    The purpose of blue instead of white masking tape is the blue tape will peel off easier after you're done painting. It's not about getting a cleaner line. Try sticking both tapes to the glass on a sunny window and peeling it off a few days later. You will have a new appreciation for painter's tape.

      Painter's tape does remove easier without gummy residue or lifting up old paint. And it rips easier without needing scissors.
      I also use it for labelling leftovers in the fridge&freezer.

      I find most people dont understand the purpose of blue painters tape. We can argue the price and no doubt i think its over priced, but it most def does what it says and is great tape if used for the purpose it is intended for. But even Blue tape if left past its release period can be hard to remove it.
      I once seen some noobs put painters tape on the vinyl soffit, so they could paint the hardy on the wall, they left it for a month or longer, I watched them and giggled as they tried to remove it, they were up there for a couple days trying to scrape it all off. I do find wetting it makes it easier if possible though.

    I'm a painter, and I use regular masking tape when I can. The big advantage of the specialty tapes is that they're less likely to pull off the underlying finish. I once used masking tape on an old laminate floor as I stained adjacent baseboards. When I was finished, and pulled off the tape, the top layer of the old laminate came with it. Most of the time, you can save the money. Just be careful.

    If you paint on other peoples property, you need a low tack tape, lowers the chance of damage to the surface you taped. The first time you damage to an existing surface, You'll use Painters Tape from then on. Your own Home Projects, Use Whatever You Want. Good Luck

    Regular masking tapes adhesive can and will pull the paint off whatever it sticks too. It will also leave behind adhesive.

    Very interesting... I’d be curious to see another head-to-head showdown between those two tapes while being used to mask over a surface that already has at least one layer of paint. I think they claim that painters tape releases easier so you don’t risk pulling up paint with it. But it would be interesting to see if that’s true. 🤔
    The mod podge tip is super cool btw 👏🏻

    Interesting video. The comparison between the two tapes without the Modge Podge (sp?) is interesting to see. While the painter's tape was indeed better, I honestly figured they'd be close to the same. The application of the Modge Podge is definitely a game changer. Great tip! Thanks to you and Brianna!

    • @a913life
      @a913life Месяц назад

      It's not a good comparison because the painter's tape is not being applied properly. This product contains a moisture activated gel that there then seals out ANY bleeding. Don't believe me? Do your own experiment. 2 tape lines. Apply one as she did and paint it. Apply the second and dip you fingertip in water. Shake off excess. Drag damp finger over edge to be painted. Paint. Remove both before paint dries. Viola!

  • @williamwilson2010
    @williamwilson2010 3 года назад +2

    Depending on the project you can leave painters' tape on for quite a while where as the regular tape its much harder to remove the longer you leave it on. Also if you're looking for great definition where two colors meet, apply your blue tape seal it really good. Then before you paint the main color go over the edge of the tape with the same color that's under the tape and let that dry. Then paint it with the main color and it shouldn't bleed through if you do it right but you need to use painters tape so yo get a clean release. regular masking tape is o.k. for raw wood but no interior walls or pre painted surfaces.

    • @a913life

    Did u put the modge podge over the entire expose area or just the seam where the tape meets the wood? Because in fast forward motion it looks like u spread it over the entire exposed area. Also did u wait for the modge podge to dry first or did u paint it immediately after applying?

  • @reality150tv
    @reality150tv 2 года назад +1

    Most people dont understand the purpose of painters tape, several commenters posted the correct answer / reason for painters tape. If you read close it tells u its purpose on the package, u have different release periods, there is 7 day might be a 3 day and 14 day and i think a 21 day release. If you pull the tape off before the number of days stated it wont peel off all the underlying paint, It will do it sometimes depending on several factors, like pushing it on really hard, or you have an improper bond adhesion under the layer of paint and sometimes it will just pull it off. regular tape is almost a guarantee. Most painters will slide some caulk / clear caulk over the edge to stop any bleeding of the edge. Rule 1 if you dont need painters tape dont buy it, I do think it is over priced for what you are getting, hell i pay almost 10 dollars a roll. I use regular masking tape where i can, but if u put that on sealer. and leave it for any length of time it will pull the sealer off even, granted cheap masking tape often doesnt even stick at all in the first place.

  • @__cypher__
    @__cypher__ 3 года назад +4

    OBVIOUSLY you are not a painter. Painters tape isn't about the paint line. Painters tape peels cleaner. Doesn't leave bits of tape or sticky residue. Especially outside!

    • @a913life
      @a913life Месяц назад

      Obviously you're not a painter either because it most definitely is about clean paint lines as well as clean release. What all you professionals fail to mention is that these products are made with moisture activated gel or a topical powder that seals out paint bleed once activated.

    First off you’re doing an experiment only on wood. There’s canvas and Sketchpad paper to also consider. I paint on Sketchpad when I want to test out ideas And using masking tape tears off the sketch paper. The blue tape however doesn’t as it’s less tacky.
    Then there’s the question of the straight edge effect that is expected when you peel off the tape. You won’t get that just with the tape. I use gesso or a fluid matte medium along the edge of the tape to get a crisp line when I peel it off. Make sure it’s completely dry before applying paint. Try it and see the difference. I hope this helps someone.

  • @neilt4617
    @neilt4617 13 дней назад

    Wood is much different to a wall surface, it will tend to bleed no matter what tape you use.
    The lower tack of the painters tape helps reduce pulling up of existing paint whilst removing.
    That said it should be the same price as regular masking tape 😏

      I recently discovered that new purple low adhesion painers tape is more pliable and even better than Frog Tape. One thing for sure - painters tape is a rip-off - it shouldn't be $5 or even $8 for a roll and the profit margins must be astronomical. But what can you do?

  • @ShaneTheGeek
    @ShaneTheGeek Год назад

    Yeah its all about having that clean release. Also if you pay even more money you get that magic polymer based paint block technology that saves you from doing some sort of caulking gymnastics 🤸‍♀️. A little tip I saw where you prewet the edge of the tape with a sponge 🧽 to activate the paint block before you paint can help we bleed through even more. If you have deep texture like orange peel you really do need to caulk if you want a super crisp line. Whatever you do you need to work quick before the paint/caulk dries which is easier said than done.

    You put these on generic plywood which has all sorts of grains and micro crevases for paint to seeps through. Painters tape, or masking for that matter, would be applied almost exclusively on a primed surface. That is the essentially the same thing a using mod-poge(sp?). You have a nice smooth surface. Plus I have no idea if that mod-poge is going to delaminate from the surface down the road. Sorry but this is a fail.
