    What I love about this series is that Coyote actually interacts with the viewers and his crew, it's so unique and refreshing

    I find it funny how little she reacted to being scooped off of her tree. One moment she's trying to deter Coyote and the next she's like "Welp I've been caught. Time to look adorable."

    MERRY CHRISTMAS! To take off pitch or sap, use butter. It comes off amazingly easy, it will even come out of your hair that way.

    Are Pine Martens endangered?

    • @CoyotePeterson
      @CoyotePeterson 10 лет назад +4

      Good question, no they're not endangered but they are labeled as a species that could potentially become threatened and because of this there are conservation efforts for them.

      watchensee Some subspecies are highly endangered or extinct. In some regions, they have become extinct. For example, they used to live all the way down to Pennsylvania and Illinois, but are completely extinct from those states now. But overall, lumping all the subspecies together, most of them live in the vast Canadian forests (the taiga) and Alaska. They live to the northern limit of the trees. Logging and trapping can endanger them locally, but we are not even remotely close to logging enough of the Canadian forest to endanger them on the species level. I suppose climate change could cause them to become extinct in current southern limits of their range (like New Mexico), but global warming would likely also cause the northern limit of the trees to expand northward, so for all we know, it would actually increase the total land area habitable to them (since they are confined to mountains on the southern end of their range and mountains are narrower than the northern half of North America). Climate change's impact on total snowfall could be more important, though.

      tatarjj2007 Awe well then they should be mostly all over North America. Maybe someday they can be reintroduced back to these areas? They reintroduced Elk back into Pennsylvania.

      Funny you say that, I looked it up, and there actually have been studies on re-releasing them into Pennsylvania. I don't think they have followed the studies through with actual action (yet), so maybe the only American martens in Pennsylvania are the ones in Hershey, PA (at Zoo America).
      Anyway, partly because we Americans are exporting our environmental destruction to countries like Brazil and China (through importing a lot of their food and other products), and partly because the US and Canadian governments are wealthy and good at enforcing game laws, North American wildlife is actually doing a bit better overall than wildlife on other continents.
      For example, because South American countries are devastating the rain forest for our benefit, we can let a lot of our own forests regrow. For the American marten and many other species fortunate enough to be on the positive receiving end, destroying the environment in a distant part of the world instead of North America is great news. This is the reason why it might be possible, for example, to very soon reintroduce American martens into Pennsylvania- the old-growth forests they need to survive are starting to come back.
