    Thanks for this video! My orchestra performed the Capriol Suite a little over a year ago...your video explained much and it all makes sense now! Greetings from across the pond! And by the way your English accent was just about right for Eton I think! And I know that it has been requested before but I would love to see a video on Thomas Tallis! Please please please!

    Another fantastic biography of a very odd composer. Just for info, the London Hotel you mention he was born in was The Savoy. I worked there for many years!!!

    This was the second video I've seen by you. I subscribed on the first. It has to be said, I have never heard of Peter Warlock, but now, not only have I heard of him, I know more about him than I do some immediate family. Excellent video and I look forward to more.

    Thank you for yet another interesting and packed video. I am pleased you mentioned the late beloved UK art critic Brian Sewell and congratulations on your attempt at a British accent! Thank heavens that we have music as THE international language! Blessings and peace from England

    It turned out that Peter Warlock was British art critic Brian Sewell's father.

  • @antonywingham9077
    @antonywingham9077 17 дней назад

    'Someone called Brian Sewell'' was the award wining art critic for the London Evening Standard , known for his television programmes, his acerbic dislike for a lot of contemporary art and the owner of the glove pulled from the bombed town of Guernica that was given to Picasso and used by him in his eponymous masterpiece:ruclips.net/video/4lBcmZt2uwA/видео.html Brian Sewell also wrote his autobiography in which he firmly believed that his father was Warlock found out only years later in the 1980's, and this is I think generally the view of most articles that are written about him.

    I love your videos. They're very engaging and informative. Could you do one on Sergei Prokofiev's use of harmony?

    • @ClassicalNerd
      @ClassicalNerd  6 лет назад +3

      Breaking down Prokofiev's harmony is an entire doctoral dissertation unto itself, but I will certainly do my best to talk about it in detail in the Prokofiev video that's currently in the request pool.

    Hi, A request if you’d be so kind...
    I had’t listened to Warlock for decades. He came to mind a couple of years ago when I heard Chris Thile’s “Stanley Ann” (Thanks for Listening, 2017). There’s something about the structure/style of Stanley Ann that is reminiscent, at least to me, of an early 20th century songwriter who might be Warlock, or a compatriot. I’m a listener not a musician so I can’t put my finger on it. Would you be willing to listen and tell me what you think? Cheers Robyn, Fremantle Western Australia

    May I request Joly Braga-Santos? Wrote fantastic romantic/modal music in his earlier and middle period, and some great more modern pieces later.

    Warlock was an odd character to say the least, yet people like him tend to turn out some great works. Great video, Thomas....but the English accent needs a bit of work. Watch a couple of old Trevor Howard films and you should have it nailed. (all in fun) I have recently restored two of the early 1920s /1930 78 rpm recordings by John Goss who had connections to Warlock. Goss performed my favourite version of "The Three Ravens".

    hey! i really enjoy your videos. i just found out about your channel and i am highly engaged by it. i was wondering if you could do a history of the Double Bass? (and it's baroque/mid-evil counterpart, the violone) since I am a bassist myself.

      That is a great idea for a video and it's now in my request pool; I'll eventually get around to making it, but it'll be a while (although the more unique requests there are for a given video, the more likely it'll be made). I'm still in the process of switching from a straight-up request queue to a request pool setup (the link is in the description).

    Please, make a video abought the top brazilian composers:
    Heitor Villa-Lobos
    José Maurício Nunes Garcia
    José Joaquim Emerico Lobo de Mesquita
    Carlos Gomes
    Camargo Guarnieri
    Francisco Mignone
    Radamés Gnattali

      Villa-Lobos is already in the request queue, and the others are now in the request pool.

      Hi.
      If you need help to get information abouth these composers i can help you. You will find a lot os information in english abouth Villa-Lobos, but less infomation in english abouth the others.
      José Maurício Nunes Garcia is one of the best brazilian composers of 18th and19th century, you can make a video abouth him after Villa-lobos's video. Nunes Gacia was influented by de classical composers of Europe, like Haydn and Mozart. One os the best pieces is the Requiem: ruclips.net/video/fbjGmWmEoxY/видео.html .
      PS: Others composers that you can add to the request is Guerra-Peixe and Alexandre Levy.

      I'll be sure to give you a heads-up when I start researching for those videos, but I've got a lot of requests and I'm moving to a system where I prioritize more commonly submitted requests. I'll eventually be able to tackle these composers, but it may be quite a while!
