Stronghold Crusader is 2D and has hand drawn and carefully animated sprites, On stronghold 2 the developers wanted to make it 3D where it is a bit harder to focus on the tiny details on character models.
Yeah, i was thinking about this myself and i think it is because the two games were animated in different ways. Stronghold 2 is completely 3D whereas crusader is quasi 2D if you look closely. Note how in crusader you can only view the world in 4 rigid angles whereas in stronghold 2 you can freely rotate the camera.
the little hero unit looks like a complete bad ass, standing still with sword placed firmly in the ground while the arrows overhead decimate the enemies army, till the end, when he just strolls by casually as they try and hack at him.
@GeneralBanana62 Stronghold 3 is actually playable now. They came out with a bunch of new patches that fix bugs and such. I think the game is great, it doesn't really matter that it's missing some things that the other games had.
yes that is true. Exept that you can have huge amounts of soldiers that die and die and die all form one castle but somehow you always have more people to replace them
Anyone knows how to trade with and command the AI allies? I found their sound file to it, but in the game I only heard them to ask you helping attacking an enemy. In Crusader it was all clear&nice, but here, there isn't even a talking head when they taunt you. It's sad, cause the story and the new adds could have beat the earlier Strongholds if the creators aren't inattentive. But back to my question: there is any ally options?

What I always do when defending this castle is: Take all non-Archers, non-Crossbowman, and bring them to protect the King. Then I take all of the archers and crossbowman who are in pointless positions and scatter them around between the main castle, the front walls and the ground, allowing me to weaken the attacking troops as they get in there. My style is to use individuals or small groups in strategic positions.

That is because the game mixes military strategy and tactics in the wrong way. The world map is where the strategic actions took place, however to progress you must defeat the enemy in mostly tactical battles (though it is possible to win by diplomacy or outmanouvering). Now if you build a game about military tactics, the concept of having numbers as indicators of combat (rather than command skill) makes it primitive. It belongs to games where tactical battles are absent, like Hearts of Iron 3.
Maybe it is just me, but I always thought, that people are supposed to keep the enemy outside the castle walls, not to let it in and kill it in front of the citadel :) But of course ... it is just a game, no need to be real :)
i remember in this game my city is always drowned in shit, since the game was a bugged shit, the shit collectors stopped collecting the shit from streets after some time. But in crusader there wasn't such problem.
I know it doesn't have much to do with it, but I love Men of War, is such a great game....mount and blade is awesome too, Knights of Honor, Europa Universallis, HOI, these are all great games, SH: Crusader too, this one, I don't seem to care much, I've played it, but just thought it was shit, those infinite torrents of arrows seem much less fake in the crusader games rather than in this one just makes towers look like some kind of arrow waterfall or maybe an arrow rainbow..very depressing sight.
@DoomGrip98 when u played the german version of this game and then watched english SH2 videos matthew steel's voice sounds way too deep, he sounds like an old man in the english version ^^

I feel like in strong hold 2 the Trebuchae/Catapult, I don't believe that the right word but I think their over powered, they take down walls way too easy, on Empire Earth 2 it took at least over a minuet, on here it takes it down in like 10 seconds with 3 Catapults? I say their overpowered.

That is why I tested the fire arrows in vanilla. With 6000 archers, against 10 small elephants. They killed none. One of them got burned a little bit (blackened texture), but eventually didn't die. How do you explain that?
Stronghold Crusader 2 is coming! Crusader was best in my opinion, it had most 'features' that were enjoyable. Stronghold 2 was sometimes a tedious exercise of a potty cleaner and rat catcher. How peasants dare to drop dung in my castle compound?!
Well, there's the 3d aspect which is ok, there is a different economy which i prefer, kingmaker mode which is great. The campaign is the downside to this game but the multiplayer should make up for it.

It feels really weird, but when i saw the inside of the stronghold, it pretty much reminded me of the sims.

Even after so many years I still think the game is kinda broken because of unlimited archer stacking on towers.

They're very efficient in killing mass groups of enemies before they even reach your Lord.

Right now, the only thing I dont like about 2 is that army units still fold into themselves whenever combat starts. It gets annoying after a while.

It's a great game. I love siege mode, except I always fail at the siege part of it and end up defending...

@PiggyKlinsmen this game is quite old. The graphics wont get much better, try the total war series, i havent played that one (total war) though
But it's still a great game isn't it :P And stronghold has a morepersonal village building :3 but not as great battles ofcourse as total war

When devs. change their games from 2D to 3D, then their first games usually look very bad.
