Dragon's Dogma 2 is Zoomer Morrowind and I love it

  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 an early but solid contender for GOTY - we said that might be the case during preview, and we’re certain of it now. It’s a game of uncompromised vision, where the original looked at the likes of Fable and Oblivion and asked “what does Capcom’s version of that look like?”, the sequel responds: “why don’t we make Capcom’s version of Dragon’s Dogma instead?”.
The original game is full of compromises. Content cut short for time or RAM. An entire planned beast race that never made it in. Only two inhabited settlements, one of them a tiny tutorial village. And squeezed onto creaking hardware that could barely run it. Well, the more things change, etc. To anyone with an interest in the original game and its development, it’s clear that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a labour of love, and a hugely successful do-over for an idea that didn’t quite materialise on the first attempt.
Which is why, as explained in the video above, I’m not convinced by the circulating idea that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is some kind of cynical money-grab. Yes, the microtransactions are stupid, pointless, and opportunistic. But if they’re a dealbreaker, that’s a whole lot of baby getting thrown out with the bath water.

That is what makes Dragon‘s Dogma pretty unique, it’s all about exploring and carving your own path and shortcuts with crystals or by discovering interconnected caves that shorten convoluted paths. So each player has a unique constantly changing gaming experience, different quests, different play styles.

i agree 100% with this video. I don't understand these people that started to complain about fast travel, the lack of possibility to kill certain NPC's , the autolevel of enemies and etc , on oblivion. But then when a game like DD2 release , they start to complain about the opposite of it.
I don't know what these people really want from a video game, it seems like they just complain about everything, all the time.

I do like it as a short-burst kind of game as well, save for the fact that sometimes if I'm playing on my lunchbreak the entire session could be spent prepping my party in towns. Your mileage may vary.

My main problems with DD2 are
    1. the quests SUUUCK big time and become a tedious back and forth through the same paths and same enemies 50 times. you end up running by everything instead of wasting time fighting stuff or like me just spam ferrystones and fast travel everywhere
    2. it’s waaaay to easy, after level 25-30 I was destroying dragons with little effort
    3. performance in certain places especially towns or if there are a bunch of alpha effects on screen will give you a headache
    4. end game is extremely limited compared to the Everfall and BBI, I loved farming in the first but lost interest quick

Thanks for this. There was SO much disinformation - misleading and factually incorrect reporting about this game.

It's definitely one of the best games I've played in many many years. I've played it now on PS5 for nearly 200 hours and not even found any of this buying that people are moaning about!

The 'lack of fast travel' really isn't even true as the oxcarts / dozing off is pretty damn fast and Ignoring all the mtx doesn't affect your game at all. However it is BS that they let the reviews get out before patching them in, and selling game basic mechanics for cash is still pretty shady.
I'm having a blast with it all the same, it feels like an adventure and I hope they do some proper dlc for it.

its old school MMO eques, mobs planted in a set pattern you have to fight or try and out run through them, depending on there agro lasso range. Its an ok game but the slog of having to fight through endless mobs every single journey on same road gets tiring. Its not until nearly end game when you can buy port crystals and ferry stones fairly easily.
Not mentioning the performance issues on top of the range machines, let alone joe blogs with a midrange PC they upgraded over last 2 years.
So a AA game but no way is this a contender for Gothy or all time Gothy, for that on PC looking at RDR2 was last all time gothy

I wish I could see it this way. But after more than ten hours, this feels like a remake to me. I've yet to see something fresh...
Pawns are boring and keep repeating stuff. Enemies are basically the same as in the first game. Vistas looks fancier, but they look too much like the first game.
After ten years, Capcom should have done a better job, but unfortunately this game was made by a small team

Too bad it costs more than what some people pay for internet each month. Its literally 109,99. You would have to be insane to buy and support this in any way shape or form.

It's 70 dollars, not 109.99. Why are people online hellbent on spreading misinformation about this game. Very strange.
