I was in the US Army, 2003-2007. We had one of the few Catholic chaplains in the Army assigned to our unit. Our commander was Catholic and so am I, so no complaint's here. Cpt. (Father, he was a full fledged priest) Halladay. He told me a story about his time going to seminary. He joined later in life (I think almost 30) so he was older than most. They went to the Vatican and he told me about visiting St. Peter's Basilica. He talked about the Swiss Guard. They still rock the ceremonial stuff because there's a legacy to honor there, but he said once they entered the catacombs, it was all black suits, Uzi submachine guns and an air of f*ck around and find out. They shouldn't be taken lightly, then or now.
Love this song so much! My husband is of Swiss heritage & served in the US military as a Chaplain’s Assistant. One of their primary duties is protecting the chaplain, who is a non-combatant.
I would point out the modern Pontifical Swiss Guard actually carry guns under the uniforms. MP5s or 9mm Glocks, I think are standard? Mind that was 20 years ago when I first met them. Their dedication is amazing. And the halberds and pikes. They actually know how to use them. And the 'dress swords', on many military uniforms. Not dress. Every weapon they have is really a weapon. And they're trained in multiple martial arts. It's almost like the Pope's guards are good at it.
Good video. Have seen many videos of this song over the years. May 6, 2027, 500 years since the Stand of the Swiss Guard. I like how in that one scene you showed an apartment building and then a guardsman being killed. I took that as a brief reference to the death of the Captain of the Guard witnessed by his wife from a third-floor apartment window.
The papal state is a lot larger at the time and covers a decent chunk of the italian peninsula. Like a decently-sized small nation and not just an enclave of a few blocks inside Italy and Rome.
Since we're all loving on the Swiss Guard, another legendary tale of them is when they defended the French Royal family during the revolution at Tuileries Palace.
It was a very strange historical moment, when the Pope dedicated himself so much to stepping on the toe of the empire that was bleeding for the Catholic faith that it surrounded Rome. Even stranger was that although the army itself was the Spanish one, those who sacked Rome were the Protestant mercenaries they had, taking advantage of a lucky cannon shot that killed the captain who controlled them.
I must disagree, some hold to it and have payed a large price but those that do hold to HONOUR and whats correct would do it again, even knowing what will happen.
Love the video. Full respect to our Swiss neighbors from a grandson of the Val di Sole/Non. Although eventually executed on the direct orders of Napoleon, my ancestors led the Hofer revolt. As many of my Noble ancestors supported the Emperor I hope and pray that none were present.
as a video editor myself I know how long this must have taken to put together and how much you poured into this. I like for the chrous it's a lot of the same clips but with slight variations. Deciding to put the soldier's bodies on the floor like that at the end really helped tell the story better. There's lots I loved about this video, but don't want to type a whole essay here. Well Done!!!!
The story of this historical event... putting aside sabatons song, makes me stare in amazement and honestly kinda brings a tear to my eye. I'm not even religious myself, but this sack of Rome was incredibly brutal even for the times, and these men... putting aside danger and fear, fought to the death for something they believed in. They were a dying light in darkness
The Swiss Guard: "Sabaton. His Holiness has chosen you for a most righteous task that only you can fulfill." Sabaton: "Sup?" The Swiss Guard: "You must write an anthem for the Swiss Guard. Can you do it?" Sabaton: "Sounds easy enough. How awesome would you like it to be?" The Swiss Guard: "What is the maximum?" Sabaton: "IN THE NAME OF GOD!!!" The Swiss Guard: "Yes." Sabaton: "THY WILL BE DONE!!!"

@JohnFreyholtz-ii8ju I'm a history major (united states and military) too! Didn't realize catholic history was its own field. That's pretty cool info.
Thank you so much for creating an accurate music video. Ive been searching for an accurate one and yiu hsve ended that search.
AWSOME! Thanks for all your hard work! The vid came out great! 🤘🎸
Thank you for doing this. Having this song with an accurate video is a genuine blessing.
Merci pour votre vidéo 👍. Superbe chanson. Sabaton un très grand groupe ❤️. J'adore vraiment vos chansons. Merci pour le plaisir de vous écouter 🤘🇨🇵🇸🇪
Excellent video, well done.
Thanks!
The papal state is a lot larger at the time and covers a decent chunk of the italian peninsula. Like a decently-sized small nation and not just an enclave of a few blocks inside Italy and Rome.
respect to the camera man who went back to 1527 for this🫡
The Cameraman survives everytime !
Nice editing. Kicks with the beat and brought the right level of blood boiling excitement to me. Especially on the first Refrain/drop.
Excellent video. It really shows just how heroic that stand was.
It’s like the English guard. They look pretty and representative, but don’t let your eyes fool you. They mean business as badass as you can imagine.
Thank you for making this video. It honors de Swiss Guards and tells real history while listening the music I like. Congrats, exellent job !!
