Tip #5-seeing beauty in everything is a good one. Found your channel a few years back, looking forward to new videos and brushing up on old ones. Keep up the good work
Have realized I’m a recovering tech-type. Recently followed advice of a respected RUclipsr and took my camera almost everywhere I went. After a while I started to feel a little bit like a musician with enough practice and experience that he or she could not only play a composition well but could also play the it well IN A DIFFERENT KEY. The more I take pictures the more the mechanics of taking them becomes second nature to me. An “ah ha!” Moment. So maybe one more tip: get a cheap camera. I have an entry level Nikon DSLR. It has 60% of my top-of-the-line DSLR and tiny compared next to the pro/advanced/do-everything camera. I can take it (and a basic prime lens) anywhere and take a lot of photos-without being afraid it might get lost, stolen or broken.
Thank you for your continued support, Rene! Much appreciated. I'm a little torn on the art side of things. It's a lot like a craft. If you follow a few principles, everyone can get great results. Only when it gets to being really creative, do I see the art shine through.
Yes, yes, yes totally agree with you! Since I begun to learn and to study the photography, I started to see with another eyes the nature, the environment, I discovered beauty where in the past looked ugly for me. The cold winter seems now more beautiful, the rain and the wind - a good chance to shot something interesting etc. Very good advices!
Thanks, Ionut. The downside of it is, that it sometimes feels you are missing opportunities because there are so many beautiful things and you don't always have your camera with you 🤣. Do you feel the same?
@@wolfamri O, yes, I perfectly understand what you mean. Sometime, when I arrive into a new place, I would take 1000+ photos trying to get the all beauty of the place. Sometime, indeed, I say "ah, if I had the camera with me..."😁
Great video explaining some simple things that I can do to improve. I take a lot of images at a time, but have not yet tried burst mode. Thank you for the reminder of this and other simple concepts!
@@wolfamri Just to let you know that I thankful for the photography course you put in RUclips! I got my first really good full frame camera the Panasonic Lumix S5 Mark I. Currently learning the buttons and menus. Your course will be next. And regarding these tips - I plan to return to this video from time time, just to remind myself of them. Wish you a healthy, happy and successful 2023! From Bulgaria 🇧🇬
@@wolfamri Thank you so much! I started with the Sony ZV-1 which was very good for the price but the Lumix S5 full frame is on another level. If you are ever in Bulgaria (Vienna - Sofia is 1000 KM) you can send me a message and you have one beer, schnapps or non-alcoholic drink on me!
Another good video suggest by YT. I wish you would do a video on how to curate the 45 pictures i took of a single subject (flower). Is there a process you go thru? I just dont know which to delete. It just hit me that you could provide a paid service (30min) to help people review their photos.
Thanks, Eddie. 45 should be rather straight forward. Yesterday evening I shot 504 images of ants - all within roughly 10 square inch 😂😂. Are you using Lightroom? A few websites have contacted me whether I want to join them and their services. Maybe one day ;). But thank you for the idea.
Sir please make a video regarding "how to win photography competitions" "what do we need to focus in case of these competitions and exhibitions"...will be waiting..please sirr 🙏🙏❤
I’d love to, but unfortunately these competitions are really very subjective. I’ve entered the same image to different competitions with the same theme. Once it won and once it became 329th 😂.
Starting out in film, I always had to get every image right and didn’t have the luxury of talking 100s of images. When digital came along, my attitude changed significantly. Depending on what I want to capture, I will modify how many photos I take. One thing I have learned is to be a good editor. Sometimes helps to be a little anal, lol Great video!
Oh yess, editing has become much more important with digital. I´m preparing lightroom lessons for photographers upon popular request. It seems that is almost what photographers are most interested in.
Hi there! The D3500 is surprisingly good and should work well for street photography. Very important are lenses. Consider using prime lenses. The only downside: with everyone jumping on mirrorless, buying new lenses for DSLRs will make them lose their value quicker than usual 😉.
@@wolfamri I'm very sorry for my misleading comment 😅😅😅😅. I mean when I perpard to shoot I try to imagine my photo competition but when I actually shoot the result isn't like my imagination 🤔🤔
@@hatemelshaer6311 🤣 oh yes, that's a pretty common problem. But without knowing what you don't like about the shot, it is hard to say. It is the background blur, or is the composition off? Or maybe something else?

The “spray and pray” technique your advocating should be tempered with the importance of thinking and shooting with intention...as if you’re shooting film and need to make each shot count. Yes of course when shooting action multiple shots should be taken but, although your example was of an action shooting session, I think the general advice of “Take more photos” without adding in the importance of focusing on fundamentals and contemplating is not conducive to improving one’s talent. If making money is the only goal, then sure everyone should just take a thousand shots of everything and hope for the best but many of us don’t shoot for money; we watch your videos solely to improve our skills. Getting lucky because I held the shutter down in burst mode may have some narrow applicability but it doesn’t help me become better at photography. I’ve loved every one of your videos so far but I am a bit disappointed in this one.
Sorry to hear that you are disappointed, Alex. I try to improve, promised ;). However, I do stand by this for far more than just action shots. Even for portraits, I tend to always take a set of 2-3 per shutter button press. There are these subtle changes in expression, or maybe closed eyes that would mean that you miss the shot. Same for example at bit moment during a wedding, being it professional for money or the one of your best friend. You don't want the eyes of the bride closed when she gets her ring. Same with focus. If you shoot just one portrait (not talking about burst shots here), it might be out of focus. Particularly beginner cameras, but also more advanced don't always focus perfectly well. Imagine that one shot being out of focus. Believe me, I have been there. So that option of selecting the best image of a series of images instead of having just one image for every "scene" will dramatically improve your results. There are very few exceptions. Maybe landscapes, but usually when I'm at a great location, I cannot stop shooting. That doesn't meant though that I don't carefully frame my shots. I hope that explains it a bit better.
@@wolfamri I agree and I do the same for weddings and portraits. I guess the issue I had was that you didn’t clarify the “take more shots” versus being contemplative and really thinking about shots when one has the time to do so-this would apply mainly to landscape photography and still life work. First tip is the worst advice for photography. Taking 470 photos of the same thing is compulsive behaviour.
And who said that you should take 470 photos of the same thing? 🤷♂️
@@wolfamri You did. You took 487 shots of a person running just to select 1 picture. If a chimpanzee takes 487 pictures then by chance one will be good. Where is the satisfaction in pressing the shutter without a clear intent, just to sift through hundreds of photos in post.
Why do you assume I didn’t have a clear intent? I shot these images of a woman running on a snowy road. At the time I took this video, I didn’t have the superfast focusing cameras and lenses available that I have today. Nor do most beginners nowadays. So to get an image that is sharp, has a good pose and doesn’t suffer from chromatic aberration is not as easy as you may think.
