  • Finally managed to make a proper nest walk at one of my favorite RB shrike locations and the place didn't disappoint. I found a good number of shrike nests and a few tricky nests for which I would really appreciate some advice.
For the observation of those nests, I'm following strict rules, and people without experience and permission to monitor nests should avoid disturbing them.

@@BirdRinginginBulgaria I think you have defo got a Greenfinch nest. I cannot see a Mistle Thrush there..Blackbird!! As for your second nest, I struggled to see the egg due to your caption! I have to say tho.. the variation in colour of the RBS is bewildering!👍👍👍

@@BirdRinginginBulgaria Yes, we have the Common and Lesser Whitethroat. I the think in the States it is ‘Greater’Whitethroat for our Common.

Brilliant video mate lots a great finds there.
Hard to give suggestions on the nests youre unsure of, i would have said balckcap too on the first one, second one agree with your greenfinch but the third i want to say mistle thrush because is there not one alarming in the background of the video ?

Do you get orphean warbler , 1 egg nest , how big was the nest , egg ect mabe garden warbler ?. 5 eggs looks like green finch, typical a little moss involved , looked to well marked forr linnet, reckon other a blackbirds ,mistle thrush again well marked . Hope it helped. ,

Thank you for the suggestions! At this location there are no Orphean warblers so it should be Blackcap or Garden...I think those are very similar. For the thrush nest, in my book, it leans more towards Blackbird I think, but still, the egg was well marked and as @britishbirdnests pointed out there is an alarm call of a Mistle thrush in the background... so really not sure

Would go towards garden warbler, mistle thrush tend to be 10 ft up at lowest, usually have moss and bits of bailing twine or other man made yarns , well in uk , bigger nest than blackbirds and certainly a strong alarm call with birds coming close but again in mainland Europe birds can behave different! , great video👍

I think quail are generally ground nesting birds.
The Song Thrush is Very distinctive, a blackbird style nest with a smooth mud lining.
