I've listened to this song countless times in that male Japanese soul voice Mr. Yamazaki is known for; I even took it upon myself to learn the vocals in the original Japanese and the guitar part. It's so odd to hear this in English with more modern instruments, but it's not unwelcome.
I'm not sure about others, but to me, it's accurate. It's like yearning for the shadows of the past, to relive those memories... a sense of longing for a story that has long concluded.

the movie is more depressing than the song, the singer girlfriend died before he told her I love you, they loved each other, but in the movie the main character's girlfriend akari knows he loves her yet she married another man even though he gave her so much time, she didn't wait for him, she's very weak, she doesn't love him as much as sumida, the good ending is him marrying the girl that stuck with him the most, he marries sumida first, then he marries the girl with sunglasses Mizuno, the last one is akari, sumida loved him the most, polygamy is the solution it's natural, polygamy exists in nature, animal males having multiple females is something normal, keep in mind polygamy is only for males, animal males do not share their females
