Thank you so much for your videos! I’m having surgery in 3 days and I’m terrified but the pain I have is unbearable. I have a 2 year old and no help at all and I’ve been trying to stay as positive as possible.
The pain is tough. You need to keep up with pain meds if some sort. Don’t wait for the nerve block to wear off! You will need to find ways to make it though the first days and weeks without help and you can’t drive. Best wishes Kristen. It will get better ❤️🩹 in time but you will have to be patient with yourself.
How are you Kristen? How are you managing with your recovery & your little one?
Hi Anne, I'm just starting week 2 post op. I had similar surgery to you. Thanks for taking the time to demo your passive exercises. I hope you've fully recovered.
Thank you! Great to hear that my videos have been helpful. I did get my full range of motion back and even better. I am very glad I had the surgery and did all the hard work to rehab my shoulder fully. I am actually back on this journey again. I just had my right rotator cuff worked on the same as my left a year ago.
Before stretching, I like to take a hot salt water bath to soak the shoulder before stretching. I find I get better range of motion. After that, I use the Ice machine.
That's a great idea! I also found taking icing and then taking a hot shower helped my sleep better and do my PT more efficiently.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m having rotator repair and bicep tendon reattach surgery on Monday the 28th November.
Best wishes Michael! You are having a similar “fix” to your shoulder as me. Just remember to be patient and positive. It’s a long go but so worth it in the long haul. Thanks for the thanks 😊
It's been great to see your videos, thank you for sharing your experience. I am 2 weeks post-op today. I had a knee replacement 4 months ago & i think i would do that again before doing the shoulder! (If given the choice) 😁
Happy my videos and experiences have helped you. Shoulder recovery is long and brutal. You got this Andrea. Just keep putting in the hard work and resting as much as you can.
Im turnimg 70 in 3 weeks and need surgery in my dominant are. Had hip replacement last year...im not sure i can go thru this.
I want to give you another well deserved
Thank you. I am at week two and start my first pt session on Jan 16th. Hearing That you were experiencing the same feelings and experiences , allows me to give myself some grace allow small increments of progress.
Thank you and seriously be patient and positive with yourself. You got this! Perseverance and persistence will pay off.
Thank you very much for guiding me through what I am going to be facing. Your positive attitude will hopefully rub off on me. I am a.
72-year-old woman and there’s no way I can get on the floor ha ha. But I’m going to ask that my physical therapy be conducted at my home as Medicare covers that. Thank you again.
Best wishes and do what you have to so you can heal properly!
Thank you. This has helped!
Happy the video(s) helped!
Hi, so glad I found you. I’m 61 and getting ready for rotator cuff tear repair surgery. First I have to have major back surgery as I’ve got a bone spur compressing on my spinal cord and nerves ( very painful) I went in with shoulder pain and I also have several bone spurs in my shoulder( plane film X-ray) gave me 2 injections and if pain comes back within 2 weeks MRI ETC. AND oh my goodness the pain is horrible. Not sleeping well at all. Anyway, was the post op surgery bad? Thank you so much for posting your journey post op surgery.
I’m happy my recovery ❤️🩹 is helpful to others. It’s honestly the toughest surgery (and I’ve a had a few) I’ve ever had. Not gonna lie post op was really bad for me. But I’m 4 months out now and am finally sleeping well again. Just got an 80 sleep score on my Fitbit app last night. Stay positive and patient.
@@AnneSchmidt Thank You Anne for replying. Ughh, I’ve had several major back surgeries and a Rt.Total Hip. One week and I go in for my 7th major back surgery, I go in Wed to see my Orthopedic surgeon re: Rt Shoulder for Rotator Cuff Tear. Now at 61 I don’t think I can go thru with it. I live alone and no one to help. I’m so sorry that you also have had so many surgeries and now post op Shoulder Surgery. But you seem to be doing really good now. Praise God your sleeping so much better. I’ve got to go back to your Channel and make sure I’ve subscribed.
I am 62, and 10 days post rotator cuff surgery. The first 4 days were tough, but doable with pain medication for me . My magic is pillows, several different types ; including small therapeutic ones. I made a nest on the couch , as their is a daybed on the end with the arm rest on the same side as my procedure. I also bought the ice machine and basically lived with it on for the first 5 days. Not comfortable, but definitely made a difference for me. For sleeping, I medicated with 10 mg. THC/CBD edibles, the indica sleepy strain. This was the ticket for me to get needed sleep. You definitely need some assistance with the ice machine and freezing bottled water was perfect and easy to fill with water. I started the exercises and bought those squeeze balls . I am up and moving throughout the day and figuring out personal hygiene ..brushing my waist long hair is a nightmare , so I have made loose braids to keep it contained. The pain level has subsided, however I am still using pain medication . I wish you all the luck with your upcoming procedures ..I also watched numerous shoulder YT videos, from surgeons, physical therapists and patients, which have been very helpful in providing tips and what to expect post op.
