- Mark Rober is a NASA engineer-turned-RUclips juggernaut whose videos range from building the world's largest Super Soaker, to the annual porch-pirate glitter-bomb holiday extravaganza. He also has a new project on the way called Mark Rober's Revengineers, a hidden-camera, science-focused prank show coming soon to Discovery Channel. But how is he with spicy food? Find out as Rober takes on the wings of death and throws the kitchen sink of antidotes at them, attempting-unsuccessfully-to use science to escape the heat.

And for a guy who usually taps out on the taco bell mild sauce, Mark handled the challenge like an absolute champ. Even with the capsaicin remedies, this had to be brutal.
What an amazing episode!!! so great to hear about all the wonderful initiatives this man is part of in this world!
Electrical engineer of 23 years, nerd since 1977 and I absolutely LOVE what Rober and others have done for STEM. Cool nerds have always existed in the shadows, but this guy is amazing. And do NOT EVER DOUBT how smart he actually is, working for NASA and JPL is already like top 1% of 1%.
And the dude left NASA to make RUclips videos. That's some courage.
As someone who worked for NASA in the early naughts (not JPL instead Ames Research) I'm going to disagree with the top1% of 1%. Like any corporation there is a lot of bureaucracy there, there's some level of mediocrity there, and yeah there are a lot of smart individuals who know a lot about a particular subject (astronomy, or physics, or engineer, or computer programming, or some combinations of those) but it really is no different someone who knows a lot about some other subject say history or literature it's just not as "flashy" to brag about (mom loved telling her friends her son was a rocket scientist... even though I didn't actually work with rockets at all). And unless you're one of said bureaucratic heads of a department pay is not really anything to write home about either, above a teacher's salary sure but not that much above, it's by no means any Google/Apple type of pay salary (and I use those as examples because Ames Research is near by).
Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way upset or angry about NASA, but I know I'm not the top 1% much less top 1% of 1%, and I am humble enough to know there are people who know so much more than me it's not fun, some of them are at NASA, some of them work at universities, and that's just in the topics I know about. I'm not denying Rober is a super smart guy mind you, he's definitely got an engineer's mindset, I'm just saying just because you work there doesn't mean you are by default smart, it's not like a think tank where they only hire the smartest and brightest minds... I mean I got hired for crying out loud :)
“How dare you make me think under these conditions” is a great guest tagline - basically the goal for every hot one interview is to get the guest to this point.

That thing about the frisbee isn't really true, I mean, not entirely. The best 'frisbee' is actually a hollow ring. It's the gyroscopic effect that makes it stable, and the weight of the ring has a high inertia, so it keeps rotating very easily. That is adorable! High five to your tiny scientist!
I'm 24, and Mark has inspired ME to also build and design, ever since I started watching him in high-school lol.
Just dont get his hands on tiktok and he'll become an engineer
@@Jesus_616_Christ why are you 24
I love when guests just randomly offer Sean food, it's just just so sweet
OK, I have been watching Hot Ones for a while, and this is ALREADY my favorite just 3 minutes in. Mark bringing the fear and science is SO RELATABLE. I’m glad you showed each of his “hacks” in the final cut. Cheers!
A person who can ask the best questions and the person who can find answer for anything.. sounds like a cool interview
*spicy interview
Well said bro sean got some brilliant questions
i wonder what his answer would be to "why do you give 10% of your income to a cult?"
@@modestrocker1 huhhhhh
I had no idea who this guy is but that was one of my favorite episodes. I feel like I’ve learned so much, and he’s so enthusiastic about how cool science is
And if you check out his videos, you learn so much and have so much fun. It’s something I look forward to watching with my 11 year old. Wholesome, educational, and funny - never boring.
The man has close to 3 billion total channel views, I'm almost impressed you haven't heard of him up to this point
His RUclips channel is great
@@admiralAlfonso9001 what is the name of it? I haven’t heard of him either!
@@NG-yf8ls Mark Rober is the channel name.
This guy is mad Inspiring!. Glad I found him on my birthday!
"It helps certainly when it's in" - Mark Rober 2022
The way he explained the frisbee thing with such enthusiasm made me smile
Mark Robers is such a great youtuber, I love the fact that both channels came together for this episode
Most enjoyable episode yet. Thanks Mark!
Love Mark and Love Sean! This is the one I’ve been waiting for!!!
I sincerely appreciate how obvious his love for science is and how genuinely brilliant he is, yet he is so approachable, kind, and doesn’t seem to have an ounce of condescension in his body. What a fun episode!
A man that deserves every bit of success he earned. Truly an excellent person.
He’s an incredible guy
He's a great guy, but I wouldn't go as far as to call him "brilliant". The man has made some weird choices and takes plenty of time (1-4 years) to create some (what others might consider) simple stuff. Nonetheless he's very approachable/likeable and get's people interested in science. So I don't want to bring him down or anything. I would just reserve the word "brilliant" for a select few.
@@glp.1337 I don't know what weird choices your talking about, but brilliant means exceptionally clever or talented, so I'd say he applies to that description.

The good energy here is very contagious. Sean Evans the most respectful interviewer. Mark Rober coolest scientist and RUclipsr. ❤️ There’s a lot of awesomeness going on here.
I had a grin on my face the whole time watching :)
Sean Evans lets his guest dictate the experience. His guest is slamming throat numbing spray? Sean Evans doesn't need it at all but his guest does it and he does it. Grohl wants to do shots Sean Evans is doing shots, shot for shot.
@@BarryB.Benson I know right?
14:25 Sean gives Mark a priceless look of bro these things don't stand a chance against these sauces. 🤣
This episode has to be the best so far. Mark Rober in true character bringing the science to the hot seat. I was amazed at the thought he put into battling wings... the spray, though... is he okay?????
(19:12) Mark Rober telling you “Good knowledge” has to be one of the highest compliments from him. You go, Sean!
Shaun is a sheep. Sean is the host ;)
@@dheijnemans 😁😁
That and "Thats decently average"
@@dheijnemans 😂You’re so right! How’d I miss that? I fixed it🙌🏻
I love that he freely admitted he had zero tolerance, and likely said "I'll do it, but I'm gonna need help"
I can't even imagine getting to work on something like the Curiosity rover. That would be the coolest thing ever.
