- Welcome to the France 24 Debate. Tonight we are focusing on the elections on India where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is already claiming victory. A historic third successive term. Counting continues, but not that he is bothered.
Modi has been criticised throughout the election campaign for abusing state press and broadcast media - essentially using them as the mouthpiece for his campaign. There was also the case of the jailed opposition figures, the alleged suppression of the Muslim vote.

Some of the discutants are undoubtedly biased. Those, who have been jailed, were all not honest , but corrupt. This has also been confirmed by the biggest courts of the land. One thing that I didn't like was the inclusion of certain politicians, who hat been termed by BJP as corrupt as a tactical step. Many supporters of BJP were frustrated. 370 was never a good thing and was supposed to be a temporary measure. It was inhuman, undemocratic and unconstitutional.
This is a big win for the opposition. Modi had the entire media (both print and TV) under his control parroting his narratives, he has a 20-1 advantage in money power thanks to the oligarchs, and he had all the important constitutional bodies filled with his puppets. The opposition had no money (the main opposition party - Indian National Congress - had its bank accounts frozen at the start of the campaign season, many of the opposition leaders were arrested and locked up on frivolous charges and Modi created a definitive feeling among all smaller parties that if they didn't fall in line, there will be Govt bogus investigations leading to their arrest under clauses where you can have no bail and could be locked up for years. Considering the odds, the opposition put up a great fight. Had it not been for these constraints, they would certainly have won handsomely
Many forget the fact that Indian democracy still survives due to its Hindu ethos. Its about arguments and debates. See how democracy functions in islamic countries!

For the past 10 years Modi and Amit shah have been taking decisions by themselves. They are not known to work well with other politicians even within the bjp. So being forced to form a govt other parties is a huge blow. If other parties don't get their say they will walk away putting the NDA govt in crisis.

Hope whoever comes to power doesn't let the EVM issue rest until the next elections. The power of their vote must be with every single citizen of India. The sudden, unexplained power outages this election, leaving the strong rooms guarding the EVMs vulnerable to attack, the 19,000 EVMs that disappeared in 2019, the different machine numbers during the mock poll and during the actual voting, people's movements severely curtailed by the police, hackable and manipulatable EVMs... should all be investigated. #BringBacktheBallot

I understand the disappointment. It is akin to the student who wants 100% but gets 90% and feels sad despite topping the university exams.
But remember - in our worst case scenario we - just the BJP- are at 245+ & Congress in its best case scenario is only 99.
This is the third time the Congress hasn’t crossed 100 seats. The BJP alone by itself is more than the dotted INDI alliance (234). Our worst is twice their best performance.
The NDA at 291 and counting is comfortably poised to form its government yet again (3rd time) under leadership of PM @narendramodi ji
The BJP has also added and increased its vote share in 2024 as compared to 2019. Clearly this is a vote for pro-incumbency and not anti-incumbency.
The BJP roared in Odisha & Arunachal. We are forming governments there. Odisha victory in State Assembly is historic & so is the sweep in Loksabha in Odisha. Returning to power in Arunachal is historic.
Opening our account in Kerala despite the demographic situation is historic.
We grew substantially in Telangana. We have expanded in Tamil Nadu & were second place in 11 seats.
NDA has dominated in Andhra too. We will have a state government there.

Yes- we will feel that disappointment. We will introspect even in our victory even as Congress gloats in defeat.

We go harder and stronger against their plan to divide. We arise and awaken. We never surrender. We UNITE. We don’t leave anything to chance. We go to every house. We go to every street. Also, the NDA 292 will not lose majority even if TDP with 16 seats and JDU with 12 seats do not support. (292 minus 28 equals 264) but the PM has 8 back up seats from independent won candidates.

Indian masses reject opposition parties for the third time in a row. Main opposition party Congress gets only 99 in 2024, 52 in 2019 & 44 in 2014, out of a total of 543 seats. Narendra Modi & his alliance parties get 294 seats in a parliament requiring 272 to form the government. All the opposition parties put together get only 234. PM Modi is the true leader of India.
