Keith is criminally underrated....mostly because he is a guitarists' guitarist...he plays for the song...not flashy, just perfectly compliments Bryan...good stuff DB!!! As always...
Listen to “Slave to Love” by Bryan Ferry. He plays all the lead lines on the song and it really ties everything together so well. That song really got me to discover Keith.
Dismissed at the time, because of the HEAVY, HEAVY rotation and the simple pop riffs. Was into prog rock at the time. Appreciated 60’s and 70’s era guitar pop, punk, new wave, but hated mainstream. These are great songs, and cool parts. Same ball club as Petty. Thanks for the breakdown!
On the “Run To You” interlude repeat, Bryan adds a lower harmony - it’s possible to play both parts on one guitar 🎸 Those two albums are terrific! I was lucky enough to first see him on his Cuts Like A Knife tour. Adams and Scott are a great pairing.
I was lucky enough to meet Brian Adam in Ottawa when he was the opening act for Lover Boy! I predicted then that he would be a star. His writing skill and vocals told the story!
July of 83 in Fresno CA I saw Journey, Eddie Money and Bryan Adams in concert. It was a guitar players dream day seeing Neal Schon, Jimmy Lyons and Keith Scott live. Neal is a legend but both Jimmy and Keith were spot on that day.
Awesome. I was born in 1969. Always a huge fan. I was a junior in high school when CDs came out. Reckless was the first CD I ever purchased. INXS - Listen Like Thieves was the 2nd.
Cute Like a Knife is my third favorite album of all time behind Def Leppard High N Dry and Queensryche Operation Mindcrime. It's one of those rare albums where every song is good.
@@MarkKirbyMusic Thanks for the like and the comment Mark, God bless you. Yeah Cuts Like a Knife isn't Metal but there are some hard rocking songs on it with great guitar work from Keith and the video for the song Cuts Like a Knife with those guys jamming their butt off down inside of a drained swimming pool and that girl walks out to the end of the high dive and dives into the pool is one of my favorite music videos ever, so cool. Take me Back and Don't Leave Me Lonely are classic guitar rockers as well.
I love watching your videos.. there's a calmness too them.. and I always learn at least 1 tasty lick or phease.. now I can't stop playing the lick in cuts like a knife..thanks
Bryan Adams is great. Keith is great. I saw them in concert maybe 2006 or so, they opened for Def Leppard. That was a great night. Thanks for talking about the chordplay!
Michael Bolton started in the hardrock genre with the band Blackjack where Bruce Kulick was the guitarist. Afterwards he released two great rockin‘ solo albums .... so, there is great music to check out, bro!
With Bryan Adams it was about good listenable songs and song crafting rather than a standout guitarist or something gimmicky. Well put together stuff by any standards really.
For a few weeks now I've been feeling like my android phone really is listening in on my conversations, etc., because the subjects keep coming up on adverts and RUclips. And now, this!
Happy New Year! Dig the channel. I would love you to do an episode where you address tuning. Your playing is always very in tune. Advice, tips, tricks? Cheers!
Thanks for this one David. Another great session. How about adding Chords of Alice Cooper (Glen Buxton era) to the queue - some tasty riffs in there for sure
I'm playing the songs since these albums came out and it wasn't so easy because Brian played the chords very differently especially on "It's only love". Also, I had not realyzed in 1984, that "Run to you" was played with a capo. But nowadays we have RUclips 👍🏼. Little tip for you: don't let the notes all ring out on the interlude of "Run to you". Keith played all notes one at a time
Great lesson. You are correct it doesn't have to be complicated to sound good. How about a video about Neil Giraldo. Another totally under rated guitarist.👍
Great stuff again Mr. Brewster! Reckless is one of the great albums of rock history, selling 12 million. Amazingly took it nearly a year after it’s release to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200. That’s staying power considering the competition. All six singles hit the top 15 in the Billboard Hot 100, previously only done by Thriller and Born in the USA.
Hi David.. Love your videos man! Adams is the king of sus chords!! BA didn't use capo for Run to you at all for the recording! He had the guitar tuned up a whole step with 012 gauge strings (that is what BA & Keith still playing).. Also the funny thing is that BA did not use Strat at all on the Reckless album. He started using Strats in 86... That's from a lot from reading on magazines and searching! Keep up the great videos! Cheers!
David....couldn't agree more with you over your views regarding love songs and ballads (good as some may be..) our big love for music is the beauty of a good old and new rock or blues riffs, with some great raw sounds.....but (unfortunately) its exactly theses love songs that make the big money for most musicians....chhhh...another great "lesson"...we live and learn..
great video - Keith's playing made me want to be that side guy. Love the reckless album - the guitar tones i realise nowdays thats how i developed my sound as a player - thanks for the trip David
When you were arpeggiating those sus4 triads, my wife yelled from across the house, "What song is that?" (proving your point about memorable simplicity!)
Love Keith Scott one of my favorite guitarist. He is a hook Meister. I wish I wrote his songs. The Melodic beginning of Cuts Like a Knife sounds a little bit like bagpipes. Reckless great album. I definitely hear you on the ballads or what I call whiney boy songs. But best love song I've heard in years is The Darkness's Love is Only a Feeling. But The Darkness is one of the best bands to come around in a long time. Killer guitar.
Great subject! A couple of suggestions that I don't think have been done so far... Mott the Hoople (yes there was a Bad Company video, but Mott's so distinctively 70s); and Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe fame. Thanks!
I loved Bryan Adams from his first album and lost interest in his music after waking up the neighbors...great songwriter, singer and guitarist...miss those 80s!!!!
Not a fan of Bryan Adams or his brand of music ... but the “chicks” dug it back in high school ... he was always on the radio rotation with the three or four songs and MTV loved him ... love the channel ...
Man, I really dig their simple and effective guitar parts! This chemistry reminds me of a similar symbiosis of Tom Petty and Mike Campbell - would be a great episode too.. ;)
one more thing....these examples of Brian Adams songs proof again, that the best songs and riffs are the simple ones....we all love complicated stuff, but more often its overkill....like a ot of 80ies shredds....
Bryan out out 2 previous albums before cuts like a knife without Keith Scott. His first wasn't great but you want it, you got it album was fantastic. Give it a listen because it won't let you down if you like the Bryan Adams sound.
Talkin aboot the 80s how aboot some chords of Men at Work. Also, cool video I remember these tunes and your so right MTV played the shit out of Bryan Adams!
Keith is criminally underrated....mostly because he is a guitarists' guitarist...he plays for the song...not flashy, just perfectly compliments Bryan...good stuff DB!!! As always...
100% on the mark....
Yes

