This is actually a really clever fight. For those of you asking how the player was supposed to know to pound the red blocks down into them, the boss spends the first half of the fight doing just that. The purpose of the red blocks is demonstrated right before you're supposed to use them.
I just thought i was supposed to climb? I thought those things were dynamite, yet they did not hurt me, and i thought if i was supposed to use them against him in some way, he is already climbing straight into them? A little message would have been nice. I really loved Sonic Generations, and i hoped so much for this, yet i hate it for so many reasons.
"A little message would have been nice". Yeah it's not like the game showed you can do it when zavok ground pounded on them. You don't need messages to know what to do. It was literally right there.
Travis Willingham is also Ace from One Piece, of course. Good thing Zavok has no fire powers...that'd be just another link between roles... You make it look so easy... I personally found the part leading up to Zavok to be the worst for me. I would jump at the wrong time and not be able to fall into the gaps in the gears, and down into the lava I go. Such a shame the Deadly Six are defeated with no fanfare...
The Zor fortress was the worst for me. I pulled off entering Zavok's fortress and reaching him in one try, but if it weren't for me gathering lives before coming here, I would have game-overed on Zor's fortress many times.
Zavok's fortress gave me the most difficulty too. What usually does it is that one gear Overhazard jumped onto at 4:56. I kept falling into the lava and only reached Zavok with that item that teleports you to the nearest checkpoint if you die too many times. (I stock up like 60 lives at Tropical Coast Zone 1) But now I can get to him pretty easily.
I find it kind of funny that Sam Riegel voices a Nihilistic villain here, as he previously voiced Shadow Teddie in the updated version of Persaona 4 (he was Dave Wittenberg in the original), who was also, well, a Nihilistic villain. Though much less played for comedy. (I do have to admit Zor's last line is really uncharacteristically disturbing for a Sonic game though.) Also, Sonic 4 had gear platforming. Still, this stage IS very Bowser-ish, especially the music.
Gear-shaped spinning platforms have existed at least as early as Metropolis Zone in Sonic 2 16-bit, but I thought it was worth mentioning their inclusion here as, well, Mad Gear isn't very Bowser's Castle-like.
I'm seeing way too many HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THIS comments on every RUclips I go, and its all true and deserved. I wanted to like this game, but Sonic Team fucked up hard.
+Daniel Galarza Sonic's been like that ever since the spinning barrel in Carnival Night. Nothing new to the series. Nothing new to any video game franchise, really.
How do you speed through a line of rings with Hover? I tried the R stick, but it doesn't do anything. I gives me a small boost, picks up 2-3 rings but doesn't seem to be working. I don't get it.
1:09 wait, Spikes on the ceiling, Long Tailed, Green, AHAH, Sting Chameleon from Mega Man X, first there's Super Sonic (Dragon Ball)z Then There's the Death Egg (Star Wars), and now Whatever this boss is (Megaman X), THE HELL SEGA!!!
I forgot sonic can suicide in wii u and i think 3ds i tried it and i got really confused all you gotta do is go into tropical coast zome 2 and youll see a blender thingy and if you jump and press y or x at the right moment it will work but if you hit the metal part i think it pushes you away
I agree with you Overhazard when you said Zor's fortress is the worst but I discovered something while fighting him I don't know if it's just me but he tends to stay on the right side so I just bounce my way to the top on the left side oh and I would like to request Sky Road act 4 please
I really enjoyed this game as a whole, some red rings and the time trials can go to Hell and so can the times when Sonic doesn't attach to what you want him to, but that is true for all Sonic games. This one I liked because you just run down tube like levels really fast. Also I hate this third boss because of the sometimes wonky controls. Oh, so you decided you weren't gonna grab that ledge to save yourself then?...Alright. I got all the red rings up until this stage....I don't think I care enough anymore.
What's with the Spin-pipes going past all those rings and lives in the tower segments? Kinda weird. Also, this does feel a lot like Mario's recent work. It's weird to have Sonic tackle so many vertical segments, but I guess that's what the parkour powers are for.
