Hanging Lake is one of these Colorado places that keeps eluding me. It was your top Colorado places to visit that got me wanting to do this. Someday....
One day you will get it! There are countless hikes on our whiteboard and to do list that have eluded us for years, just gotta get them when you can slowly but surely. So much beauty to explore

That’s a good point, it definitely could’ve been. Sometimes the extra early coffee upsets her stomach too without having food to accompany it. But as always, she pushed through and crushed it! Happy holidays!

Since learning about this lake 2 years ago I have wanted to go. What month did you hike this? I prefer to go when it's cool but not icy which is why I'm asking. Thanks
We have done this twice, both in October. It would be a pretty rough hike on ice, I'd recommend going any time between May and October!
What happens if you're not out of the parking lot on time?
We researched this deeper, and here’s the gist of what we found (good to check with ranger as well). If you can be finished in 3 hours, please do, so other hikers after can have parking and their designated time. But say you’re taking a friend of family member who doesn’t hike and their pace is slower, to the point where 3 hours isn’t enough. To our understanding it’s fine if you’re not back in 3 hours. It’s just their recommendation/ask to continue to run things smoothly
What time of the year did you film this?
Both times I have done this have been in the fall - September/ October
Is the permits sold out or is just closed, I been checking for may.
I couldn't get a clear answer on this but most permit systems don't release tickets until 30 days before or on a specific launch date. For now, Hanging Lake is open and there aren't any closures, so permits probably just haven't been released yet!

Hanging Lake keeps getting destroyed in one way or another by tourists, so it's not consistently open (thankfully). Please stay out if you don't live nearby.

I know people love this, but it is people like you who have caused and are continuing to cause the influx of visitors who are destroying Hanging Lake. Please, from a local, I beg you to take this down.