I’m with you brother! Reckless was the first album I bought in 1983...I still can’t stop listening to it...
Scott wrote a lot of catchy riffs. Great raw tone with Adams. Well done 🍺’ski.
I was lucky enough to meet Brian Adam in Ottawa when he was the opening act for Lover Boy! I predicted then that he would be a star. His writing skill and vocals told the story!

as a guitarist i have always liked what bryan Adams and keith Scott did awesome progressions which when properly play yield awesome results
Run to you -one of my favorites , reminds me of a girl I once dated
Cute Like a Knife is my third favorite album of all time behind Def Leppard High N Dry and Queensryche Operation Mindcrime. It's one of those rare albums where every song is good.
I love those 3 albums. Back in the day you couldn’t say that and still be considered a “real metal fan”, so I suppose that’s progress....

Awesome! Lets get a Kazumi Watanabe vid !
Thanks again Dave . Once again great info.
Great hearing 'It's only Love' ; Lordy ,Tina Turner's vocals on that track - wow!
Bryan’s voice really helped pushed those older songs to 80’s legendary status. Thanks for the new lesson, “Run to you” looks fun to play.🤘🏽
GREAT video..love Bryan Adams and his band

Saw BA open for Loverboy At the Gardens in Toronto in ‘82. Amazing show
thank you!
Happy new year David :)
The E minor, G, D, A capoed up 2 frets in the chorus is just epic. Great song.
One of the best you tube vids ever watched. Nice spin on Bryan Adams. Well explained.
$100,000 to the person who finds David sitting in his car listening to Michael Bolton 🤣🤣🤣
Michael Bolton started in the hardrock genre with the band Blackjack where Bruce Kulick was the guitarist. Afterwards he released two great rockin‘ solo albums .... so, there is great music to check out, bro!
Nickle Bac - LMAO!
@@ollid.5590 I appreciate all kinds of music I’ll definitely check it out I love Bruce
@@LateNightLessons Why David? Bryan Adams…
You don’t have $100,000 to back that up with.
Keith Scott is great. Its only love is a great tune
Love the solo work on heaven. Till this very day.
With Bryan Adams it was about good listenable songs and song crafting rather than a standout guitarist or something gimmicky. Well put together stuff by any standards really.
I love how in long gone you called it the 70s chord. I always called it the Keef chord lol
Dude! Awesome vid! 🤘🏻
Summer of 69 one of his biggest hits.
Great use of the looper on
"Cuts like a knife" .
Maybe worth a lesson on looper parts ?
For a few weeks now I've been feeling like my android phone really is listening in on my conversations, etc., because the subjects keep coming up on adverts and RUclips. And now, this!
Awwww thank you buddy fir taking my request

