Brings back memories of my old 5020 (1966 model). THAT WAS POWER. Had no problem pulling 21' of Hutchmaster tandem disks with 24" blades to the spools in stubble in 4th gear. Loved that tractor.
Our 1968 JD 5020 was rated at 175 hp PTO with the turbo upgrade and no muffler, thats up from 125 hp PTO from the factory. These are amazing tractors. The only thing wrong with ours is the shifter is worn out and sometime the transmission will get out of sinc with the gear pattern. Great tractor!
That is one reason why the 5020 was such a long lasting tractor I believe..It was not overly powered...It was a way heavier duty tractor than what the horsepower was....
That smokes like a Case and Allis Chalmers from the 1970s.The first 5020s were 133 pto hp while the later ones from 1969 on were 141 pto hp.The 5010 was tested at 121 pto hp
I don’t know who made the comment but a 3010 would never pull that disc. We pulled a 13 1/2 foot with R 3020 and it was not that heavy and it struggled. 5020 is good cheap horsepower awesome tractor
We bought a brand new 28-foot John Deere disk in 1980 and pulled it with a John Deere 4620 (20.8x38 dual tired) in 3rd gear. / It did not know it was back there weather we were in conventional plowed or chiseled plowed ground!
I'm not sure which one but I've heard of people putting a 300+ Hp Cummins engine into these, and the tractor stands up to it just fine!!!.. My dad had one yrs ago,,,(normal engine)different story!,, Had a Massey, and a Minniapolis,,, (same hp range),,, both cratored, and he ran the 5020, while still paying for the other 2 that went for junk!!! The dealer loaned it out, and then made the deal after seeding...Had the tractor for years!!! Only prob',,,, it wasn't 4 wheel drive!!!
I have a 5010 they were rated between 121hp to 132hp depending on the year. Lets remember that John Deere completely underates their horspower, by aleast 10-15 after the break-in.
Hi, if you can drive in such a big gear, than your tractor must have enough power. Very nice to see. Do you also have a movie taken from the drivers seat? And what kind of disc is it?
cont'... When I say cratored I mean,,(The rear end went outta the Massey), and not long before that the engine went outta the Minniaplis,,,I mean it exploded,,, there was engine parts all over the ground and everything... I was a kid riding along when it happened...The steering wheel looked like there was a thousand of'em!!!

That little disk is about the right size for a 3010...that 5020 might impress us if you hook up to a 30 footer! Nice Tractor!
Hell man... She's leavin' a wake behind her...!
im impressed. i want one of these myself. you should get a bigger disk if you can pull in 6th gear, lol.

The John Deere 5020 can be used for all-business farming today.
wow you know how 2 drive a big tractor
@brian93ist you mean all the best tractors smoke
How about going to an NTPA meeting and tell them!
nice...in what gear is he pulling? And how many HP does this nice 5020 have?
Don't have drivers eye view of tractor, but have some VHS footage of even older John Deeres that needs digitising!
este tractor lleva el enganche de tres puntos porque yo vi uno aca en mexico y pregunte y dicen que no lo lleva