Send this to the band ! They need to watch this masterpiece!
Bravo! Bravo! What a great video interpretation of that song!
The background video is either from the show ancient warriors or ancient Special Forces both had a episode on the papacy Swiss guard
Ancient Assassins 2016
Since we're all loving on the Swiss Guard, another legendary tale of them is when they defended the French Royal family during the revolution at Tuileries Palace.
I appreciate the historical accuracy even though I'm not a Christian. Men who fight and die bravery should have their memory honored.
Thou he may die he shall live in the kindgom of heaven forever. This is why these men died smile on their face.
Lutheran Germans
We now live in a world that has No Regard for Honor. I thank you for this song....May we all regain Our honor and be as the Last Defender!
I must disagree, some hold to it and have payed a large price but those that do hold to HONOUR and whats correct would do it again, even knowing what will happen.
Thank you so much for this!
Very nice i like it
I play as a Templar Warden in For Honor while blasting this into my ears
Rlly nice vid man
Kaspar Röisli, Herkules Göldi and their men - unforgotten
what society thinks men want vs what they actually want
Good solders follow orders
Good solders follow orders
Love the video. Full respect to our Swiss neighbors from a grandson of the Val di Sole/Non. Although eventually executed on the direct orders of Napoleon, my ancestors led the Hofer revolt. As many of my Noble ancestors supported the Emperor I hope and pray that none were present.
Very gpood job! Finally someone has done this and done it perfect
Thank you so much for making this. Absolutely incredible work
as a video editor myself I know how long this must have taken to put together and how much you poured into this. I like for the chrous it's a lot of the same clips but with slight variations. Deciding to put the soldier's bodies on the floor like that at the end really helped tell the story better. There's lots I loved about this video, but don't want to type a whole essay here. Well Done!!!!
Finally a video with the actual Swiss guard thnx
such an underrated edit. Incredible
The Swiss are good soldiers. One of my ancestors was a mercenary in the Flemmish army.
I mean were Neutral but our history is filled with blood and war
@@gopnikcrew4229y’all are neutral because everyone knows not to mess with ya
thank you so much for making an accurate version. most videos just use crusade movies.
Badass man
0:49 well... somehow this helmet endet up in a battle ca.400 years after its time
How can he see? 0:47
The real MVP!! Thanks for putting the proper context to the song
this is what i want, the music and history accurate, thx very much
Love it thanks!!!
I did some research on this and only a handful some accounts range from 2-10 Swiss guard survived which I would guess be the escorts
I loved it. I was hoping to see some Swiss sabers, but I doubt they have many prop Swiss sabers available for filming. So I won't hold it against you.
The Swiss guards was and always will be loyal and legendary. God bless them.
They was legendary. Blessing from Hungary
Very good!
Thank you for getting it right :)
The proudness as a swiss is hyping!!! 🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭
Hello tomblerone friend
Same for this American Catholic here
it's great when just music even without any single word can tell us the story.
His Holiness has chosen you for a most righteous task that only you can fulfill."
Sabaton: "Sup?"
The Swiss Guard: "You must write an anthem for the Swiss Guard. Can you do it?"
Sabaton: "Sounds easy enough. How awesome would you like it to be?"
The Swiss Guard: "What is the maximum?"
Sabaton: "IN THE NAME OF GOD!!!"
The Swiss Guard: "Yes."
Sabaton: "THY WILL BE DONE!!!"
Hahaha. Excellent!
Then the did the same for the Swedish Life Guard
Questi uomini meritano il paradiso
Thank you for posting this. I was going to show my class the one with crusaders, but I didn't feel comfortable with that historically inaccurate imagery.
If only all Christians could be this brave in sharing the Gospel with the lost peoples all around us!!!
How about you absolutely dont share your imaginare fate around us. Im quite happy to not deal with christian bs
And you know they are lost how? What cultural, social and religious arrogance. God is ineffable, yet you claim to know his mind?
Bravo! Good job mate!
Bravo, sick of people thinking it's a crusade song
Great! God Bless Them!
Just Epic... GJ
Finally....
AMAZING! 😮
Love it. Really. Almost as much as the song and it´s my 4th favorite Sabaton song
Awesome video!
This was great. Firestorm always needed a better fan music vid than what it has. Maybe masters of the air will finally give the necessary footage to make it happen.
The thing i don't see much being talked about is that the Swiss Guards, a famed mercenary army fought against the Landsnechts which were also a famed mercenary army.
Ex Virtute Dei Defendam, The Iron Wire! This music video is absolute F♨️I📛R🔥E!
Se parece como las peleas que se arman en los estadios de fútbol cuando el equipo local pierde
naa, demasiado civilizados para ser riña de futbol
Bravo.
This clips were from Ancient Assassins right? I remember watching this with my dad on TV.
