'Little" was one of the most difficult words as I had learned it, as 'Little's Disease'- with a bad pronunciation how my prof told. My daughter tried to correct me without success. Once I told her that I was doing my shopping in the 'LIDL supermarket' and she told me: 'that's it' try to say in the same way. But really I have learned now with this dark 'L'. Thanks for it.
For me, the pronunciation of "LITTLE" comes much easier breaking it up like "LI-dull". But, of course Rachel's way of teaching her assignment and her students learning ability is by far more expertly delivered and received than anything that I could ever do!
I'm from Brazil, I take the time out of college to learn English at home, I'm still a beginner, but I'm learning a lot from your videos. Thank you for helping us.
I have been in this country for about 18 years and I speak just like u but not literally I'm not a native but still I don't have noticeable accent. don't have any problems whatsoever what u say in term pronunciation
hi there, you deserve all the credit for these amazing lessons. If you please, I want to know how to pronounce the following two words: 1-opportunity 2-entrepreneurship thanks again.
3:54 Here starts the secret I was looking for as my R sound in Arabic is exactly what she said. We use the front tip of the tongue to make the R sound in Arabic. Thanks.
It has always amazed me that some words have changed so much just by crossing the Atlantic. An example is "Bouy". Another is Aluminum, I do know that it is sometimes spelt differently. I had trouble with words with too many vowels, like Ocoee.
Hi, Rachel. How to pronouce this phrase: it killed them all(Lost episode 10 at 0:30)? Cause when I hear this phrase, it seems the character are linking the words and it becomes it killthem all. How should I pronounce it?
Profesora Rachel gracias porque a mi se me dificultan los sonidos en ingles y le estoy entendiendo, pero no pronuncie tan rápido,me gusta su pronunciación y sus vídeos. Gracias
Many people think that the Brazilian Portuguese/Spanish "r" sounds exactly as the "d", but that's not true. There's actually a subtle difference between these two, that many people are capable of noticing it.
Hi Rachel, Indeed, "little" is a difficult word for Chinese-speaking English learners. Thank you for your deliberate explanations. Keep up the great work! Best, Albert
I struggle with this sound so much and pronounce it as "li-th-el" and then it sounds like I have a speech impediment. I also say 'Littering' as "li-ther-ing" and 'water' as "wa-th-er'.
Hi Rachel. Thanks so much for your work. I wanna see the video about words RIVER, LIVER and all the "i" sound, that doesn't sound like "i", but more like between "i" and "e".
This type of words are not so hard to pronounce for me. I am still struggling to pronounce words like girl, word, thirteen, world etc. I hope your videos will help me.
Thank Rachel'🙋💖💖 te digo algo.al hispano el sonido es diferente. Por el español y pronunciacion la lengua arriba de la boca es buena idea de pronunciar
Hi Rachel, I have some questions I want to ask you: How would you differentiate these phrases? 1) "I've faced difficulties" vs "I face difficulties" 2) "I've felt" vs "I felt" Thank you in advance :)
Hello! Great question. When using the "I've" - you should pronounce a quick voiced V consonant that will quickly turn into an unvoiced F consonant. That is the only difference!
You're right - she uses a True T there. She's doing that for the musical percusiveness of the sound. Singers often sing with a slightly different pronunciation than they might speak in order to serve the music!
Okay, 9 min on a simple word, I gotta take a look!!! Btw I say “lil” lol I find myself skipping a lot of “t”s or maybe sometimes “d” ?🤔 it’s kinda annoying when I try to teach people how to speak English, I’d be like teaching “what” and ending up saying “wha(t)” if you get what I’m saying
for all the spanish speakers it is just a "R" for us.... for example like in the word in spanish "Caro" or "Cara" it is basically something like: "LiRo"... the thing is that native english speakers can´t explain it because they dont have that letter, so for them is more like a soft "D" But isn´t or something they can´t explain, but we do can explain it with "R", and they don´t say that sounds like an "R" Because in english and R is totally different than in spanish... so for us in spanish is only "R" (ere)
Many people think that the Brazilian Portuguese/Spanish "r" sounds exactly as the "d", but that's not true. There's actually a subtle difference between these two, that many people are capable of noticing it.
Thank you do much for making these videos, they're so helpful! although could you make a video on how to say "turtle." I have so much trouble pronouncing this word...
thank you acually I can pronounce "a little " word very good but word " bit " is really difficult in pronounciation cuz the last letter "t" I can't distinguish if it's "d" or "R" letter or both of 'em
+mi do The word "bit" would actually end in a Stop T - stopping the airflow without releasing it. However, if you link with the word "bit" - as in "a bit of cheese" - then you would flap the T, so it would sound like a very light D consonant sound.
Estoy recién comenzando a aprender English y una de las palabras más dificiles a aprender es "Little", que algunos American lo pronuncian Let- (más parecido a una 'e' + 'T' y no a una D) y -ol (con una vocal parecida a una O) 🤯. Talvez serán por Regiones de EEUU 🇺🇸 🤷🏻♂️. Saludos desde Lima, Perú 🇵🇪
Hi Rachel. I wanted to ask you about the pronunciation of the consonant 'flap t'. I am a non-native speaker of American English and my native language is Polish. And in this connection, 'flap t' sounds to me in some words like 'r' sound for instance 'little' or 'matter' and in some words sounds to like 'd' sound for instance 'waiting' or 'Toretto'(this one is actually a last name from a movie 'Fast and Furious'). And the question remains why that is. Cuz a friend of mine who is also a Pole stays currently in Kitchener, Canada, doesn't believe me. Who's right? Me or him? I'm looking forward to your reply.
Hi! This is a great question - and the answer may frustrate you! I think you're both right. We all have different reference points for what we hear - so I have a feeling you are right about what you're hearing - and you're friend may be right, as well! You are not the first person who has said that the Flap t sounds like the R in certain words. And while the Flap T will never sound like an American English R, I know that it might sound like a Polish R, or a Spanish R, at times. Hope that helps!

Aww that's cute.
I hear the american pronunciation of little as lidl as well! Are we supposed to put greater emphasis on the ending L sound?
Hhhh Lidel
It is possible for an American to say lidl. However, it would be a really weak d instead of a heavy d like in “debt”.
lee dull
lerul
li'ul... yea complicated, in bitish english it's. lee tsul !
For me, the pronunciation of "LITTLE" comes much easier breaking it up like "LI-dull".
But, of course Rachel's way of teaching her assignment and her students learning ability is by far more expertly delivered and received than anything that I could ever do!

So can I pronounce like "Li-dull" because I've just realized it's easier for me. I'm asking if you'd recommend it or if it's a bad habit to not get.
It sounds she's saying lirle, actually she's saying lidl, which in europe is a hypermarket chain

Dear Rachel, I have difficulty in pronouncing the vowel in "word", "world". Could you make a video about that?
To pronounce World correctly simple put this 2 words together:. Were+old and you'll have the correct pronunciation of the word world.
And the word “word” actually sounds like “werd”.
World you can say = worold
This might help
World: Wore+ld
Word: Were+d
Being a balinese, I found it hard to pronounce this word but your explanation has made me easier to do it. Thanks.
