  • The return of the Bristol spring race on concrete was something fans have been clamoring for over the past 3 years. NASCAR and SMI delivered and in doing so the racing for the fans delivered as well. Continuing a terrific start to the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season for completely differing reasons than the other the degradation of the tires made for a spectacle on intrigue. This is why Bristol was great (and not a disaster)

Yes. They did. I agree with that right there, 2024 is so far a W year, even though it's the end of the line for the Chevrolet Camaro...
I've enjoyed this season so far as a life long NASCAR fan, a Ro-Racer, and a Sim Racer. I seriously think this is honestly going to be the best series moving forward however you look at NASCAR in anyway Gas, or Electric. Xfinity, or Trucks. 5 lug nuts, or 1 lug nut.
So far, I've gotten into NASCAR because, of a family friend, and a movie that is most loved by Gen Z NASCAR fans, being Disney Pixar Cars. Been to my first NASCAR race last year with Late Models, Modifieds, F4s, and Super Stocks on NASCAR Opening Night in Roseville, CA in the year 2023. And the second was an ARCA Menards Series West race. It was years later after my parents went to Sonoma.
NASCAR is gaining the popularity it needs, and man, I love this sport! Let's be God fearing, go race these stock cars, and kick some ass!!!!!!!!

I'm admittedly a casual NASCAR fan; this was the first race I've watched from beginning to end in years. Entertaining as heck with a great sprint to the finish between Hamlin and Truex through traffic. I used to watch more in the '90s and early 2000's before the stage era, when long-run strategy was actually part of the race.

We’re blurring lines here with liking the idea of the race accidentally becoming a drivers race and the disaster situation that occurred with the tires. The tires were going down to the cords for almost every single car. The winner of the race blew out a tire… Tire fall off is great, tire SHUT OFF isn’t.

I don’t want Goodyear or NASCAR to do a damn thing. This race was a ton of fun to watch - Don’t touch a thing. The race was fantastic, MUCH, MUCH better than the last 2 weeks at Vegas and Phx. The teams will figure this out and they will figure out how to get us to 80 laps on tires - I just hope NASCAR gives the teams a chance to figure this out, before anyone tries to "fix this"

It was like watching a race from the '90s. I loved every minute of it. It was a driver's race. You were completely correct about that if your car was not set up properly or if you over drove it or you blistered your tires and killed them. It was game over but if you managed your stuff throughout the day was patient and made the right moves at the right time you went to the front it's got a check go from this guy. 10 laps at Indy is basically the same distance as 50 laps at Bristol, so the comparison is pretty apt to be fair. Honestly even calling it a race is a stretch considering how much conservation was occurring. Tire wear is great, but if you are in survival mode half a lap after the green flies, then that is ridiculous. Same nonsense as gas saving at Daytona.

  • @Raptor99
    @Raptor99 2 месяца назад

personally. i see the race being saved by the tyres. As you stated, the situation gave the race comers and goers, and it was enjoyable. Didnt know what would happen, but i think this was a step too far.. Yeah the tyre wear was great, but when you had so many tyres blow out, thats a bit unsafe. Its all good to see tyre wear every week, but not when so many people have tyre faults. Another side note. If they could let the tyres last a bit more, 10-20 lap longer, so drivers could go even 15% harder so drivers are forced to push themselves compared to hang back just save. Like people and drivers have compared it to was the daytona fuel saving antics. But thats just me. It was a good race, ill admit but nascar and goodyear need to sortthings out a little and hopefully can help the tyres. But one other thing thats concerning, on the long runs and green flag stops. All the brake fires. Thats a disaster waiting to happen with a fire igniting in that part of the car.

I mean u could have lots of tire wear and lead it to have to manage tires in a race, but there’s fine line to tire management and having to manage the tires so they don’t shred to where the wires r showing, blistering, and blowing out is definitely uncalled for. One car having that issue is one thing, but the entire field having that issue just isn’t good. Which I can understand why people r comparing this race to the 2008 Brickyard 400, tire wise I’d agree but how both were handled is definitely not comparable. If anything I’d compare Bristol to the 2005 Coke 600 or even the 1988 Watkins Glen Cup race where the race was plagued with tires blistering the whole race and the finish made it pretty forgettable. And no I’m not blaming Goodyear on this, there was nothing they could do unless they all noticed it during practice, which doesn’t help when they’re wicked short. But the lack of rubber being laid down, ya had similar deal in the Truck race too. There was barely any rubber on track for them as well. Definitely a classic race was the Cup race though, definitely reminiscent of a Gen 4 race at Bristol which was very weird but nice to see, but to me at least the massive excessive tire wear made the race intolerable.

