Great song!...however...I prefer Great Big Sea version...Love Irish folk music of any kind...Especially Darby O' Gill...that being said...Great Big Sea offers a more modern approach to it...=)
The version that I listen to normally doesn't have the last verse about Paddy being a sonofabitch, and so it is a very different song. I actually think that it detracts from the song, as without that verse this seems more like a song about having a funeral for a friend the way he would have wanted it, with mirth and no small amount of drinking.
+Zaq Swanson The last verse was written by Scott Messer, the lead singer of Darby O'Gill. He writes verses/adaptations to a lot of traditional songs. I like this one better! Kind of shows that everyone could even enjoy the funeral of someone nobody liked! As long as liquor was involved, at least!
Thank you, William Henderson, for posting this album, I am loving it!! Appreciate it so much!!
Darby O'Gill is the man!
Thanks for the upload!
I miss going out to see Scott and the boys. I'm out of the country for a bit but I'll try to look them up when I'm back
This song is so hilarious. XD
Great song this must have given me good luck because when I saw it it had 999 likes so I was lucky number 1,000

+Zaq Swanson tbh i don't think so, especially since there's lines all throughout the song that imply no-one liked him
This is a funny drinking song... Not meant 4 a Funeral tribute. Unless you're Irish... Then all boundaries r negated!
Shell Trek this will be at my funeral
I always assumed it was ironic. Like, how sometimes you'll call your friends "bitch" or "fucker" or whatever.
