  • Autumn is here and with it comes motivation to do some fall displays around the outside of our home! I also show you a simple and delicious way to make homemade yogurt! So healthy and so yummy! Last of all, there is a surprise on the farm! Xander is thrilled!
For the homemade yogurt, my batches always come out lumpy which don't bother me, but it may some of you. I'm going to keep experimenting (maybe adding the yogurt after the milk has warmed up would be a better idea). I will update you all if I'm successful! It is still tasty IMO, and you can always blend or whisk it before eating. I'm guessing store bought milk wouldn't be as lumpy because it is homogenized.

Im not Mennonite but I thoroughly enjoy your videos. They are uplifting to me. I do get ideas from them. I definitely enjoy Zander. He is absolutely adorable. I enjoy the way he is a part of everything you do. It's obvious that he loves to help mom or dad and is learning so much. Thank you for a lifestyle that doesn't reflect what the "world" says is good or important. Thank you for reflecting Godly values.

I am watching on my t.v. and commented in the video. I saw the comment about Xanier "winging" the apple. I could see he was "talking" to himself whether he should or shouldn't l. Goodness his expressions are priceless.
He is so sweet. He makes me a giggle.

Again, it was a pleasure to watch your video.
In my part of California there is one farm in particular that is known for pumpkins. Big, small, all orange, and zillions of them. The other day I met a young lady whose last name was the same as the pumpkin farm. So when I heard it I said, So, you're a pumpkin! She grinned very wide and said, That's right. It was nice to meet a farm girl who liked what her family did.
I don't know if it would interest you, but you mentioned that the people on one of the farms were a different kind of Mennonite. I am one who is always interested in their church name, where they come from, and what our differences and similarities are. Then When I get home I look them up. To me this is all very positive and educational.
One time I had just got out of the hospital in Reno, Nevada. (For us, going to town is going the 90 miles to Reno.) So my fiancee and I went into a restaurant. There was a young lady in there with children. She and they were all plainly dressed. I asked which church she was from. I can't remember, but it wasn't Mennonite. Yet it was Anabaptist. We had a nice visit and good fellowship. And we sought to encourage her, since her husband was still in the hospital. And we kept him in our prayers for quite a while. We love meeting other Christians that way.
In one scene, as you were about to leave the farm, we saw a man walk by in the background. I thought of our conversation about the dressing of Mennonite men. This man was dressed like a conservative Mennonite. If you know what to look for, you can tell us apart from other men.
Your autumnal decorations were very charming. My sister lives on a cattle ranch. She does the same thing. Much of it is centered around the elevated porch, going into their house.
Xander's red apple reminded me of something. I pruned four apple trees for a couple in my new wife's church. They brought in two boxes of very nice apples for the folks at church.
They were very complimentary about my pruning -- after all, look at all the apples! Well it is nice to have people appreciate my work. But they had not thinned the fruit on the trees. This is to let folks know that pruning a fruit tree is to get higher quality fruit. Not more.
If you hold out your hand, open your fingers wide. The distance between your thumb and your pinky is the spacing you want on apples, pears and many other fruit. Fewer fruit on the tree will receive more energy from the tree. This equals better fruit.
I only have one thing to which I hope for an answer, this time. Do gluten free people have any relationship to your maladies you described?
    With thanks and Blessings,
    Michael.

    • @theMennoniteMom
      @theMennoniteMom  4 года назад +1

      Hello Michael,
thanks for the interesting comment. (: And good for you for pruning the apple trees so well! As far as the last question, I'm not totally sure what you are asking, but yes, often people that go gluten free are sensitive to gluten which is often a stomach problem to my knowledge. From what I understand, gluten has a tendency to eat away at your stomach lining (because of the chemicals used to breed the wheat), and so it often doesn't aid in healing of the gut and makes situations worse.
      have a lovely day!
      Jeannine

Hearing that jet go over your house, brought back memories of when I was a kid. We lived near an air base and jets would fly low everyday, so loud. I forgot what that sounded like. I have IBS, Gerd, and am sensitive to glutton. I’ve given up sugar and carbs. It was hard in the beginning but I feel so so much better and I know I won’t go back. . I hope you start feeling better too, so I would love to watch your journey, It takes a while learning what works and what doesn’t along the way. But it’s worth it to feel better.

I absolutely love your channel! It's the best most uplifting thing I watch. Xander was hilarious while you were filming. At one point he evidently ran into some seeds in his apple and was quite perturbed. He is growing up so fast-you guys are such great parents. I was glad to hear you are trying to get by without your meds-hope it works. I really admire the way you don't let your health problems stop you from doing what you want. I do a lot of ferments. I used to make my own yogurt but now I make kefir instead. It's so much easier & has many more strains of probiotics than yogurt. I make sauerkraut, beet kvass, fermented pickles, kombucha. Fermented foods are so nutritious and beneficial for good health. I grow a fairly large organic garden & orchard & I do a lot of canning. It's a lot of work but so worth it. I hope you find what heals your body.

I have health issues and IBS is one of them. I am really sensitive to medications and almost died from a reaction to a drug a few years ago so I have gone to a more natural approach to things. Diet (eliminated processed foods.. don't eat out except maybe once per month... cut out preservatives ... eat organic as much as possible.... etc) , exercise, changing things in my life to decrease stress ... getting rid of toxic things and learning to take care of me (as a nurse and a people pleaser I have always put others before me and finally realized that I need to take care of me). I also switched to essential oils and good supplements.

Good morning Janine! I too have similar issues, Ulcerated Crohn's! A couple years ago I started making Keifer, taking whole milk and putting keifer seeds (buds, many different names) in it to feed off of. In that time I've only had two minor flares! I used it in everything and it certainly has helped. I find keeping a food diary has helped too, writing down what I eat and how I feel afterwards so I know what will set it off but most of my flares are stress related. I have a neurological degenerative disease that messes with my autoimmunity so I have to be proactive instead of reactive. I'd love to see your new channel!

Pretty much anything you use milk or yogurt in you can sub in Keifer, just remember if you cook with it, the probiotics are reduced if not gone! I highly recommend as a good source of information on healing the gut, Cultured Food for Life by Donna Shwenk. She does pod casts, blog posts, videos, classes, online store, recipe books and etc,. I would follow your new channel. And yes we usually drink A2A2 milk 😉. 20 years ago my husband had cancer and we’ve been on a healthier food journey ever since. It’s been awhile since I’ve made my own yogurt and this has gotten me inspired again. I hope you can find healing through your diet. That’s the best way if possible. God is good. Enjoying a lovely fall day today

Good for you for following a healthier diet! It's not always easy! Make sure to get an instant pot! Saves so much time making yogurt!
