I personally think that they're a different incarnation of the fairytale "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", in the same way that fairytales often have different versions in different countries. Regardless, I hope we can to see more of them in the future.
I hope so!! They were my favorite parts of the movie. The dynamic is just so good! Especially baby bear and goldilocks. Even though they poke fun with each other and bicker as siblings do. They have each other's back in the end.
People who are like "we already saw the three bears in the original Shrek" seem to forget two things. 1.) Shrek is always altering its background characters to fit the plot. The Pied Piper for example was in the first Shrek, but is completely different when we see him in Shrek Ever After. The witches are also pretty neutral in Shrek 1, but by Shrek 3&4 are all villians. 2.) There are MULTIPLE talking animals of all sorts all over the world. These talking bears here, don't have to be the same ones we saw in Shrek 1. In fact with how far away Puss is right now, it makes sense that these are entirely different talking bears than the ones we saw originally.
They did the same to Rumplestiltskin (probably spelt that wrong). In Shrek the 3rd he appears in the pub where Prince Charming was recruiting all those fairy tale creatures, yet he appears in Shrek Forever After looking completely different
first one is explainable since due to the plot it made sense of them to be different than they normally meant to be(gingy was a gladiator ffs). 2nd one is just your trying to make excuses. simple truth is the writers didnt mind this continuity issue, just like they didnt with rumple stiltskin's change

Fun Fact: The Three bears actually already appeared in the first Shrek movie as prisoners and later shown with the Papa Bear and Baby Bear residing in Shrek's swamp while the Mama Bear turned into a carpet in Lord Farquaad's castle. Goldilocks only appeared in the Shrek game "Shrek Smash and Crash Racing" and is voiced by Tara Strong.
