Chandpur (চাঁদপুর) is a district located in Bangladesh's Chittagong Division.
During the ruling of the Baro-Bhuiyans, this region was occupied by Chand Ray, the Zamindar of Bikrampur and son of Kedar Ray. According to historian J. M. Sengupta, the region was named Chandpur, following the name of Chand Ray. On the other hand, others say that the name of this region comes from Chand Faqir of Purindapur mahalla of Chandpur, Bangladesh. It is said that an administrator named Shah Ahmed Chand came here from Delhi in the fifteenth century and established a river port.
It was declared as Chandpur district on 15 February 1984.
CHANDPUR :-
Chandpur Sadar is an Upazila of the Chandpur District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. It is mainly reputed for its famous ilish fish, which are caught by the local fishermen from the nearby Meghna river.
HILSA OR ILISH:-
The ilish, also known as the ilisha, hilsa, hilsa herring or hilsa shad, is a species of fish related to the herring, in the family Clupeidae. It is a very popular and sought-after food fish in the Indian Subcontinent. The most famous hilsha fish comes from Chandpur District, Bangladesh.