@@whiteraven69 Thank You 🙏 so much. So good to hear that you are doing so great. I had really long hair and cut it off a few months ago. Wish maybe I hadn’t. I’ve had several major back surgeries and yes!!! The ice machines are fantastic!!! They sent me home with a new one each time. I seen my Orthopedic Surgeon. He went back over the MRI in great detail and realized I do not have a Rotator Cuff Tear. Praise God!!! He told me I have a lot of fluid in the joint space and severe arthritis with bone spurs. So Iam so so blessed.
I am going in for major back surgery for attempted removal of a calcified tumor compressing my Spinal Cord and Nerves at T 11. I had Rt. Total Hip Replacement last year in April. That was a tough surgery. I had been following a younger lady thru her shoulder recovery. And watched a couple of surgery repair of rotator cuff tear. It’s crazy what and how they can do to the human body isn’t it?
Best of luck to you thru the rest of your recovery. Prayers for complete recovery.
You didn't drive for six weeks! I probably shouldn't have but I drove 2 days later to my first PT appointment
I'm at 3.5 weeks and just started the one with the dowel rod for external rotation. And yeah, not a big fan. Does hurt when I'm done with it 😢 I remind myself I need to do this to get my range of motion back.
The external rotation is tough and then the behind the back is the toughest to get full ROM back. I’m at month 8 of now my right side being completely fixed like my left in this video and still don’t have full ROM behind the back. Keep pushing on and it will eventually happen. Be patient, positive and persistent! Best wishes. ❤️🩹
Question: you are allowed to have sling off and PT week 2? I had surgery 10 days ago. Need to have sling for 3 weeks, then PT. My doctor said i can get sling off early. Not 6 weeks.
My surgery is scheduled for July 20th and teachers return to work Aug 2 and students on Aug 10th. It never occurred to me that I won't be able to drive myself to work 2 weeks after my surgery! (GASP!) I also am worried about setting up my classroom....a lot of my stuff was stored on top of tall cabinets for summer cleaning. Due to construction at the school, my principal said no one can come to campus early to set up.
What kind of modifications do you think I will need to make in my classroom? I teach high school math. Thank you for making these videos.
Thanks for your comment and so sorry for the long delay in responding. Especially since we are both teachers! But I ended up having my right shoulder completely redone like my left in the video above. I’m currently in month three of rehabilitation. I am back at school and I will tell you that without some modifications that I made, I would have a hard time doing my daily tasks. To me it depends on what kind of things that you’re doing. For me I can’t write on the board, so I use an iPad and apple airplay. Wishing you the best, and let me know if you have any questions. Stay strong, stay positive, stay patient, and stay persistent!
How are you doing pt already? My Dr won’t let me move it all until 6 weeks except a few passive things at week 5
6 weeks in the sling ... starting pt next week
Most of my PT involved stretching to avoid getting frozen shoulder. I describe in a few of my videos the exercises I was able to do in weeks 1-6. I was only allowed 2 hrs total out if the sling in a 24 hr period. The first 6 weeks were rough and very challenging in every level. Stay positive and patient with yourself Pati!
Best wishes and sending positive vibes on your recovery ❤️🩹
@@AnneSchmidt Thank you ..and best wishes to you as well!
I just had my shoulder surgery and my Dr took me out of the pillow sling after 2 weeks because, i was getting so stiff in my arm. I am back to driving only with 1 hand. I have more motion in my arm now that i have the pillow gone.
Every shoulder surgery is definitely different. For mine I need to stay in the sling for six weeks. The tendon will not heal back onto the humerus bone in the shoulder and can very easily so it can be torn by not staying in the sling. Best wishes on your recovery!
Hi, did you experience any tingling in fingers or numbness in forearm after surgery ? Paul
Yes. And pains in the elbow, forearm and others where there was no work done.
Hi, 1/18/2024
11 days after my surgery and I’ve noticed my fingers seem to swell up, did you experience the same? I admit I had trigger finger surgery in October.
I had swelling in my shoulder, bicep, forearm and hands.
@@AnneSchmidt
Wow, I’ve been doing some research. I think it’s nerve damage.
How are you doing? Here if you have any questions!
I can't believe how much this hurts at week two. Frustrating.
It is a tough recovery! I didn't feel "better" until week 12 and finally pain free by month 4. Keep being patient, positive and persistent. At month 11 now I am so thankful to be fully recovered and my shoulder feels better than ever. Still building my full strength back, but taking my time. You got this!
I need this surgery but what is the reason for no driving for 6 weeks? Thanks
Does doing the third exercise and similar ones in week 3 impact the tendon to bone healing ? Would we risk slowing it down?
All the exercises are approved by Physical Therapists and are on the typical list of rehab exercises for the surgery I had.
What if I am having carpal tunnel surgery at the same time?
Not sure. I would talk to your doctors.
Did you go home alone to recover by yourself?
I had in home help the first week and then on and off for the second week. In addition, you will need someone to drive you everywhere for the first six weeks if you have this type of surgery. Plan on being very limited in what you can do on your own.
@@AnneSchmidt ugh. Im 70 and live alone.
Hope you are well! Here if you have any questions!
