    The 8 Things:
#1 Have an elevator pitch for yourself
#2 Knowing you don't have to be rich to start your own project
#3 Create a personal vs internet life
#4 Pick the few things you do well and forget the rest
#5 Focus less on perfection and more on "cluster talents"
    #6 Identify very important gaps
    #7 Get creative about compensation
#8 Network in a way that actually works

Life is too short to spend any part of it crying at a desk in a company you hate working for. While now is maybe not the best time to make any life-changing moves, it's always good to have that in mind. Best of luck!

Late reply, but just stumbled upon this video. Thank you for sharing, and I hope you're doing better now!
I relate to this so much particularly lately, as I've found myself not really being happy with where I'm at in life, work-wise. And it took me a bit of working through things in therapy to get to the point where I'm starting to value myself enough to start putting together a plan to find new employment, if I'm unhappy at my current workplace. Took me months to prioritize my mental health enough to find my current job, after having a string of failed interviews and past inability to hold jobs. Then the first job I actually managed to hold for a long time, had a toxic workplace, and made me feel super insecure about my ability to succeed anywhere else. I took on the pressure of performing well at these jobs but without the right tools to do so, I kept falling flat. Turns out it's avoidant behavior due to anxiety caused by parental pressure growing up. And mind you, these are entry-level, low-skill jobs, too, which just adds to the shame when I fail (I'm approaching 30 yrs old now).
But I've worked through my avoidant behavior a bit w/ my current therapist and instead of just being anxious all day at work, I can A.) make peace with where I'm at, look at the positives of where I'm at [current workplace isn't toxic, at least], and B.) put together an actual plan with how to get into a position I'll be happier in, in the future. Felt like I'd been on auto-pilot for YEARS and I'm finally feeling like life is a bit more manageable. Thanks for reading if you do, and again, I hope all is well for you lately!

I like this channel, but I hate the expression “fullest potential”. It is such a stupid and annoying way to say that you should work on yourself/your skills etc. No one ever meets their fullest potential, in this case it really is about the journey, and not destination.

I randomly came across a vid literally looking for financial tips and ended up discovering some emotional/mental issues I was never able to articulate. So thank you!! 😭 Literally the happiest and greatest discovery for me was realizing I'm actually supposed to be a powerhouse, not someone trying to force happiness and telling themselves they met their capacity. Anyway, this is another vid kicking my butt lol

Do you not think that the fact that your small business is essentially an entirely online platform with minimal overhead compared to a company that actually produces a good is part of the reason you didn't need a ton of capital?

    • @supernova622
      @supernova622 4 года назад +1

I don't think anyone would claim that you don't need a ton of capital to start *any* business, but you don't need a ton to start *a* business. if you don't have access to a ton of capital and want to start a business, focus on something that has really low overhead

Chelsea, it is so nice to see you back! I love your videos! Can you please make something about financing products for immigrants (I mean non-permanent residents)? My husband has DACA and that makes mortgages unavailable to us. Technically many banks "support DACA," but practically they always find a way to refuse the mortgage for bogus reasons. The last one we got preaproved for, send us a refusal letter with "no appraiser available in your area" after few days post preaproval:)) Some people just hang up half way when we mentioned DACa :)But we got used to it. When you search online, the Google tells you that DACA can can get mortgage, but it is almost impossible to find a bank that explicitly states that "we will give you mortgage" and follows through with it.
By the way, since you mentioned that you are from NC, greetings from the Outer Banks!

Saying "no" and picking a few focuses at work is easier said than done. My project has had repetitive alignment issues and, as a result, the multiple changes to priorities means I have different people with different understandings on what the priorities are scheduling meetings with me back to back. And it's hard to argue with the meeting creator that they have the 2nd to last priority list when I'm not certain of that and/or I'm too busy to have that exchange instead of just humoring them. Or maybe the priority list I got is the latest, but it isn't "public yet". It's a shitshow

RE #5- spreading your knowledge out- I have found a few times in my career that doing that actually made me better at the single skills that I was a "specialist" in. Spreading your knowledge out very much helps you gain perspective and additional knowledge in how your specialty fits into the whole scheme of things. Which, IMHO, make you better at that skill, too.

Thank you for the great advice!
I do have a question regarding starting salary:
How do I approach asking for a higher starting salary pay when I already agreed to the low start pay. (I am on probation for the next 6 months but when I asked about possible annual merit increase, my evaluation would be based on my numbers and if they’re good I can possibly see a .05 increase - but it won’t even be close to the start pay I asked for).
I feel qualified enough/almost over qualified for the position. And a coworker that has been there 16 yrs agreed that it’s really low.
During the hiring process, HR came back to me and did not agree to the pay I asked for. They basically said the differential pay would cover the amount I’m asking for, even though it still falls short.
I’m not sure if you’ve addressed this issue before. I would appreciate any advice on this. Thank you!
