- Today we had to make the hard decision and do whats best for our pets and farm. Our East Indies Drake, Dracula the duck decided to start bullying our white Call Duck Boo. Not mate her but plainly attack her unprovoked. We have to take into consideration her welfare and integrate him into our second free range flock. He will still have a great life back there, but we still feel bad and will miss him in our bantam chicken flock. Separating him from Salem our East Indies hen means when she starts laying eggs they won't be fertile as well, and I was looking forward to East Indie ducklings. Yoshi our snowy Call Duck was also moved to our other flock as he was trying to mate our bantam Mille Fleur d'Uccles chickens. Ducks can seriously injure chickens if they try to mate them. You can keep ducks with chickens. You must be careful when keeping drakes and chickens together and have enough duck hens for the drakes and be watching that their behavior doesn't change and start to go after your hens.

Wow! Nice setup in the back didn’t realize you had a larger piece of property there thought you guys lived in like a regular track home type neighborhood with neighbors lol really impressed. And wow in he’s a handsome man who knows maybe his hormones will calm down and you can reintroduce the two later on? Thanks so much, yeah we really wanted a second flock closer to our house for bantams, but then we added larger chickens to it as well because chicken math lol. He feels at home back there now with his big duck crew, think he will stay there for good as he is happy and thriving. Don’t want to disrupt his life again 😊

Thank you we had been trying to add East Indie ducks to our flock for the longest time. We were so lucky to get a breeding pair, such a shame to separate them, but everyone needs to be a model citizen and play nice in our bantam flock. If you want to act tough you get to be with the big boys free ranging Lol….And wouldn’t you know it, Salem the east indie hen laid her very first egg today! I’m going to incubate them and play guess the father lol

Haha thank you! He had been breeding Salem regularly and we were hoping she would lay us some eggs to throw in the incubator with our white call duck Boos eggs. We have baby fever and wanted to hatch their adorable ducklings! 😂❤️🦆 Spring hormones have all these boys acting up 😂

Oh no sorry! 😂 we love Dracula so much and are so sad to separate him from his girlfriend Salem. We were wanting their babies so badly! He just woke up one day and decided to not be a model citizen anymore lol it was very random and we can’t have that happening for our poor Boo

Pretty interesting how it all works! Luckily our other drakes are behaving nicely and being good to the flock. Dracula now is loving his life in his new duck flock :)
