I had little doubt that Nat would pop up in this series. I have that 15-CD box of his recordings and there's not a phrase he plays without shape, poise and direction. His own Concerto - Khachaturian on crystal meth. And inevitably Friedberg for Op.14#2. Never made the connection with Schumann's Soldier's March, I clodhopped through that in my first year of lessons.
A good description of Nat's concerto, I agree. I greatly enjoy much of Khachaturian's work, but a few of them suggest he might occasionally have used questionable substances.
