    She was seriously undermarked on a program that really stands the test of time. Later on in her career, the judges finally gave in and gave her the 5.9s and 6.0s she deserved.

    • @morlavader5454
      @morlavader5454 7 лет назад +1

      I think she also had an early draw in the final flight for the long program so it would be impossible to give straight 5.9s and 6.0s with others to skate. Had she skated last I think she would have gotten those marks here too probably.

    When you watch the other ladies perform at these 1970 worlds, and then watch Janet, you instantly recognize what a completely different skater she was...almost revolutionary in that every movement had meaning...and the position of her head and stretch of her legs completed each phrase. Comparatively speaking, why she didn't get a 6.0 for artistic impression after each performance astounds me.

    • @Greg07623
      @Greg07623 6 лет назад +8

      fitgraphisva Agree completely.. there were female skaters into the 90s whose jumping and footwork skills were inferior to this performance. Also she was so sweet and fresh faced. What a pleasure to recall her.

    Janet did a true toe-walley at 1:51. The inside edge on the skating leg was 100% clear cut right before she toe-picked into the double jump. Many toe walleys done by skaters in the 80s and 90s were really toe-loop.
    It's interesting that the U.S. had three champions back-to-back with superb layback spin: Peggy, Janey, and Dorothy.

      Janet got mostly 5.8s, two 5.9s and one 5.7. They seemed pretty good to me, and we don't know how many skaters still have to skate after Janet, so the judges had to leave some room. Plus Janet was only 16 at the time and skating at the first World, so the judges weren't familiar with her yet.

    彼女はグルノーブル五輪では筋力不足だったが、この頃は非常に綿密なプログラムを見事に消化している。ジャンプやスピンを普通のランからでは無くスパイラルやステップから滑らかに入るのは、彼女の最も得意とする所で、その後も彼女以上に「つなぎ」の上手い選手は出ていない。これは物凄い事で有る。

    This was such a lovely skate, Gabi did skate very well and was the defending world champion so her overall victory was deserved. But Janet got caught up in the very very tight mess between 3rd - 6th - I think Karen Magnussen would have been a more deserving bronze medalist here she skated nicely too - Julie Holmes' program was just a mess, and Suzy Almassy was solid but pedestrian (Karen had the most points of the 4 but tied Julie in ordinals but I guess Julie had more 3rd place votes).
