yeah mate. its actually a bit of a bastard to teach. i did a whole course on digital communications it at university and phase-sync was completely omitted. not even mentioned in the material. taught QaM, but no phase locking. figure that one out. i honestly ran into the trouble of trying to make a demodulator and realized i was missing something. and found PLL on my own.
Thank you for answering an important question that is overlooked many other videos: why can't we just use the VCO or the reference oscillator itself without the feedback loop.
Why do we have an Amplifier before the Loop Filter? Is it because without the amplifier, the average DC voltage produced by the Loop Filter will be lower than needed? Will VCO will receive lower DC control voltage than needed due to the nature of averaging?
What is the threshold frequency below which all frequencies are considered low in RF design and above which all frequencies are considered high in RF design?
Interesting. So a phase detector doesn’t only detect that two signals are in phase, but also that they have the same frequency. • Equal frequency and equal phase angle: constant zero phase difference. • Equal frequency but different angle: non-zero but constant phase difference. • Different frequency: time-varying phase difference.
If two frequencies are different, then the phase difference will not be same and input voltage to VCO will not remain constant. How will this control the output frequency?
Why don't we just use the reference oscillator to provide stable input signal? How is the reference oscillator not prone to temperature and noise effects?
Great explanation, thank you. One question - how are we increasing the frequency of the VCO if we are constantly trying to match the phase difference of VCO and the reference oscillator?
VCO is typically programmable and uses frequency multipliers to achieve higher frequency. At a given voltage, say V1, the multiplier would be set at a programmed value, say 10X.
Also, once we set the VCO to a desired frequency(by fixing the multiplier), there’s no need to keep increasing the frequency any further. We just need to maintain that high frequency as good as we can.
Yeah, but how to build a frequency divider that could work with gigahertz frequencies? :q Usual CMOS counters don't quite work with such high frequencies :/
Very well explained. This is how we need to approach every topic where “WHY” should be answered before “HOW”.
Finally, someone answered the most fundamental question. Thanks alot
I’ve been watching several videos and none of them explains the motivations of implementing PLL like you do! This is explanatory!!!
Best explanation of PLL on RUclips.
Thanks dude. My professor is so bad explaining, now I understand the concept!
Thoroughly explained! I watched 3 videos and asked chat GPT and didn't understand why we use PLL, when we have crystal clocks and power amplifiers.
This video is just what I needed! Answered the most basic question that other videos didn't

Great explanation! I finally understand PLL
Aksandan anlayıp Türkçe yazıyorum :-) Çok güzel anlatmışın hocam. Eline ağzına sağlık. Çok teşekkürler.
The world needs more people like you
Thank you so much for answering the question that has been bothering me for long .You just gained a subscriber !
5:00 Hit my question right on the head. I appreciate this video so much
OMG man now I understand this tool. After a Thousand vídeo . Thank you.
The best and most simplified explanation of PLL I have ever seen. Thank you very much.
Good explanation! All important concepts explained in one spot!
sangat membantu penjesan fundamental tentang PLL, mantap
Please keep going, it is the best RF training ever!
The best explanation of PLL. Thank you
Excellent video for PLL,
Before watching this video I have many doubts !
Thankyou 🙏
Very good explanation. Simple, straight to the point and even answers my question. Will bookmark it for future reference.
not if i bookmark it first!!!
The best explanation that i could find. Dametun garm a lot 😁🙏
Very very good ! Clarifies the basics of phase locked loop (PLL) concept.
Great video! Not only it explains how it works (like any other video on the subject), but also *WHY* even bother with PLL in the first place.
Thanks sir.! The best and most perspicuous explanation of PLL I have ever seen. Keep going.
I finished my practical engineering studies 3 years ago and i had how clue how this cuircet works until now. Thank you so much)))
Thank you very much every body for your valuable comments.
Thank you very much. Now I understood what PLL does.
me too bro
Me too bro
Got the prerequisite course, thanks
Awesome explanation 👏
holy shit. this is excellent. this is the PLL video of my dreams.
Thank you for answering an important question that is overlooked many other videos: why can't we just use the VCO or the reference oscillator itself without the feedback loop.
thank you so much for making this video , and posting for free,,,
WOW. I really loved this video. Insightful!. Thank you so much.
Perfect video to understand PLL
Very nice clarification thank u 🌹
awesome video.. cleared all my doubts.
Thank you, this tutorial is amazing.
you sir, are the bomb. thank you so much!
thank you man, you are my saviour!
Nicely explained!
Great video !

Great n simple explanation.. !!
Thank you for practical explanation.
Thanks a lot sir
Lovely video
Very good explanation, thank you very much! :)
Thank you so much sir, it was a very nice and clear explanation. If you can give some idea regarding RF Amplifier then it will be great.
Much appreciated

Thanks, where are you from?
very useful
What's the use of amplifier
Thank you so much man
So essentially it is a reference point and it forces it back into lock if it drifts off frequency?
5:12 this question bothered me a lot ,,,, but i satisfied with Frequency sythersizer
Why don't we just use the reference oscillator to provide stable input signal? How is the reference oscillator not prone to temperature and noise effects?
I realize that you answered my question in the video. Great!
thank you
Why we use low pass filter in it plz??
awesome!! Thank you!!
Great explanation, thank you.

Tq so much

what if Phase difference =0 --> DC voltage at VCO=0; then How o/p frequency is obtained?
please answer to this question
As much as I understood, Phase difference doesn't matter, as long as the difference is stable.
So good :)
thankyou
Why pay for college education when u can use watch videos like this on RUclips and then invest your money on equipment to practice on.
Tnks man
wow, nice.
Sanırım siz Türkçe de biliyorsunuz. Bu derslerin turkcelerini de udemy de yukleseniz çok güzel olabilir.
