I'm really vibing off your positivity in this video. I had already read Yellowface - am currently downloading Emily Wilde.
For years and years you have been and guide and influence on me finding good books. Thanks Jean.
A Natural History of Dragons is a light academia fantasy I just read this month and loved. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend the audiobook
I was thinking of this series as Jean was explaining the premise of Encyclopaedia of Fairies, it sounded so similar I wondered if this is why she got deja vu?
I just edited my own comment to recommend this series (even though I think I remember Jean saying in the past she didn't get on with it) because I LOVED it.
Sounds interesting. Will check if on Libby!
Absolutely loved Yellowface. Definitely my favorite book of the year. Really enjoyed your video ❤
Love Emily Wilde. I recently read the 2nd book as an ARC and loved it just as much.
OMG I AM SO JEALOUS NOW AHA!
Lovely to see you looking so much more relaxed at the end of the video! I’ll definitely be adding both of these to my tbr. A cosy fantasy is a new thing for me and I’ll definitely look into this more too! Happy ready to you too 💖💖💖
Both of these books are already on my shelves so this video is exactly the little kick I need to read them!
O, I have all of these too. When I get home I have to pick them up
YES!!!! You will not regret it.
I'm always behind on most new releases, because I'm often waiting until it comes out as a paperback in the US. I want read Yellowface, but when it comes to something like that I got to be in the right mood.
I stayed up all night reading Yellowface and I loved it. It was so captivating and I could not stop myself.
Emily Wilde is on my Amazon wishlist but based on your review, I will buy as soon as possible.
that's amazing! i'm glad you found such gems. i need to get on yellowface as well. i'm actually going to do a very similar vlog with Yellowface and Small Worlds by Caleb Azuma Nelson. :) so can't wait to read them.
The first book that came to mind on my shelf that came to mind at the start of this video is Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid. I own it n hardback because I bought it when it came out and everyone was talking about it but I still haven't read it. I think you have just inspired me to pick it up next.
Side note: I was in Forbidden Planet on Shaftesbury Avenue today and say your Egyptian Myths book on display and felt strangely proud!
Second edit: I know you've tried the series in the past and didn't get on with it, but I urge you to persevere with A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan. I love them, and I think it will give you what you've looking for in terms of fantasy academia.
Hi Jean, Emily Wilde is on my TBR.
Loved this reading vlog :) I've also read both of these! I read Emily Wilde in one day when I was very ill so it was a very nice distraction, loved it as well! Yellowface was too much for me, I can't deal with unlikeable characters so Juniper was too much for me hahah, what an anxiety filled book. It was for a bookclub (I don't think I would have picked it up otherwise), so I think it will spark a nice discussion.
Glad you enjoyed Yellowface. I managed to get a lovely Waterstones stained edge edition of it.
Waterstones knows how to do a gorgeous edition ;)
@@JeansThoughts Definitely. As an author it would be a dream to have them do a special edition of a book.
You’ve convinced me, Emily Wilde is the next novel I’m going to start!
I really enjoyed Emily Wilde. Very chill read, which I need right now! Also loving Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson, as very sweet and Princess Bride-esque. Just nice to have heartwarming, sweet books to read 🙂
The way you described emily wilde made me think of a natural history of dragons 😊
Aaaaah I wanted to love that book so much but I need my dragons to be more intelligent and magical. I do think there are similar vibes though! If you enjoy natural history of dragons you’ll enjoy Emily Wilde!!!
I just ran to my neighborhood independent bookstore in NYC to grab a copy of Emily Wildes Encyclopedia of Faeries based on your recommendation . I too, find myself feeling down., not in a good state of mind. Feeling overwhelmed by the state of the world right now, especially with what's happening in US politics. Greatly In need of escapism into a fantasy world of a Magic. ✨💫 Thank you Jean, really enjoyed this video 😊
oh I really hope Emily Wilde gives you a little bit of that!
Completely unrelated… but that size barrel curling iron did you use on this hair style?
📖😃📚
I just started Yellowface so really enjoyed seeing your experience of reading it! Like you, I think I will finish it in 48 hours it is that good! Lovely vlog :)
You will! I think everyone I’ve talked to now said they finished it in 1-3 days.
