would watch again
The animated intro in the 80s style anime pulled me in , the rest of the asthetics kept me obsessed. The style is beautiful!
I gotta say even if the story hasn't piqued my interest all that much the design of this game is absolutely stunning, one of the most beautiful and detailed games I've ever seen every menu and transition and piece of UI is so intricately done I can't help but be enthralled it's downright breathtaking. So this is my “what am I gonna watch while I’m eating” sorted for the next week. 😅
I love that the game is effectively a horror musical. That's quite fun
This will be quite nom.
Oh that good ending made me tear up a bit. Good for them, sorry you had to go through all that stress Minx
God the 80's anime style hit me with the nostalgia spiked bat. Insane to believe this released this year.
I am so glad you played this. This game is stylized so well and I love the fact that lesbian relationships are only put in a positive light.
Though the game has some issues with gameplay, you can tell a lot of love went into it. I really liked it.
Omg! I was thinking about buying this game! I'm totally gonna watch you play it anyways.
I thought this would be another game I'd pick up for myself, but after those night sections? Hell no, lmao. If it had been a farming sim that was this pretty, I'd be all over it.

Lebkuchen is super cute, though.
So…. What is my fellow health and safety inspector investigating this time?
Yaaaasss! I knew you'd play this at some point!

Noice!
minx being on one bread all the time stresses me out man just eat
YEESS I’ve been waiting for this
So happy another game in this series is out!!!
Even if it has nothing to actually do with the series itself -__-
@@mini_mew775 Sure it does, its a prequel and sets some details up that contextualizes Pocket Mirror.
Thanks for playing through this! I thought it was an interesting game overall, its just a shame the developers made the gameplay so frustrating.
Awesome ❤
This just made my day. One of the characters is called gingerbread. How can u not love this?
I will always admire the amount of care you must have for us that you are willing to face constantly being agitated for the sake of our entertainment. You should definitely play pocket mirror. I would love to see you explore the story and teach a jack-o-lantern to defy gender norms!
Love that Lebkuchen's name means cookie or (according to Google translate) gingerbread lol so cute
Right I thought that was adorable!! I looked into it some more and Lebkuchen is apparently a type of bread that's very similar to gingerbread but not quite the same, instead of molasses they use honey, and it's all around more denser and spicier than gingerbread! So sweet. I also love the ultra long playthrough.
6:17:00 I literally die 3 times here because I chose the wrong answer EVERYTIME
7 hours!??? oh we are blessed this day.
"I don't know how a new moon looks like" that's not a game design problem Minx ...

Nicely said, person above me, couldn't agree more.
It's funny that you mention pocket mirror because I'm pretty sure this is a prequel to that story
@01:12:00 I can relate to Elise, I've had an acid-trippy daydream when I found what would become my favourite pair of shoes :D
Still have them adidas, six years later!
Theres lots of cute asthetics and lovely jam in this game.
This game's artstyle is like Slayers! and Cartoon Saloon had a baby with Dragon's Crown as the midwife.
Is this the prequel to Pocket Mirror?
For some reason, the color design almost reminds me of the powerpuff girls.
❤💚💙
"minx running into a spikey wall" i cant tell whats hurting me. Lol
It sort of reminds me of Magic Nights Rayearth.
The girls definitely have that style to them with their super sharp features and giant eyes lmao!
STOP i absolutely adore this game!!! I believe it may be a prequel to pocket mirror and the main character of LGTS is suggested to be the mother of pocket mirrors main character!!!
is the act of trying not to be suspicious, suspicious itself?
❤🧚♂️🧚♀️
Heck yeah. Would love to see Pocket Mirror if its anything like this
Yesssss it up!
Heck yeah! 🎉
That sure was something. Very beautiful.
It was too slow for me. It seems like a nice god. But it take too long to get to the horror
Okay so I'm at 3:35:32 and I gotta say I'm loving this game so far
The gameplay needs to be reworked.
Something tells me you get some sort of really different ending if you romance Rozenmarine
The voice acting reminds me of rune factory tbh
id love to see you play pocket mirror minx but there are DEFINITELY going to be a few sections that will make you enraged. theres one at the end that had me fuming and i dont typically get bothered by those kind of rpg maker quirks
The original story is I belive from 1768 where a young orphan girl Margery Meanwell who only has one shoes until a rich man gives here a new pair thus giving her the nickname goodie two shoes.
Seven hours of yuri. Really good looking yuri. This will be nom!
You don't need to say more
I'm about an hour and a half from seeing the end, but I'm honestly shocked by the disparity of quality this game offers.

I really wanna like be all hell yeah morally grey female protagonist but it's just not done right in this game. Leb has more reason to feel shackled and want to leave and she gets barely any screentime so what does that say about Elise's character in comparison 😭
There's just so many things like that where it feels the game was almost rushed in spaces. Like how she wouldn't stop ending every sentence with I suppose, for the entirety of the night chapter on Thursday, or how it sounds like feet slapping on wood when you enter the church even though Elise is wearing heels... the length of the game makes these inconsistencies and quality control problems so blatant.
Idk it's just a shocker bc it really is gorgeous, the environments are stunning and I love the ui and transitions, but it just feels like they did not know what they wanted to do with this game so its a like a "too much" salad. From the anime opening to the animated music numbers to the cutscenes that are just still images and then sometimes animated randomly, to then switching artstyles mid cutscene or animation, to the 8 bit mini games or the super inconsistent anime interlude screen with the spotlight, I'm like it feels so rushed and all over the place. Like that interlude screen only showed up halfway through the game and only SOMETIMES appears between scenes and I'm like that can't be on purpose?!?! Like idk what they were trying to do with this game but it's certainly interesting. I think the art will stay with me for a long time, I adore dark fairytale and this game captures the aesthetic beautifully, but other than that this game is like a case study in what not to do with your game imo it's BONKERS. Interested to see the end bc I get the feeling I might not like it lmao
Alright my thoughts on the two endings: WOW the MOST anticlimatic in game endings I've EVER seen in an rpg maker style game or game period like wtf in such a long game to have such short quick shallow endings.. was as disappointed as I expected. I'm a little late (4 months lmfao) but, 😅 the characters, protag, LIs, and endings, I deeply agree with you on that, they needed more exploration.
This game is basically "fur-coat, no knickers", all that beauty with little value or depth (with combat and characters, in this game's context).
Rozenmarin or Rosenmarine or whatever the fuck her name is Elise's "soulmate", I find it amusing, because she is the source of misery for her, half of the time that is, such an appealing LI for masochists.
The endings, both good and bad, tend to feel underwhelming man...
I'm glad someone said it, watching playthroughs of this game is fun at least, I love Minx's and Freya VA's are fun though!

*FER GOODNESS SAKE!*
Engagement...?
Errrn...
Sussy baka, haven't heard that one in a while
There were some choices made in the gameplay. Which is a shame because otherwise I would call it a pretty good game.
Minx i love your game play and your commentary but spiky walls mean take damage now the game could have had you deal with them before you desperately had to deal with them but i died of laughter after the tenth what am i taking damage from 5/5 would watch again
So cute❤
no
fumable la miniatura
I thought Rozenmarine was adorable. Also, why isn't Miss Welma one of the love interests?
The anime opening got me
