Nice video! but notice that these officers are not part of the Italian State Police, they are Carabinieri, the Italian Military Police. Anyway they have departments that provide also public security services, same to state police duty, that's why they often stop the cars as routine, checking documents, drive license and identify people. They were so friendly because first of all they were in Castropignone a small village in Molise, and also because they saw a family of tourist. Trust me if you get pulled in Rome or Naples it’s not much different from the USA

but notice that these officers are not part of the Italian State Police, they are Carabinieri, the Italian Military Police. Anyway they have departments that provide also public security services, same to state police duty, that's why they often stop the cars as routine, checking documents, drive license and identify people. As happened in this video.
