She Was Prepared to End Her Life - Until God Saved Her: The Lord Said, 'Hold On. I'm Not Done Yet'

- "Jesus changed my life." That proclamation from Christian singer Katy Nichole is very much a statement about the performer's own life. That's why it should come as no surprise this is also the title of Nichole's new album - a series of anthems about hope.
The performer has been candid about her harrowing journey with scoliosis, a curvature of the spine she was first diagnosed with at the age of 5. It was through determination, hard work - and prayer - she journeyed through serious issues and complications. "I was diagnosed with congenital scoliosis, which is rare," she said. "That was kind of scary in the very beginning because doctors were like, 'She might not be able to walk, she might not be able to do the things that the other kids are doing. That didn't really stop me though."
Nichole said grit, determination, and an innate stubbornness helped her navigate her scoliosis. "God clearly made me stubborn and strong for a reason, because later on I was gonna need that strength in my life," she said. "I had back surgery when I was 15 to put metal rods and screws into my spine to straighten it out."
What should have been a routine procedure, though, ended up in a dire situation for Nichole, as she faced intense pain, depression, and anxiety - a situation that could have claimed her life. "[It] just kind of became almost lethal for me, and I came to a place where I said, 'God, I can't do this anymore. God, I don't wanna do this anymore,'" she said, explaining she nearly came to the end of herself. "[I] picked up a bottle of pills one day and said it would be that easy."
Nichole took the pills to the bathroom and said they "somehow fell on the floor and spilled everywhere." In that moment, she was snapped back into reality. "It was just like ... 'God is clearly telling me something here,'" she recalled. "It was in that moment for me that God said, 'Hold on. I'm not done yet.'" Listen to Nichole tell her incredible story.

When I was 11 years old, my doctor discovered that my spine was shaped like an “S”. My scoliosis journey began but God was with me all the way! I am 64 years old; I had 2 healthy boys, naturally, and today, my husband and I just celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary and God has blessed us with 2 wonderful daughters-in-love, 3 Beautiful granddaughters and 1 handsome, red-headed grandson! BTW, I am the worship leader at my church and we LOVE singing your songs! Hang in there-God’s PLAN is AMAZING as you follow HIS WILL🙌♥️

I love "God Is In This Story" b/c it's always resinated so deeply with me based on my life journey but now it seems my eyes have been opened once more by God & a message of hope received🙏🏼🙌🏼❤️💙💜 To God Be All The Glory! I'm 47 & have been diagnosed with Scoliosis since I was 13yrs old. I refused surgery for fear of what happened to Katy. So yes I'm now continuing to live with it & b/c I've been on disability for many years now I've been blessed to help raise & take care of my grandbabies instead of them going to a daycare they've been home with me. That makes it all worth it!🙌🏼❤️
In the past 3 years I know I've been receiving strength & healing by the Blood of the Lamb b/c even though my left hip sticks out, my ribs push on my lungs & I have multiple degenerative & bulging disc in my lower back....my pain level has gone from a 12 out of 10 to more like a 3 out of 10 most days, Praise God🙏🏼🙌🏼❤️ Sending lots of love, gratefulness & most of all prayers to you Katy! I have had scoliosis since I was 11 and a half, right when I entered puberty. We were very blessed that my Mother was led by God to the best surgeon west of the Mississippi, Dr. Theodore Waugh, whom I grew to be extremely thankful for, as an adult!!! My spine surgery took place at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in California, and was over 40 years ago! Dr. Waugh inserted a Harrington rod, which I still have in my back to this day. I was at CHOC for 16 days, then I had a body cast for 7 months. I spent the 7 months at home with my Mother and sisters, one of whom had the same surgery with the same doctor at the same place, 3 years earlier. She also developed scoliosis at the onset of puberty. (As if puberty wasn’t difficult, already!!) So, I spent the second half of my 6th grade year alone at home during the day, while my three sisters were at school and my Mother was at work. I read lots of books, painted, and taught myself how to bake! I enjoyed nature and apricots and plums in our back yard. My great Aunt June taught me how to crochet, so I crocheted Barbie clothes for my little sister. Soon, it was time for my cast to come off, August 9!!! I have had no pain from the surgery and I just don’t do extravagant things, like gymnastics, but I can do all every-day activities. I got to spend a month of summer with no cast before I started 7th grade, where I didn’t know anybody and had to learn how to make friends again. I spent grades 7 - 10 in Adaptive PE periods. (Earned the best total score in Archery!)
I went on to do most things that I wanted to do, except I learned in my 20s that I can’t move heavy boxes on moving day! I had a backache for three days from doing that back then. Ever since then, I tell people who are helping us move and looking at me questioningly while they’re lifting heavy boxes, “I look strong, but I’m not!” But the event that temporarily took away my strength was having triplets at 37 weeks gestation when I was in my early 40s! Fortunately, they were not my first babies, as I had had two other singleton babies previously, in my 20s! I had normal pregnancies, labors, and deliveries, except the triplets were delivered by c-section, which is normal in America. No matter how much you beg, perinatologists in the US just cannot wrap their heads around the thought of a natural delivery with triplets, and midwives aren’t allowed to assist you with triplets or more. At least that was my experience!
But, even though I have corrected scoliosis, I had no problem having children, because they’re not related bodily systems. One of my friends thinks I was able to carry triplets for 37 weeks (I could have even gone to 40 weeks, because I never went into labor; they just cut me open and yanked them out!) because I did high-impact “aerobics” and group exercise for 5 days per week for 25 years before I gave birth to my triplets! 😊
I often wish I had never had scoliosis and that I had a straight spine and didn’t have ribs curving concave on one side and convex on the other, but I am so thankful for Dr. Waugh, who studied to become an orthopedic surgeon and applied his knowledge in helping to make the lives of adolescent girls better!!! ❤ I will always love and appreciate him for saving my life, because that’s what it feels like he did!
(About 90% of individuals afflicted with scoliosis are girls.)

GOD has the ultimate healing power! Dr.s can tell you what they want, but they aren't the authority. Neither is science. I keep getting a feeling that you should try a brace, and let GOD do the rest! Dont listen to the dr.s tell you whats possible, or impossible!

Precautions were not taken for me from my caregivers as a child. So I also had a very high impact sport forced on me for 17 years with multiple whiplash and head injuries compounded upon my scoliosis. It's disturbing at best. However, I try to truck on, but some days are not pretty.❤️💔❤️ And trucking on does not happen. I love Jesus and wish it was different but it is not and was not throw in some good old horrible physical abuse on my neck region and upper back and well ending it all from excessive physical to points of nearly shaking can make you wonder about God sometimes:). Love sent!
