Is the straw treated with a fire retardant or just relying on the compartmentalization to prevent vertical flame spread?

A compacted straw bale is by itself very resistant to fire and delays the spread of flames, thus it does not need a treatment. In fact straw bale houses are at higher risk if the straw is in contact with water, than with fire. However during the construction process the fire risk is high due to leftover straws all over the place, you need to be careful with tools that create sparks.

Natürlich braucht man ein horizontales Brandschott. Es sei denn das die Dämmung rein mineralisch ist und deswegen als nicht brennbare eingestuft wird. Rockwool.
