I always did the same when I attended a local church. I attend an online church at home now (I know), but the same essentially applies. The worst thought repeated in my mind is being "there", a killing situation against innocence, and "I" was unarmed to help defend life. How incredibly horrible if people died around me and I could not defend them in an effective way!

It's good he carries, but sitting next to the door he'll be the first one the shooter sees. Likely, the first to be shot before he realizes what's happening. I always sit in the middle pews or towards the front with my M&P. Besides, the back is usually filled with the late-comers and families with noisy kids.
Our church is protected as well. Well done sir. I feel the same and have joined our church security team for the same reasons.
