When you mentioned Super Shops ... I remember spending hours in those stores fantasizing about all the things I was going to do to beef up my 76 Camaro. 😁😁
I went home a few years ago after being gone for 40 plus years. My favorite bowling alley was closed for years and still closed. Downtown was gone but just empty buildings. Too bad. Was a nice place at one time.
Yep all of them. I got my first pair of Levi's 501 Straight legs not preshrunk at the army navy across from the Bank of America near city hall on VNB Rick's drive in don't know deardons no idea Cupids loved

@@colt45peacemaker When I visited the valley, I decided to visit the old army navy store at 4:00pm one afternoon. I got there just as the owner was sticking his key in the door to lock up for the final time. We talked for quite a while and it was sad. He said he was constantly robbed by the homeless, hookers and drug addicts living on the sidewalk in front of his store. He said LAPD would do nothing about it and he just couldn’t take it any longer.
I remember cupids I use to walk home from Van nuys elementary and stop there for food. I use eat there and at the Tommy’s burgers across the street from the laundromat with the funky mural of the 3 guys reaching to the sky lol
I went to Van Nuys Elementary and Van Nuys Jr High in the 70s. I lived right next to Van Nuys High but we moved to Winnetka so I went to Cleveland High. I remember getting bussed to Pacoima Jr High in 8th grade, 1978.
oh wow, you and me grew up only about 15 houses away. this is insane to find a video of someone who lived just down the street from where i grew up. Thanks for this video man, it brings back memories
Until circa 1962, the Red Car tracks turned north at Chandler onto Vanuys Blvd. The rails ran up the center of Van Nuys Blvd to Sherman Way and turned into the bus barn for the MTA, which later became the RTD.
Grew up at 14353 Friar St went to Van Nuys Elementary just on the other side of Victory and got bused to Encino Elementary for 5th grade I think my teachers name was Ms Palmer I graduated from Van Nuys Elementary for 6th grade I had Ms Reid, I miss Tommy’s and Cupids sooooooo muuuuuuch.
Me too except 6th grade. Born in 1969. It was a waste I would have been better staying at Van Nuys rather than being bused to rich neighborhood. What a waste of resources time and money. We (the poor kids) were never accepted by the rich Encino kids. Seperate classes and the wealthy parents explained the their kids that the bad kids were coming to there school. Should have spent money on more classrooms more teachers instead of bus drivers and busses.
@@MichaelDillin I agree I remember they asked me if I wanted to come back for 6th grade some of my friends said yeah but I said no, I couldn’t wait to go home.
Lived on Haynes close to Balboa in the teens. I liked it. Of course I am a very big guy and folks tell me that I look kinda crazy/evil. Not really, but okay. I loved the Balboa Park complex. One big concrete rimmed pond and a much more natural pond chock full of water fowl of all descriptions. The RC aircraft area was amazing too, helicopters, turbo jets you name it!
Cool. I remember the "Sepulveda Dam" the RC planes. My day took me there to launch the first Estes rocket I built. Used to go picnicking in the water area. Once left our dog there. When we drove back to get him we met him on the road running toward us. SMH😁👍🤣
How did you remember all this? Going too fast at times to take notes. I drive or walk and say to me what was there? You remembered what was and is no more. I visited Los Angeles from Ohio in 2008 and stayed in Woodland Hills. Visited Van Nuys while I was there and while some parts looked nice it shocked me how I felt I was in Tijuana. Not because of race(I'm Black) but because of language and how trashy it looked.
Yeah, it’s a shame. I grew up at Kester and Kitteridge next to Van Nuys High in the 70s. Never had a problem and it was a fun place to grow up. Now, you’re gambling with your life just walking your dog in that area.
I grew up on Willis and Cedros close to Nordhoff side.....left the Valley in 91. So, many memories as a kid.
Graduated VNHS in "52. Remember when the VONS opened. All looks very sad now.
Very sad indeed My parents were born in 1950 and should have graduated Van nuys high School lol as should have I
Great video
Thanks and especially for the feedback!
