  • If you haven't heard, this week Intuit announced it would cut nearly 2,000 employees and close down its campus in Eagle near Boise, as well as a location in Edmonton, Canada. It's cutting about 10% of the workforce, which is likely due to them sending more jobs overseas to places like India.
If you didn't know, I have been a Software Engineer for the last 10 years and had been working at Intuit here in the Boise area for the last 4+ years. It has been a great ride and gave me a lot of opportunity along the way - one of the amazing benefits was being relocated to the Boise area at the beginning of 2020. I'm so grateful for that, and also for the time I had at the company. I experienced a lot of professional growth during this time, and it was a solid job for several years. It allowed me to support my family and the benefits were great.
Over the past couple of years though, things began to change a lot as the Boise site grew much more integrated into the Intuit ways. Much more "corporate", if you will. We struggled to find a replacement manager for a long time, and the leadership struggled to come up with consistent plans for going forward.
But it wasn't just my team that lost our jobs, it was EVERYONE that worked out of the Intuit Boise site. As frustrating as all of this is, it's beyond my control. What I CAN control is how I react to the situation. And I have decided to think of this as an amazing opportunity!