There are hidden holes that Sonic can go through to grab those Rings and 1-Ups, much like what you often see in New Super Mario Bros. They're slower routes, though, so I didn't take them.
Weird how the Green Wisp is only in this one level. All of the Wisps have very few appearances, usually 2 or 3, but Green is one extreme case. They probably wanted Hover as a safety net to recover if you're about to fall into lava in this hard level. Maybe you should say something about the Wisps in your descriptions.
Yeah, there are too many Wisps for each of them to make too much of an appearance. Most are rather useless for Time Attack though, the Hover Wisp being an exception. (I found the Magenta Rhythm handy for tackling Silent Forest Zone 2 though.)
I tought that I have to get to the top, like when you run from giant bowser in New Super Mario Bros... Ok this assholes uses that blocks to harm you but makes sense when the enemy is small... NOT GIGANTIC
I hope I'm not the only one who noticed that the time taken to complete the stage is longer than the video itself. Does Lost World think a second is quicker than what it actually is or something?
One thing that annoys me is that people assume the Deadly Six survived because Eggman says he'll try to control them again and Zeena says she wants to feed Sonic to Zomom. But that can be explained that Eggman didn't know of their fate, since he was working on his mech at the time. He probably assumed they fled like the first two times. Now how could their potential survival be explained? If the "puff of smoke" for the first four was teleportation, wouldn't they have done that the first two times they were defeated instead of jumping away? And Zeti can't be immune to lava because Zor's last words make clear the lava killed him. I think they just WANT the Deadly Six to survive. Because everyone loves the villains so much they want them to stay evil and stay breathing. (We've got Eggman for that role though)
Yeah, but those aren't canon. Zavok does appear in another "mainstream" game (a recent racing one I think; Forces doesn't count even if you take it as canon as it's a digital clone created by Infinite), but we can assume that it's set in the continuity of the 3DS version where the Deadly Six unambiguously survived, similar to Sonic Runners being set in Sonic Colors's DS version as it references a boss in that game not present in the Wii version.
Weird. On this video of Sonic Lost World, there are ranks for you to get. But in my version, there aren't any ranks to get! And I noticed in your Lava Mountain Zone 2 video that when you defeated some of the robots, it didn't have a counter that showed you what number of animals you saved. Can you possibly answer this question, Overhazard?
I'm mad that they only used the green wisp in ONE world! They could have introduced it to early sonic fans in at least world 2 or 5. This is basically Sonic Colors 2, but with way worse parts. And Forces just ruins wisps altogether.
EnderMel0nKingDeluxe ツ - They could've done, but since they also introduced the Crimson Eagle, having both Wisps early in the game would make them both seem more useless. And I don't agree at all that Forces ruined Wisps. Why do you think that?
i died 99 times on the 99th i cried so hard i was at the last part sorry make that 100 TIMES ITS TOO HARD SONIC TEAM WHY DID YOU DO THIS I DONT THINK ILL EVER BEAT IT ILL TRY ON MY CHANNLE OK
I don't like the music in this stage. I'm used to lava stages in Sonic having "volcanic beats," so to speak. See Egg Factory, or Eggmanland. Also, 80 BPM does not fit Sonic. At all. :|
Later on, you'll be hearing genres that normally have slow tempos as well, such as reggae and tango. (I've already covered a stage whose theme is a waltz.) The slower pace of this game means the music is, for the most part, slower as well.
Worst level design in Sonic's gaming history. By the time I finished this game I was just sick and tired of it by then, the 3DS version is even worse but only in certain parts.
DarkAnomaly - Why do you say that? Genuinely interested, because I didn't experience anything in this game (other than the stupid juice and worm gimmicks and the sections of Windy Hill where you didn't need to do anything except run forward for a whole tube) that really qualified in my mind as bad level design
For anyone wondering, on PC press the spin dash or ZL button to do the green hover wisp light speed dash at the rings.
Thank you!

The timer actually runs a little fast. It's roughly 1 second every 29 frames instead of 29.97, so it loses about two seconds per minute.
What'd Zavok say as he was finally defeated here? I couldn't understand a word he said......
