This channel has become a blessing. To wax eloquent for a second, whilst perhaps not as loquacious as John Arlott, Tony Cozier etc, the sheer affection the commentator has for his team, and the wider game, takes me back to a kinder and, if you will, gentler time, when th spirit and the joy of playing was of the utmost import. You've given the teams you commentate on genuine personality and allow those of us who follow the game a measure of shared connection with Sanderstead CC. It's like a televisual drama - with added boundaries...
What a lovely, and indeed eloquent, thing to say! It has always been my aim to paint a picture of everything good about grass roots cricket - something, like you, I grew up with in gentler times. Delighted you have found us and hopefully we can bring more cricket soon! Cheers 🍻
In these sombre days, thank you for helping us to remember that all things will pass, and that cricket will again be played. And the very *best* of it will be 'village'.
A great channel, celebrating the very best of those who may not have the most talent, but have the greatest love of this wonderful game. Turning out week after week, despite knowing that there's a reasonable chance of you making a complete a**e of yourself, is testament to these great sportsmen. I played at a high level from 14 to my early 40s. It was deadly serious (and until you've played in the Yorkshire or Bradford Leagues, you probably don't understand how serious cricket can be). Then age caught up and I gradually dropped down the teams and the leagues and regular bloopers like this crept into my game, but I only finally retired at 64 when I couldn't run, couldn't see well enough to bat or catch and was too stiff to bowl. The cricket became more "village" and i actually enjoyed it more because funny things like these happened. It became fun. (But despite not being able to see, after retirement, they asked me to umpire for the 4th XI!) Hail Sanderstead Cricket Club. You may be southerners, but you're a great bunch. Greetings from Yorkshire and good luck for the coming season.
From a cricket tragic in the antipodes let me tell you I've seen everything in this video in games I've played in - on the other side of the world!!! Cricket is the greatest game, ever...bar none.
I didn't even think I liked cricket until I started watching your channel! You've awakened SO many nostalgic memories for me... watching village cricket as a child - memories I didn't know I had until I started watching. Thank you SO much for making recent hard times a little bit lighter. Keep doing what you do. A very heartfelt Thank You. xx

The beauty of village cricket is that not only is the sport highlighted but the people of the village as they go about their daily lives, take for example the Archbishop going around picking up rubbish & scattering rubbish bins around to his hearts content. I like many of your watchers have no idea if he's a man of the cloth or just some village identity with nothing else to do. Then we were introduced to the local "Lord" at least I think he was described as that, he was dressed properly with a tie, (something I haven't worn for years), and he sat somewhat apart from the rabble lol. Another worthy of a mention was the dog taking the woman for a walk, this happens all over the place and obviously the human's involved have no interest in cricket at all but I wonder if a ball went in the dog's direction what sort of fun the cameraman would have in describing the dire situation. Regardless I like many others will be taking time out from my heavy schedule - Yea Right - to concentrate on the comings and goings at the Mill.