I saw someone say this wish Bristol would to back to being a driver skill based race after seeing this race on Sunday, I don’t know how tire management isn’t a driver skill in races but this race has proved one thing for sure, you can’t please them all and anyone who thinks this wasn’t old school racing is just insistent that Nascar will never be as good as it was in “the good ole days”. Racing evolves over time, but this weekends race reminded me some of classic Bristol races of the 90s, it also showed some really old school characteristics too (it’s been decades since a race had only 5 cars finish on the lead lap, but that was semi common back from the start of nascar to somewhere around 1965-70ish. This race was old school style and I still see comments about how they wish it was what it used to be.

in the moment I got heated and didn't like seeing my boy Blaney get banged up and sent to the back... in retrospect yeah this race was pretty good. Just too bad Hamlin won, if Keselowski ended his losing streak here it'd be perfect.

2008 Brickyard was the worst race I had ever seen , NASCAR was putting out the yellow every 10-12 laps the Whole race . At least at Bristol you got 40-50 or better ( depending on driver) .

This is the first chance I had to listen to a race all the way through and I am so glad I did. That race was absolute chaos and while even I was thinking it was bad when they were talking about the extra tire allotment, that ending was so much fun.

I was there and holy moly it was wild. Especially the end of stage 1 and the green flag stop cycle in stage 3. I think the resin mixed with the cold is the reason. I say bring it back in the fall

It was great but the blowing tires every lap was dumb anyone could just drive up and take the lead if they wanted it but it was good aside from stupid Bell and Joey hitting my guy that kinda made me salty all day

This race was absolutely incredible! Nobody knew who was going to lead at a certain amount of time. And at the end of the day, the best drivers rose up to the occasion and took advantage of the mistakes of the young guns. This is what Nascar needs, and quite frankly, unless something changes drastically, this will forever be the best short track race in the next gen era.

It was good because of the fact it wasnt a snooze fest like Phoenix. Im all for NASCAR purposely messing stuff up to make it interesting. Id rather a massive sh*t show than a boring single file race going green the whole damn time. I literally slept the whole Phoenix race

Hated The Outcome but no doubt Bristol needed this with all those lead changes and insane amounts of tire fall of but we want Horsepower

I was fortunate enough to be at Indy for the tire debacle and I was at Bristol this weekend. This weekends race wasn’t nearly as hard to watch from the stands as Indy was that year. All in all yesterday race was quite enjoyable, once you got past the 4 JGR cars in P1-4 for a lot of stage 3. Stages 1&2 were quite exciting.

I was sitting in between turn 1 and 2 for the race and I've never been covered in bits of rubber like that before at a NASCAR race. Great experience! Best race I've been to in person by a long shot!

If NASCAR didn't see that race yesterday and think "oh my god this is perfect" then I might as well give up on them. That was a super entertaining race. Maaaaaaybe give the tires 10% more life next time but beyond that THIS is the short track package, full stop.

F1 saw the tire wear in the 2010 Canadian GP and wanted that for every race, I don't think the extent of tire wear would be good every week but more tire wear at a reasonable level, and actually being able to rubber in the top groove, and yes this was nothing like the 2008 Brickyard 400.

I was a big nascar fan as a little kid in the early 2010s and my love for the sport faded for about 10 years. I got interested in it again from the hail melon and watched a bit last season. This season I have been a die hard fan and watched every race thanks to the documentary and it’s been incredible. The racing product on track has been incredible besides from phoenix. Loving nascar rn

Yeah the 2008 Brickyard 400 was awful, and the Food City 500 should NOT be compared to that abomination in any way.

I Loved it! My buddy who is a new casual race fan hated it. I think if you love old school short track racing you loved this. If you’re just a casual riding that Atlanta photo finish wave you probably didn’t appreciate how special that race was
