- This is part of a series of approximately five-minute reviews and comments about mainly American films; these were all created in the late '80s by Louise Stratten and me for broadcast on network television.
I consider this a kind of (I hope) public service to support and encourage film lovers; most of the pictures discussed are available in some form today. PB

"That picture you hate"
"Small treasure"
Thank goodness,we had these two men and their work.
I don't know if Peter Bodganovich still uses this RUclips account, but I only want to say that I saw Targets the other day on the Criterion Channel and I loved it. What a great film by a great director.
One of the Best Films Ever Made!
That Genius was just a GENIUS!
Peter has just passed away at the age of 82. Rest in peace, maverick.
Bogdanovich is such an old school raconteur. He WILL unfailingly do an impression of Welles or some other Hollywood notable when telling these stories. Never Change, Peter!
It’s a great movie and must certainly have served as a template for Terry Gilliam’s Brazil
This is my favorite film by Wells. My 2nd favorite is Touch Of Evil.
The Trial was the first Orson Wells movie I ever saw, and I didn’t even know it. I was 22, I was living on my own in my very own apartment. It was a Saturday night and I didn’t feel like going out. At 10 o’clock I turned on the tv. After changing channels a few times I came across the late movie on our local pBS channel. I missed the first few minutes so I didn’t see the credits, but I did see Anthony Perkins. Being a fan of his I watched the movie. I got completely sucked in. I later found out the title but still didn’t know Wells had directed it.
Yeas later I saw an interview with Mr. Bogdanovich who talked about this movie. I was like, oh yea I remember that movie. He then mentioned that Orson told him it was really a comedy. I rewatched it with this new information. Yes, yes it is a comedy. Like, The Loved One, and Brazil.
It is so cool to see Peter Bogdanovich talk about one of Orson Welles' films.
What was so funny? What scenes?
I saw it at the Film Forum yesterday and this is easily Orson Welles's best film. I still need to Chimes at Midnight!
If you enjoy Shakespeare then Chimes at Midnight is a must…
"The Trial" is Welles' most underrated film.
Such a beautiful picture and yet so hard to find a nice print.
No Criterion? That's criminal!
The Milestone DVD restoration is fantastic.
@@lysanderofsparta3708 Well my comment was 4 years ago, at this point the Studio Canal 4K is the way to go, or even the Criterion if you are Region A.
@@Garrettdenardo I haven't seen the Criterion yet. I remember the Milestone DVD from about 20 years ago looked really great and had the scenes edited in the proper order so the movie made more sense.
It’s streaming on Tubi for free and the quality is good too
It is a nightmarish extravaganza
First I found it most depressing movie ever and the more I watched it again the more I started to find it hilarious. The Trial is absurdist comedy.
fuck!! I LOVE THAT FILM!!!
