    Enjoy this nice long video. Since the weather is windy and cold, the troops are inside. Moke sits near Calaya and Zahra and tries to take her, but Calaya stops him. Kibibi and Mandara sit in front of the glass, and the visitors are pleased.
    Enjoy!

      A tropa é Baraka (pai) e do Zoológico Nacional de Washington DC. A mãe é Calaya com um filho de 5 anos, Moke, e Zahra, de 9 meses. Mandara é mãe de Kibibi e também mãe adotiva de Baraka.

    I could listen to that one lady keeper all day, she’s soooo caring and always happy to educate visitors and frankly a credit to the zoo in my opinion, don’t get me wrong I’m sure all the staff are accessional however to me she’s super. Mom’s very attentive with baby Zahra with her little taps on top of babies head as if to say “don’t panic I’m here” adorable. Paul-UK

    What an excellent video. I love to watchall of their behaviors. Baraka is always alert but calm. He seems to known where everyone is and what they r doing. Mom and baby are so precious to watch. Zahra is getting big. Moke is a typical teen. He wants so badly to play with Zahra. The look Moke received when he tried to run away with Zahra said it all. That look when I received it as a kid meant I was grounded until I was 90. It was handled beautiful. No fuss. Just a firm no u aren't. I am looking forward to the day that Moke and Zahra can play. That will be off the charts. It was also educational to listen to the keepers. I could stand there all day and watch and listen. Speaking of keepers, have u seen or talked to any of the panda keepers? Do u know how they are doing? I vet the panda habitat looks so lonely. It must be had for them. Cheej has moved to his permanent home. I hear they had snow. Not sure if he was able to play in it. Mei and Tian have moved to a non- exhibit area. There was a video of them today. Tian looks like he may have lost a tiny amount of weight but otherwise they look good. They were eating during the whole video. Nothing has changed except location. I hope u are well. I also hope u have wonderful holidays. Thanks again for the lift in spirits with ur video. Take care.

      Hi Kathy - It's always good to hear from you. I stopped by the panda exhibit a couple of weeks ago and it looks the same except with lots of fall leaves. The toys in the back are no longer visible or there. I haven't seen the panda keepers but I read Laurie is working with red pandas. I usually go straight to the Ape house and leave. As for Moke, he was patiently waiting for Zahra, sitting next to Mama and Z. He waited for the right moment to grab her but Calaya did not allow it. I can't wait until Z is much older. It will be so much to watch them interact. I did see the new videos of the Tians. I miss them so much.

    I think they need to feed them more. Plants and vegetables and fruits garrillas eat plants by the tons in the wild for 5 hours at a time they vegetarian s. So they body requires more food were is the food that baby is very skinny they need more food to eat there starving them to death

    Why do they keep throwing up their food and eating it?

    • @zoogoer
      @zoogoer  4 месяца назад +1

      Here's more infor about it from NZ page: nationalzoo.si.edu/animals/western-lowland-gorilla There are three feeding behaviors sometimes observed in gorillas in human care that can bother visitors. These behaviors are natural, though not to humans. They are regurgitation and reingestion, coprophagy (eating feces) and urine drinking. Regurgitation and reingestion involves an animal regurgitating some of its food and re-eating it. Biologists do not entirely understand why gorillas exhibit this behavior in human care.
      A few ideas include starch or sugar content, mineral recapture or the food tasting good. Provision of forage foods, increased smaller feedings and providing browse seem to reduce this behavior in some individuals. Coprophagy is seen in the wild and is defined as the eating of feces. Gorillas do not have very efficient digestive systems for a high fiber diet, so unprocessed food can be found in their feces. Coprophagy allows an animal to utilize this food. Similarly, urine drinking might be explained as the recollection of minerals.