Great memories from these BA tunes! Thanks man. Playing these tomorrow...
Loved playing run to you live and summer 69
Hey great video buddy.. Nice to hear those awesome riffs and its nice to see/hear you play them, great tone too, Greetings from Crete, Greece
excellent ! always liked Adams 🙂

Great video lesson!!!!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
My favorite album is Reckless. It is raw and rock and roll
One of the best concerts I ever attended was Bryan Adams with George Throughgood as the opener in 1987.
4:55 gotta have the strap fall in each video! LOL
Radio rock is fun to rock along with!
“Something like this....” and then plays it perfectly
Great show as always !! I live in Vancouver too !! Perfect !!

Love 80s guitar on so many songs even if they were pop!
Waking Up the Neighbors is more than just love songs. It's a great album.

One of my favorite Bryan Adams songs is When You're Gone, a duet he sang with Spice Girl (and hottie) Mel C. I love the video, too.
Excellent episode, David! 👍

Other great under rated Canadian guitar players: Randy Bachman, Kim Mitchell, Colin James, Myles Goodwyn, and Matt Minglewood.
Don’t forget the guys from the tragically hip!!!!
Steve Shelsky
Rik Emmet ...Ian Thornley....Huge list
April Wine.
Alex Lifeson🤙
Andy Timmons uses a lot of that "fretted note against open string".
Great subject! A couple of suggestions that I don't think have been done so far... Mott the Hoople (yes there was a Bad Company video, but Mott's so distinctively 70s); and Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe fame. Thanks!
Great guitar riffs and songs...FAR more important than solos; though I do love great solos that actually take the song somewhere.
epic, really enjoyed this one, simple is good
Well done sir🤘🏻🤘🏻

Great video just love thoose albums but the best solo is the Robin Hood theme love song or not😉 but that solo is so sweet. Thanks David
👍👏
Like a time machine .Bryan Adams me back to 1985
Awesome, as usual my friend!
Great lesson thanks for doing this one Dave :-)
Man, I really dig their simple and effective guitar parts! This chemistry reminds me of a similar symbiosis of Tom Petty and Mike Campbell - would be a great episode too.. ;)
Hey, you got a chance to use your new trem-bar, sweet!

Could you make a lesson based on Waking up the neighbours? There are really great hard rock songs on that album.
Don't Leave Me Lonely is a great song David!!
Long Gone has a flavor of Fantasy Girl in it.
Love your vids so much bud
"Ballads and love songs aren't really my thing"... somehow I could have guessed that David! ha
I give that F chord the George Lynch treatment, if ya know what I mean
I like it...I like it...
A little open high E and B strings? 🤘🏼
I've love to see a Steve Rothery / Marillion lesson. I felt like there was one, but can't find it in search. *shrug*
Okay I’ll go first. I have a Testament tattoo from back in the day but now I sing along to Air Supply in the shower.
Time for an intervention?
Check out the video of Kieran Johnston's solo on the Run to You cover, sweet and short shred solo😈🤘
Hey, don’t forget, before crooner Michael Bolton there was metal Michael Bolton. Worth a listen. Good, early 80’s hair metal.
Since you mentioned Michael Bolton, you have to admit his cover of Dock of a Bay with Neal Schon playing the guitar solo was pretty damn tasty.
The picture of him on the wall makes him look like David Bowie.
Would love to see a lesson on sergio galli of platunum blonde!!
I have to admit my secret passion is listening to Barbara Streisand records!!🤪
Friends don’t let friends listen to Michael Bolton alone in a car.
Can you please do a chordplay of Jhon Mayer?
I'm finding it hard to believe, you dislike heaven.
🎹😎👍🇨🇦
My band revs on Somebody and the Bass player moves it ...
Cool lesson
One on any of the bands would be great to
The Darkness
The Cult
Judas Priest
Warrant
👍
But the Robin Hood song/theme has one of the most beautiful solos lol ..yes Adams is great 💪🎸
